The Cal game day live thread is presented by Chancer
The California Golden Bears are well on their way to their first win of the 2021 college football season. The Golden Bears lead the Football Championship Subdivision Sacramento State, 21-6, at halftime.
California quarterback Chase Garbers has thrown for 266 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
The redshirt senior from Newport Beach, Calif., threw a 45-yard touchdown to give the Golden Bears a 21-6 lead with 4:01 remaining in the second quarter after a successful Dario Longhetto point-after attempt.
Garbers also had a stellar first quarter.
At the end of California's first two possessions, the quarterback went a perfect 10/10 for 118 yards thrown to secure a 14-6 lead for the home team. Garbers completed the first half with 16 completions on 20 attempts.
The Golden Bears’ first two touchdowns were on the ground: two separate four-yard rushing touchdowns from sophomore running back Damien Moore.
Moore completes the first half of the game with 18 rushing yards on five attempts and two touchdowns.
Sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Hunter leads the Golden Bears in receiving yards with 70 yards and one touchdown.
California senior Nikko Remigio did not play in the game because of an upper-body injury.
Sacramento State’s only score in the first half was on its second drive.
Junior quarterback Asher O’Hara brought the ball into the endzone for the Hornets with a 7-yard rushing touchdown. After his score, O’Hara led the Hornets in rushing yards with 24 yards, including the score, on four rushing attempts.
The Hornets attempted a two-point conversion after O’Hara’s score in the first quarter and failed.
Sacramento State’s placekicker Kyle Sentkowski missed two field-goal attempts in the first half of the game.
Not sure what I liked more, the Chase Garbers TD run or the Collin Moore flop requiring resuscitation from a teammate.
It's that guy's fault for wearing red; it may as well have been a bullseye.
