Justin Baker, Touchdown Maker is going to be one of my favorite Bears. I can just feel it.

Glad to see that Garbers had a pretty good day, but it would be nice to have a higher completion percentage than 12-22. Also sounds like we are getting the young running backs a good amount of reps.

Stredick rushing for 75 yards is a positive. He has a self-reported 40 time of 4.48 and had almost 500 yards rushing in a Texas playoff game in HS.

wow I somehow missed reading about him during his recruiting class despite being listed as a 4 star by Rivals. some good top end speed and really good vision and balance in those highlights. and must be pretty durable having amassed all those carries and stats in his hs career.

ok, a little google action and realize now that he was a walk-on.. wonder why he wasn't more highly recruited (aside from a scholly offer from Baylor).. maybe his size, or level competition (which would be weird being in the Houston area)? Hope he goes on to make these other schools sorry! Nice job by Aristotle and co. identifying him and signing him over Baylor despite their offer.

I would venture to say at this point of Spring Ball while install is still happening, the completion rate will be lower than when they have time to run more reps and game condition situations. Just like any college team with a new offensive system, I would expect ours to come out ok at the beginning of the season and improve over the season. When you are in your first 'real' year of a new offensive system as complicated as Musgrave's it takes time to learn it. Garber's is definitely at a disadvantage. He has game experience that now of our other QB's have, but not much time in Musgrave's system. I would expect the young guys in the QB room to end up performing better initially when they first get real game playing time as they will have had a lot more time in the system than Chase.

I agree overall but also dont really understand what you mean by Garbers specifically being at a disadvantage, in context of the backups who are apparently outperforming him so far this Spring. (If they really are, I dont know) There are obviously a lot of variables when comparing their performances (namely, what defensive starters are on the field when each qb is playing) and it's a small sample size, BUT, I wouldn't rule out a QB controversy brewing early in the Fall if Garbers isn't sharp in those games. He appeared to regress last year on his fundamentals, whether or not that had to do with being uncomfortable in the new system. Anecdotally, it felt like there were a lot of situations where he had open receivers but hesitated, or he would take off without going through his progressions or seeing the open check down. In any event, that's why competition exists and Wilcox doesn't seem to be the type of coach to favor an entrenched starter over the player who "gives you the best chance to win."

Yes, but we had one week of Spring Training in 2020, Covid fall camp and a fucked up season where a lot of players were not playing because of Covid. When you are looking for practice time, quality reps and real game experience in a new and complicated system, 2020 was basically a throwaway.

Yes, 4 games, not a season. with very little install time in Spring and Fall and without his first team surrounding him during those four games. It's worth a little.
