Continuing the tradition of Mater Dei standouts committing to Cal (Nikko Remigio, Addison Ooms, and Malik McMorris) the 5’10” DB from SoCal holds offers from 13 programs, Arkansaw, Boise, Ole Miss, Oregon State, and San Diego State to name a few.

He is the 11th commit of the cycle and the first DB of the group. Another SoCal kid alongside Jaxon Moi, Justyn Martin, Nate Burrell, and Damonic Williams.

His Junior year tape from the 3 games 2020 season shows a decisive off-man corner who made his money in the slot. That’s where his change of direction, knowledge of the game, and decisiveness shined. His game most reminds me of Marcus Peters (Formerly of the Chiefs, Rams, and Ravens), his eyes are always focused on the QB and where their eyes are, which could make him prone to bite on hard double moves and be out of position but can also lead to many interceptions and PBUs due to being at the right place a split second faster.

Cameron Sidney 5‘11“ 170 Santa Ana Mater Dei Really impressed me and has to rank among the very best corners in Southern California. Good leaping ability, timing, anticipation and speed. A superior athlete and very productive. 3.3 GPA.@Cam_Sidney

This is what SG Bear has to add on Cam:

Mater Dei had an absolutely loaded secondary that featured #4 US ’22 recruit Domani Jackson (’22 5-star USC commit), Josh Hunter (’22 3-star SDSU Commit, League defensive MVP), Shoes Brinkley (’21 3-star 23 offers Delaware Commit), and Cam Sidney.

Cam only played three of Mater Dei’s five games as a junior but was still first-team all-league in the hyper-competitive Trinity League. Cam and company held its opponents to 11.4 points per game. Mater Dei held Orange Lutheran to eight yards passing, negative if one nets the interception yards. They held Servite’s Noah Fifita (’22 3-star Arizona commit) to 46% completion and 131 yards.  They held Santa Margarita’s Colt Fulton (’21 3-star Boise State commit) to 43% completion and 157 yards. They held St. John Bosco’s Katin Houser (’22 3-star Michigan State commit) to 47% completion 51 yards and 2 picks. JSerra didn’t record its full statistics for the game, but they only had five first downs in the game.

His sophomore video highlights show that he is a very good coverage cornerback, who blankets his receiver through very good footwork and reading of his receiver. He was often left on an island and did very well despite being at a significant size disadvantage.

I agree with Piotr that his junior video highlights show progression by being able to read the QB more and rely less on solely focusing on his receiver, break faster on the ball, and really make an effort to close distance after the break. In other words, he’s becoming a ball hawk. He seems fearless but still is at a physical disadvantage due to his size.  He seems to be a bit of a tweener and could play either NB or a small CB. He has a verified 4.60 forty-yard dash time, which means that he is fast enough – but not necessarily a burner.

Welcome to Strawberry Canyon!

OT: Why is it that Cal's SID can't have a mic for the reporters so that we can ACTUALLY hear the question being asked during these pressers? Is that too much to ask for? Especially given all the background noise in what appears to be a makeshift interview "tent". Really seems to be a low effort production on behalf of the SID.

Solidifying commitments from kids that come from great high school programs (De La Salle, Mater Dei) is YUGE. These kids are well coached, are used to working hard and expect to WIN!!
