The most surprising part of this to me is that there were even fans there to see it.

For Christ’s sake, fire Knowlton.

Knowlton is such a loser, if only he had taken my recommendation ~ from over a year ago ~ and fired Fox and himself while he was at it.

I wish I could have used that excuse to pass some of my mid terms or finals while at Cal.

This is some third world-style propaganda. Herb Beneson, the long-time media relations guy, retired mercifully recently, so I’m guessing there was no common sense in the room to check Knowlton.

This is some serious, weak-a$$, Mack Brown level whining…I’m embarrassed to see that it was real.

Wish we could more media coverage of the state of things in the athletic department. Better, they begin to seek comment (pressure) from Christ’s office.

Four was just a rough estimate. Did not look at the schedule at all in coming up with that number. Could easily be less than four wins.

However, I disagree with the rest of your comments for the reasons I mentioned earlier. Let Fox get a full season to figure something out to improve his performance. I do think he has some talent on his squad, especially if and when Celestine returns. I think Lars is improving and playing like he did at the end of last season. Askew is Cal's best player and he is more than decent. Brown has improved from last season and Alajiki is fundamentally sound.

Not saying it's going to happen but Cal could surprise a few teams. We'll see. I'm sure I'lll hear from you if I am wrong. But that won't bother me a bit. We shouldn't change coaches mid-season regardless of the results.

Really just guessing but I think Knowlton will do the sensible thing and allow Fox the time to turn things around this season and get to get between four to six total wins for the entire season and, if he doesn't, fire Fox then to follow then estimated general anti-Fox sentiment (likely, but can't tell what it is outside of WFC -- maybe WFC can post something showing that sentiment).

I believe doing something else in the interim will not likely lead to relative increased success and also will lead to many calls that Fox should have a chance to finish the season as Cal''s head coach, as interim measures after his in season firing would not lead to any improvement in Cal's record this season. More importantly, anyone WFC and other Cal basketball commentators would want to lead Cal for the rest of the season after an in-season Fox firing would not be available to coach Cal then, an important factor.

Most likely most will not agree with me but to each his own. I enjoy debating issues such as this. Disagreement with me does not bother me.

Thanks for the correction. Was there an article bringing up the point that Cal could have tried, and very likely succeeded, in getting around the City of Berkeley practice rules so they could have played at Arizona. If so, why do you think an article not written in WFC or elsewhere (like the SF Chronicle) about that before or after the Arizona game, including the effort, or lack thereof, of the Cal athletic department to make a change in the practice locations. I realize that is not your responsibility to write; just asking for your guesstimate as to the lack of coverage on this issue. Would have been a bombshell of an article, especially if it had included a full list of other teams that made arrangement to get around normal local Covid practice restrictions, assuming they were applicable.

Hopefully this is the last of my questions. Thanks.

No comment would have been better. The losses just keep adding up.

Good commentary. I think the reality is though that Knowlton is going have to try very hard at least to come up with the money to buy Fox out by the end of the season barring a complete turnaround. I think the excuses are OK as long as they're just window-dressing. The recruiting just isn't there are it didn't help to lose Bradley. Sueing and others to the portal.

The sad thing is that plenty of Cal fans continue to buy into the excuses. Heck, how long has it taken many bloggers to finally admit that covid affected all 300+ D1 basketball teams equally? (I still read posters around the internet giving Cal a pass for covid.)

Of course that graphic is insulting, particularly to alums of the #1 public in the world, who generally have better than average critical thinking skills. What is obviously unsaid is that the bench is weaker than weak -- forget Next Man Up -- and that bench is all on Fox's recruiting, or lack thereof. So sure, we got injuries -- who doesn't? -- but we also have no depth and that is the responsibility of the HC not some nebulous virus.
