Will be sending two unsolicited suggestions regarding rules revising Cal's league structure, though I don't know who to send them to within WFC so that it can determine as to where to publish my ideas and/or bring them to the attention of the Cal athletic department.
1. I think joining the ACC has many problems related to that decisi, primarily because of the excess travel it creates for west coast teams. A better structure would be to revise the Pac 12 to a) add the following teams -- 1) Las Vegas (three pro teams will be there within two years, making it the location for pro teams and making it the normal location for playoffs, thus a perfect location for hosting sports events, plus it is a growing populace, 2) San Diego State -- a new stadium and a recent excellence in footballl (though not last season) and basketball, 3) Fresno State (excellent footbal team - have not checked out their basketball program), 3) Hawaii - decent football history and getting a new conference in there will benefit Cal recruiting of more Hawaiian talent, maybe the best in the U,S, on a relative population basis which could be expanded if Cal put a full time person in there to recruit local football talent and as a springboard to recruit talent from Australia, New Zealand, the Polynesian islands, and Southeast Asia (recently haa a long conversation with someone working in the Phillipines who said that basketball is practically the #1 sport in that country), and would be a good reason for Cal fans to travel there on a vacation and also allow them to watch a Cal football and/or basketball game while there, and 4) Boise St., a consistently growing populace with a great football history with basketball also doing well, I believe.
Dropping the ACC will allow Cal students to avoid spending too much time on sports and traveling east. Having eight teams in the conference, all prior FBS schools, is enough and would allow more flexibility to play different schools in future years, either within the ACC or from other FBS conference.
Need to do some more research but I think the travel schedule for the football team going east is really screwed up. More on that later.
