Speaking of running backs, today my wife and I delivered some of her oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to our 70-year-old bachelor neighbor, Ron, for Christmas. While we were gabbing, Ron pulled out a 20+ year-old Fort Worth Star Telegram book, written by sportswriter extraordinaire Dan Jenkins, from a series highlighting stars of the 81-year-old Southwest Conference as it wound down and out of existence.
The book was a gift to Ron from his son, Ryan, who happened to meet and have lunch with the book’s subject at an old steakhouse in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Made 20 years ago to the day, nearly, the inscription reads, “Merry Xmas + Happy New Year to Ron. Doak Walker”
So, you sorta know someone who knows someone whose son got to meet the guy who won the Heisman as a junior and had the award for top running back named after him.
"Well, what I'm really proud of," Walker is quoted in the book as saying, "is that it isn't just an award they give some guy for gaining a lot of yards. It has to do with a lot of other things - academic standing, citizenship, leadership, sportsmanship - that are much more important."
Skyline guy - we need to win the East Bay/Bay Area - it’s not the richest recruiting grounds but it’s very fertile and we need to win our home first before extending into SoCal, Texas and further afield

Jahvid, Marshawn, Mixon, Najee, MJD, etc.
Major recruiter is really the most important requirement for that staff position. Nice.
Notch another win for the East Bay. Let's hope he can recruit some major RB talent for Cal...
Oaktown strong.
Like that he’s an East Bay native
