Those on YouTube TV, one word of caution to manage your expectations a bit:
YouTube TV seems to have a noticeable lag during the live stream. There’s an option to minimize the lag, but even then it’s just a slightly less lag.
Compared to Comcast and over the air antenna, the antenna is closest to live, Comcast has maybe 20-30 sec lag, and YouTube TV can be a minute or two lag sometimes.
I switched to YouTube TV earlier this year and noticed that lag for NFL and NBA games, which was frustrating given the ESPN app or other apps showed scores or plays noticeably before “live” on YouTube TV.
I watched some of the ACC PM show with Mark Packer and Taylor Tannebaum, for the first time. They said only a few words about TCU vs Furd, and nothing about Cal UC-Davis which not surprising. Seemed like a very casual show by and for very dedicated fans. Someone called in and explained how to properly wear a cowboy hat. Two fingers above your ear and two fingers about your brow.
I see Cal/Davis is going to be on ACC Network Extra. If that's part of cable, I haven't found it. Also on ESPN+, which I believe I'll get through my laptop.
You can stream espn+ on your tv- if your tv isn’t a smart tv, you can get a Roku (very easy interface) or other streaming device to connect to your tv & home WiFi.
Do we actually know that Comcast will broadcast the games in the Bay Area? They're in a carriage dispute with B1G Network, and at the present time, all live UO, UW, fUCLA and U$C games are blocked by Comcast, not just football.
All of them! The worst you'll get is something like the UC Davis game, which is streaming-only on ACCNx. Anyone who gets ACC Network should be able to view that online, via the ESPN app/website.
One thing to also look out for is the CW. In most large markets it shouldn't be a problem getting that channel, but in smaller markets there can be issues with a local CW affiliate not getting picked up on the popular streaming services like YouTube and Hulu. Make sure you can get it before signing up for a service.
For those still making up their minds on a provider, Sling package can access the ACCNX games straight from the Sling app, no need to toggle over to espn+ app. Not sure yet for the ACCNX games if can only join live version or joint at start, think the latter a likely option but could be wrong.
Last year I watched a lot of recorded games on delay. Usually no issues with seeing spoilers, with the exception of watching games that were still in progress. With YoutubeTV you can select if you want to watch from the beginning, last watch, or live, but sometimes when jumping back in it would default to the live stream and I'd catch a peak at the current score (which did save me from having to sit through a couple blowouts)
I guess I am okay with seeing results for watching mid-game. If we are winning, that's good, and if we are losing and still in game, I can watch from there, if we are getting blown out, I won't have to watch it.
It's on ESPN2, though since Auburn is the home team it's under the SEC's TV contract (which is also with ESPN). If we played on the road at a school without ESPN (the B1G, Mountain West, or Big 12 are possibilities), then you might see games on Fox or CBS or something else. That's not happening this football season, but it could happen later.
For us living in the Sierra foothills, we're s*** out of luck. We can only use DISH or DIRECTV and they carry ACC channel but not ACCNX. With no wifi or smart tv setup.
worst case you can bring phone/tablet to public wifi and stream it.
FWIW I have Dish and just watched some live soccer on ACCNX after logging into ESPN with Dish credentials. Hopefully it works just as well on Saturday.
I'm delighted to be done with P12N but am sad to learn my YouTube TV subscription cannot get ESPN+. I have subscribed separately to that service for $10.99 a month, but cannot view it through my YouTube streaming and it does not have DVR service. I sure as hell hope not many Cal games are on this back up system.
Thanks for putting this together for everyone. I went with YouTubeTV this year.
Wasnt happy with Fubo last year (I felt the UI was slow, unintuitive and frustrating), and had Sling for several seasons before that so wanted to try something new.
I've also had Fubo as I needed that for P12N and couldn't wait to get away from it. What a disaster of a streaming service. Their controls and DVR system is so poorly designed and hard to use. YouTubeTV is like a Porsche compared to that Yugo.
I can't comment on the YouTube TV UI just yet, but I liked that the base package has everything I need and is discounted for several months.. and Im assuming the search and features will be user friendly in the vein of regular YouTube..
I switched from Comcast/Xfinity to YouTube TV earlier this year, basically as soon as Pac-12 basketball season ended and I no longer needed Pac-12 Network (sorry, college baseball). I really like the YouTube interface, as it tends to recommend whatever sports are currently on right there on the home page, knowing that's what I'm primarily using it for.
The only thing I find a bit annoying is scrolling through the "Live TV" listings, which don't recall which channel you were on and just default to the top of the listings (local network channels) every time. If you wanted to scroll down to something lower it can take a while. But the search function works well so you can also find a channel or program that way.
The other downside to YouTube TV (Hulu too) is that in a lot of markets it doesn't carry the local regional sports networks (RSNs). In NorCal it's fine, as the NBC Sports RSNs are carried. But Bally Sports is in a lot of regions and they don't have an agreement with them. Spectrum Sports isn't on there either, nor are the former AT&T SportsNet channels. If you want a streamer that has all of those, you need DirecTV (a bit more expensive than YT or Hulu). I also know that in some cases (Bally) you can also pay for it as a separate a-la-carte service directly from them, or pay for something direct through the league (NBA or MLB) to watch your local teams.
Fubo really pissed me off. Both when trying to find a game initially (the search was trash), or wanting to go to the channel directly before the game starts, then whenever I wanted to switch back and forth between games it was so intuitive and slow I could never remember, or if you pressed the wrong button it would be slow to recover and get back, or it would get glitchy in general.
I looked around a bit on YouTubeTV after signing up the other day to confirm what I already had confirmed about it. Except, it was not patently clear to me upon seeing UCD-
Cal game exactly how that worked....e.g. there wasn't a click I could do that would bring up "game not available yet" like a false start. And when and where does the added $, if so, for viewing that come into play.
For the UCD game you need to log in at https://www.espn.com/watch/ and use your YouTube login. You'll be able to watch it there. (Or if you want it on your Smart TV or Roku or something, get the ESPN app and do the same.)

That appears to only be an issue with the B1G Network for now, not the ACC Network.
That said, all the more reason to dump Comcast and get YouTube TV (or Hulu Live TV).
How many of the Cal games are likely to be shown live?

I watched the UCDavis game on ESPN+ via Hulu. It took a little bit to figure this out.

For those who have watched DVR on youtube tv, is it possible to navigate to the recorded video without seeing any game results on that platform?
(Aside from doing your own part to shut off any exposure to the game)

Is the Cal-Auburn game also going to be on ACCN/ESPN?
It's on ESPN2, though since Auburn is the home team it's under the SEC's TV contract (which is also with ESPN). Good to know. Thank you
I think it’s on ESPN2.
Great. thank you

Wait, so internet is unavailable to you where you live? That's rough.
Can you get ESPN+?

Try going to ESPN.com/watch and see if YouTube TV is an option to authenticate?
FWIW, the ESPN+/ACCNx games should be available to replay there pretty quickly after they are done. They don't just disappear.
Yes, the ACC Network is replaying the Davis game at 10pm on 9/3 so it can be DVR'd.
Woo hoo
The CW has sure come a long way hasn’t it?
Thanks for putting this together for everyone. I went with YouTubeTV this year.

Relieved to hear it wasn't just me!
same as my experience.....first was Sling for 2 or 3 years, then FUBO last year...now YouTubeTV for this season.
I can't comment on the YouTube TV UI just yet, but I liked that the base package has everything I need and is discounted for several months.. and Im assuming the search and features will be user friendly in the vein of regular YouTube..

The one major upside of YouTube TV is multiview. Four CFB games at once!
Thanks, that's good info
Fubo really pissed me off. Yep, it's coming all back to me now.
I looked around a bit on YouTubeTV after signing up the other day to confirm what I already had confirmed about it. Except, it was not patently clear to me upon seeing UCD-

Thanks. Heh, duh, I only read that fact a handful of times previously on B.I. and maybe this site and it went blank on me.
This should settle this arcane matter once and for all.
For those of us living on the East Coast this is like a night and day improvement.
And fewer 10:30/11 PM starts....
For road games certainly. For home games the jury is still out. ESPN might want to use us a lot to fill its late-night window.
