Cal Football 2022 Fall Camp: Notebook #9
A bit different
A bit of a different style of notebook. It was a pretty relaxed day of practice on Friday. Lots of walkthroughs and teach periods. The assumption would be that they are gearing up for another day of scrimmage periods on Saturday. The team got a visit from future Hall of Fame WR Larry Fitzgerald on Thursday night, and then got some time with puppies in training to be Guide Dogs for the Blind after practice on Friday.
I got some video and photos from the event I’ll post in the notebook following the scrimmage, it was a great event and an opportunity for the team to see another potential avenue to be a part of the community outreach in Berkeley.
More than a dozen Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) puppies-in-training and their volunteer puppy raisers will meet with coaches and student-athletes of the Cal football team on Friday, August 19, at 11 a.m., after practice to provide even the toughest of players with some irresistible inspiration, while also raising awareness for recruiting more volunteer GDB puppy raisers.
The outing, which is the first community initiative between Cal Athletics and GDB, is not only an uplifting way to end football practice, it is also another way to socialize puppies-in-training in diverse settings. This exposure helps them learn how to mitigate the challenges that visually impaired travelers and their guide dogs face when they go out in the world to live their daily lives.
Cal is hosting puppies and their volunteer raisers from several Northern California GDB puppy clubs to help raise awareness for GDB’s mission and to recruit much-needed Bay Area volunteers to become puppy raisers. GDB provides all its services for free to clients and receives no government funding. The organization relies solely on donor support. GDB prepares highly qualified guide dogs to empower individuals who are blind or visually impaired to move through the world more safely and confidently.

Instead of a regular notebook today, this will be more of a what to look for in the final open practice scrimmage of Fall Camp. I got this idea from Jesse Stewart of Cal Rivals. Thanks Jesse!! So let’s get into it.
