Cal lands UCLA transfer defensive lineman Odua Isibor in the portal, beating out Auburn
The Bears get even stronger upfront.
The California Golden Bears had a very strong spring practice upfront with their defensive line, but you can always have more talent. Former UCLA edge Odua Isibor entered the portal several weeks ago and decided Cal was the best place to take his talents.
Isibor had also recently visited Auburn.
Isibor has been at UCLA since 2017, and was one of the last Bruins on the roster left from the Jim Mora era. In his career with the Bruins, he logged 57 tackles, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Last year he started two games and participated in 12 overall, managing 14 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.
This is the second big in-conference transfer the Bears were lucky enough to land upfront. Xavier Carlton also transferred from Utah, saw plenty of spring ball action and figures to also play a role in a large edge rotation with Ethan Saunders, BRETT JOHNSON, Jaedon Roberts, Akili Calhoun and Derek Wilkins.
This is the third commit in the past week for the Bears, with Cal landing crucial offensive line portal transfers in Arizona State guard Spencer Lowell and Montana State guard/tackle T.J. Session.
Welcome to Cal Odua! Go Bears!
Loading up, hopefully, on talented athletes who will only improve what is expected by most prognosticators to be an elite defense.
Go Bears! This is a big get. I'm so psyched about our defense as the line is always the essence of it. If we can stop the run and force the pass, we will pick off plenty of balls and teams will suffer. Watch how any of the top teams win, and it's in the lines.
