Cal linebacker Teddye Buchanan impresses at Shrine Bowl week
Could the Cal impact transfer defender be on his way to rising up NFL Draft boards?
Linebacker Teddye Buchanan made an incredible impact this season for the California Golden Bears, filling up a huge hole at inside linebacker and attacking the position with intent and intensity.
He took that intensity with him to the Shrine Bowl, where he impressed many in the NFL media
Here are some of the clippings of his best work from Shrine Bowl week.
Video via Blaine Grisak of Turf Show Times (Rams SB Nation site):
Initial play made by the NT, but Buchanan sees the gap and then shoots it to make the tackle. A cover specialist, but nice play in the run game here.
More video from Grisak, featuring Buchanan’s one-on-one drills.
One of his best practice reps came from video via Trevor Sikeema of Pro Football Focus:
Watch him flip the hips and take off down the field to cover the deep cross Former track (jumps) standout in HS. This dude can move.
Here he is breaking up a pass with his old Cal buddy Craig Woodson in drilling block shedding and tackling (videos via Thomas Christopher of the League Winners)
Buchanan has flown under the radar so far, but it feels as if the East West Shrine Bowl was his first introduction to the rest of the nation.
The Inside LB is the most important player on stopping the run game in any defense. He was a great find for Cal's D last year. He and Cade Uluave were the two best together Cal's had in a long time.
