The balanced scoring is optimistic. The other night it was Camden ... last night it was Dai Dai with Pippen, Bell and Dort all looking solid. Nice contributions coming off the bench too from Rytis and Dorsey. I like the looks of these guys. I'm feeling a better about our chances now than I was in the off-season.
Anybody hear/read the status on Semetri Carr. He came down at an awkward angle on the front of his foot (in the first game against CSB) and left limping. He was getting impressive early run for a frosh in the first game as a PG.
I just love the overall difference in style of play this year. Is this Madsen fitting the abilities of his team or a change in coaching philosophy, or both?
It's funny - I hated this game. Was just imagining us playing like this against the uber-talented teams we have coming up: KSU, #12 UCLA, #11 Louisville, #6 Duke, #25 UNC, Virginia. I was thinking it might be fun to get out & see the blue bloods in Haas in person, but have to measure that against the pain of most likely getting crushed... Hopefully, this game was as everyone described - a new team working things out. I would say that KSU would be a good measuring stick, but it's too early in the season, with essentially a new Golden Bear roster. Beating UCLA would be a huge surprise, but we'd better beat Utah who will most likely be in a down year, otherwise it could be a long year.
He seems to get the hard baskets but has been struggling with the easy ones. Hopefully, he settles in. Overall, I like his game, especially his ability to draw fouls.
I'm loving 26 for 31 from FT!
This.

I’ll take a win like this all day for Cal. Early season games can get weird, especially with a new team and trying to figure out their chemistry.

Yeah, with Campbell already ailing, the Bears really lacked backup guard minutes last night. Carr was in street clothes.

Madsen says this team shoots better than last year. Hopefully last night was just an off night.
Justin Pippen does a lot of things well. Not sure we want him taking 12 shots a night tho.
