Well they upgraded their offensive coaching staff for this season. It was necessary yet wondering if that was enough for a winning season. I always say it starts at the top.
How about our WR corp? We lost three of our top players when Coach Toler left - Hunter, Martin and Matthews. Hopefully, Merriweather and Grayes are healthy this year and can contribute more. Good news is that we held onto Endries, who looks to on is way to playing in the NFL.
I can't even really read this retrospective as it's too familiar and painful. I appreciate the effort, but it's still too fresh to me. Either all the changes on the offensive side of the ball make a big difference or Wilcox has got to be on a very hot seat.
Good perspective Nick and couldn’t agree more. The O line is the most critical to rebuild in my opinion. It’s not just the starting line but the depth, ie backups. Injuries will happen. Always does and the drop off has been very apparent and painful. We need to build the bench too.
Thank you for this dose of reality, Nick... Many, many questions remain as to whether the GB's can equal or better the 2024 6-6 regular season record. Sunshine pumpers take note: Cal was in the middle or towards the bottom of ALL the 2024 O stats in the ACC (a conf much weaker than the SEC, Big 10, and Big 12), plus we have a complete rebuild for the O line, receiving core (mostly), and QB. Thank God Ott and JET are returning in 2025, or the O would be a complete rebuild! My optimism is definitely tempered for 2025 at this point in time... Still, GO BEARS
Cal proved (again) the same thing the KC Chiefs demonstrated (again) yesterday, unit-wide problems with the o-line (for whatever cause) render almost everything else irrelevant. Or at least derail them.
It wasn't an outlier either, and so until proven otherwise, any thought about breaking thru from 6-7 to a 7-6 year, much less a Wilcoxian miracle of 8-5, will be viewed with considerable skepticism. Improvement certainly can't just be assumed anywhere either, least of all on the o-line.
Too bad, Fernando was a joy to watch, from either side of the field. He might have stayed had there been any hope for his physical wellbeing.

Good call out. Toler leaving is a big loss.
