Great to hear the Ashton Stredick call out. I've been rooting for him to be that overlooked gem, and envisioned him bulking up a little and becoming a Justin Forsett type of running back ever since AT and co. flipped him from Princeton.

I’m impressed. But I also just don’t see him breaking into the rotation this fall. that room is so deep.

All good news!!

Is there any evidence the running backs have gotten faster via timed 40's, or is this an eyeball test from the view on the sideline? Except for one break-away run during the Stanford game, the running game was a disappointment during last year's shortened season. And I think there is a difference between quickness off the snap and speed in the open field. when I think of quick, I think of those Oregon running backs over the years. Do they look both quicker and faster?

Speeds also relative. I don’t think we have any Heisman candidate type of talent at RB yet. Who knows some can develop. But they go through offseason work outs based on their needs. Under Becton they had two groups. Speed and power. Dunno if they’ve maintained those types of offseason separations but all in all it isn’t just coach speak when coaches say they look faster too. all of us watching at practice agree they’ve gotten faster. We’ll know for sure when we have a scrimmage practice. But for now I stand by what I wrote in that all of the RBs are noticeably faster and explosive.

Last year Moore was caught from behind after a 50-something yard run, which was a bit surprising. Don't really see any elite speed from our backs. Maybe Stredick. I watched his hudl tape and he looked like a breakaway threat but of course that was against high school competition. According to the site he runs a 4.48 40.

Agreed Moore is not a burner. He didn't look fast on his high school tape. But if he can churn out 100 ypg, he's fast enough. He was definitely a surprise to me with his production.

He also rushed for 3100 yards in his senior year of high school! And in the Houston area. Nuts that Baylor was his only other P5 offer. As a high end 3 star with tremendous upside, you'd think that most of the Big 12 outside OU/UT would've offered..

They may "look" faster simply by the virtue of knowing the playbook better and knowing exactly where the holes will open up for them. It is not too surprising that everyone on the O is playing / looking faster. Or heck they may indeed be .01 to .04 faster on the clock.

The only game we had at least 4 of our starting O-linemen play was against the Ducks. That's why our run game sucked last year.

"I don’t see Chase being able to overthrow him even if he wanted to."

That's always nice. Best part of the season, before anyone's hopes and dreams are crushed!

I mean to be real of course he could over throw him but his window to throw to him or Keleki is immense considering their size. As long as he doesn’t under throw. They’ll get a hand on it.

Did you happen to notice if Cindric and Craig were suited up today or are they still on the sideline?

Cindric was back. Craig should be back very shortly. Haven’t gotten any update that it’s long term so expecting it to be just a small knock. Hunter talked about how everyone has some little knocks as they are just starting camp and everyone was raring to go. They’ll be fine.

Craig is going to lose his starting spot if he keeps getting injured; maybe that's for the best.

Eh. Never wish injury on a player for talent reasons. Gets better and he’s able. He’ll play. And should. Dude is talented. Just unlucky in not getting a full offseason and season in a consecutive year.

I never wish injury on anyone as well. Will Craig was a highly regarded 4 star recruit. He is going into his fourth year, and according to his bio on the CAL roster, he has played in 10 games and started 1. He has missed tons of practice time with injuries. (Your game does not get better in this situation). That's not a lot of experience for a fourth year player. With his history of injury can we count on him to last a season? I want the best players on the field and if he's one of them, so be it. I'd love to see film on him. If he is not clearly significantly better than the next guy up at his position of weak side tackle, then as a coach I'd be looking for someone more durable and consistent who will be able to practice consistently.

10 games huh? I had heard it was 4, so last I checked 10 is better than 4. YUGE talent w/ great upside but as you said, you need to be on the field. Hopefully this will be the year, we need him. Damn shame Mello went to the transfer portal, I was hoping he would have a change of heart. Luks like Cal could use / need him atm.

He's a Sophomore. Played a lot as a True Freshmen..tire his ACL his Sophomore year...medical redshirt and covid season.... he's a Sophomore..Will Craig Football wise he has 3 years left to play. Cal needs him.. hopefully he Is healthy to play this Year

Due to his incessant injury problems, maybe he’s more suited to the role of very-talented-backup-when-he’s-healthy rather the rock-that-we-will-build-our-line-around role. The guard position is easier to swap people in and out, but the tackle and center need more consistency. That’s why it’s a good thing that when Saffell realized he couldn’t carry on, he called it when he did so that they could develop the new starter all through fall camp. I admire Craig for hanging in there through so many injuries and hope he can finally have the breakout year he’s been working toward for so long.

Excited about Lu-Magia. I got the impression he flew a bit under the radar in recruiting hype, despite the accolades he received, so I’m glad he’s showing his stuff in camp.
