If Avinash did a deep dive into the composition of the “committee” and the “selection” process (it’s charitable to call it a process) he could knock it out of the park. Focusing on the “at large” selections, especially the so called “bubble” teams. It also makes no sense and is illogical that the only criteria for 30 teams is that they win their conference tournament at the end of the season. D1 Baseball website calls these “stolen” selections. There must be some other criteria created besides winning a 4-5 game tournament in a mediocre/average conference. Generally, there needs to be an investigation of the old boys network of this baseball selection committee. Avi has done this deep dive for football and basketball. Maybe it’s baseball’s turn….

Hopefully our athletic dept will file a formal protest….at least get this stupidity/corruption on the record. The “committee” needs to be disbanded and outsider/objective baseball individuals appointed. That would make a huge difference.

James Madison was 35-23 and beat nobody good all year: did not play in a Power 5 conference or any conference known to high level baseball

Yep.

Of the 1st 3 “out” only Cal was “out”. Georgia Tech and James Madison get in. What a farce. We sweep Oregon State during season (hosting a regional) and beat Arizona (hosting a regional) in PAC tournament and compile a 36-19 record but get rejected. Committee members are corrupt. Just like DC. Swamps everywhere.

The folks at D1 Baseball, with their three baseball pundits, FWIW, claiming a combined sixty years of tournament field prognostication experience, have Cal as one of the last four in. https://d1baseball.com/stories/2024-d1baseball-field-of-64-projections/

Aw crap, they’ve replaced the one I saw yesterday (which must have been the penultimate one) with the last edition in which they predict Cal to be among the Last Four Out.

UCLA and USC secretly colluded behind closed doors to bolt for the BIG 10 (so called). This killed a 40M/per school TV deal in the offing from ESPN and forced the hands of the remaining 10 schools. This sort of mercenary/greedy behavior would be expected of USC, but UCLA concealed their negotiations even from the UC Regents (who could have killed the deal after the fact but didn’t have the balls to do so). The break up would not have happened but for USC and UCLA.

Today I’m an Arizona Wildcat fan……Go Bears!

With USC losing tonight, I will be surprised if Cal doesn’t get an at large bid. I think four teams from the PAC will go.

ACC, SEC, and Big 10 Bias. It's been that way as long as I can remember.

There is no reasonable justification for Indiana and Florida getting in over Cal. This selection process is unadulterated BS.

Didn't get in this time, but maybe Cal will get that ACC bias next year! </side-eye chloe>

Absolute travesty! An example of concessions given programs from other conferences is that of the Florida Gators (from Florida’s SI outlet): “ Florida finished the season 28-27 overall and 13-17 in SEC play. Series wins over Georgia, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and LSU helped Florida get into the tournament. After starting the season as the No 4-ranked team in the country, an up-and-down regular season had Florida on the bubble heading into the tournament selection process Monday. But going 7-8 against five SEC teams hosting a regional was enough for the Gators to sneak in.”

Enuf for them to bribe their way in.

This is what D1Baseball had to say after Friday's result:

"There are no at-large changes in the latest iteration of the projections. Though California lost at the Pac-12 tournament, no team warranted moving that far up the ladder. The only team that hopped on and moved up the ladder was Georgia Southern, which is in the driver’s seat on one side of the bracket at the Sun Belt tournament. The Eagles are 2-0 at the Sun Belt tournament and are up to 55 in the RPI."

They say that Cal is on the bubble for getting into the tournament. They have won more games than a lot of teams across the country. If they don't get into the NCAA tournament, then they simply don't want Cal to make the tournament.

All the West Coast teams are punished in the RPI due to the Strength of Schedule because how they all beat up on one another. The top team in the West by RPI is UC Santa Barbara and their SOS is 83rd. Oregon State's SOS is 73rd. UC Irvine's SOS is 112nd. Cal's SOS is 117th. All of your SEC and even ACC teams have SOS in the top 50's. The midweek games against local teams, where volatile freshman pitchers are used, are impacting the computer rankings too much.

I was thinking the same thing. Your theory will be tested next season when we play in the A. CC and we're gonna see Florida, state and Clemson. And a lot of those other, so-called better schools.
