Cal Defensive Back Paco Austin on Pro Day and the Brotherhood Heading Into the Draft
The Cal Taker was locked in on showing scouts what he can do ahead of April.
Brent “Paco” Austin came away from Pro Day feeling good about his performance, even without his 40 time in hand yet.
“It was great. Being out there in front of the scouts, trying to run fast. I don’t know the time yet, but hopefully it was pretty fast. Showing off my ball skills. Last year I didn’t have any interceptions, so showing I can catch the ball.”
He posted a 31.5-inch vertical, with his broad jump a personal highlight.
“It should have been higher, but at the end of the day the broad jump was pretty good at 104.”
When asked what an NFL team would be getting if they selected him, Austin kept it straightforward.
“Always being physical, smart player, good human being. Ready to have fun.”
On his draft prospects, he kept it short and confident.
“We’ll see. I’m not sure. We’ll see. Yes sir, I think I’ll get drafted.”
Sharing the experience with fellow Cal DBs Dru Polidore and Hezekiah Masses has made the whole process more meaningful.
“That’s fun, man. We transferred in around the same time. Automatically bonded with them. Going to be my brothers for life. Just being out here and being able to do it with them, it’s a special feeling.”
