My son was lucky enough to play in two post-season bowl games. As exciting as they are, there were times he just wanted to come home for Christmas instead of living in a hotel for a week or two. I totally get the players approach to moving past this whole thing.
Nick: Fantastic article and you are absolutely right; These young men and women sacrifice A LOT to keep alums like us entertained and connected to our alma mater. They deserve to get paid. It has always struck me as hypocritical that when I was a young graduate student, I received a monthly stipend to help support me and my work because what I was doing was going to add to the reputation and prestige of the university. Why is it supposedly different for athletes? We all know the answer to this question and this must change.
I agree. This article was a good reminder for someone like me tend to overlook. These athletes go through a lot to entertain us. I know they are doing it for themselves too, but they are exposed to so much criticism by fans who may be strangers to them. While everyone went through the same isolation and severe inconveniences during 2020, it must be more difficult for kids around 18-21 than someone like me who is in 30s.
Thanks to the players and staff. Best of luck to them and everyone else in getting back to their loves ones. May we soon close the chapter on this year and round the corner into a more hopeful 2021...
The 2020 team dealt with more than almost any team I can remember. They played short handed, on short notice, and were isolated from their friends and family. Despite that they fought the whole damn time. Proud as hell of this team. Fight for California!
See you and Twist and Rob and golden oso and everyone else in the Dwinelle Parking Lot in about a year?
Hear, hear. Thanks Cal Bear Football. The cardio helped paass the time during our collective house arrest.
