OK then, Garbers is the starter. One doesn't get a warm and fuzzy about the staff's decision but if they believe he gives us the best chance to win welp they should know given they are at practice every day. With Garbers we know what we are getting and I doubt we will be surprised by his play specifically. His supporting cast: OL, WR, RB, TE appear to be improved and have some depth. OL is still a question mark but even the slightest improvement should help Garbers.

I still would prefer if the competition was "open" through summer camp but it appears the coaches made up their mind early. Sheds some light on why Casey departed just 5 days into camp. If the competition is shut down why stick around.

Saturday should be interesting viewing, DVR is set.

I know we have this “debate” all the time, but if someone surpasses Chase in fall camp (whether Chase regresses or someone else somehow improves over the summer, Kai Milner is better than expected and better than Chase) I’m sure the depth chart would change. I can’t believe it’s not always an open competition, but at this point it looks like Chase has an insurmountable advantage over the rest of the team.

Supporting cast especially OL and scheme will be Garbers' allies. I don't think I will be able to take another year of Cal's offense in the cellar of the PAC 12. Just can't take any more!! I'm a YUGE Wilcox fan but not sure if peeps will tolerate more shit offense....it's just, well it's just offensive!!

Really sounds like Jermaine Terry will be ready to compete for PT this year, going to be exciting to have him out there as a change-up from our experienced seniors.

“The more turns he gets at the concepts, the more comfortable he is, the more you can throw it early.”

This is great to see. It always seemed like Garbers was late with his throws or afraid to pull the trigger.

Last open practice I went to ~ over a year ago ~ the only QB who threw it on time was Rowell. Garbers was one of the worst. This is a difficult habit to train out of even with multiple "turns" and especially when the heat is on. So good thing Garbers' best attribute is running the ball.

Great detail. Thanks. Zach Johnson is an unknown to us really, but beating our Brasch says a lot. We have a solid group of 2-5 going into Fall.

Can't believe Spring football is almost over. Thanks for the write-up.
