Cal center Matthew Cindric honored at Sugar Bowl as member of Allstate Good Works team
The California Golden Bear offensive lineman also officially declared for the NFL Draft.this past week.
Matthew Cindric didn’t have the tidiest farewell campaign with Cal, as an injury ended his season prematurely. But he still found ways to excel as only a Cal Bear could. On New Year’s Day he was in New Orleans, being honored as a member of the 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. More video here.
During his time at Cal, Cindric has been actively involved in various community service initiatives, showcasing his commitment to making a positive impact. One notable endeavor is the Golden Buddies Football Clinic (video here), an event he founded and dedicated numerous hours to. Held at California Memorial Stadium in July 2023, the inaugural clinic provided approximately 50 local students aged 6-13, both with and without intellectual disabilities, the opportunity to engage in football drills and interact with around 40 Cal football players.
Cindric also participated in the Cal Football Reading Challenge (video here), visiting local elementary schools to read to students and encouraging them to continue reading during the summer to combat learning loss. As the Student Director of Cal's Haas School of Business Student-Athlete Mentorship Program, he assisted fellow student-athletes in navigating the application process for the prestigious business school. Furthermore, Cindric volunteered at the Cal Athletics Leadership Showcase, delivering a Ted Talk-style speech after being nominated for demonstrating significant leadership in academics, sports, and life.
In addition, he co-founded the Upcycle Gear Drive, collecting and distributing 500 gently used items of gear, clothing, and equipment through a targeted drive with Cal student-athletes to meet specific community needs. Serving as the President of Cal Athletes In Action, Cindric engaged in worship and community service activities with fellow student-athletes, even participating in a community service trip to Croatia. Through these diverse initiatives, Cindric has demonstrated a well-rounded commitment to community service and leadership.
Cindric has gone on and declared for the NFL Draft.
Best of luck Matthew, and thanks for all you’ve done as a representative of the University of California!
Not only a good athlete, but a great citizen. We need more people like this in this world. Thanks for being a Bear!
Love that he still found ways to contribute even when he couldn't be on the field. Good luck to him in the draft!
