Cal tight end Jack Endries expected to enter the transfer portal
This could be a critical loss at a position of need for the California Golden Bears offense.
The California Golden Bears have a fire alarm. Tight end Jack Endries appears to be on the verge of entering the transfer portal.
Endries earned Freshman All-American honors in 2023, breaking out with 35 catches for 407 yards and two touchdowns in his first season. He backed it up in 2024 with an even greater year, grabbing 56 catches for 623 yards and two scores. That included two 10+ reception, 100+ yard performances against Pitt and NC State.
Off the field, Endries has also been one of the faces of the Summer Reading Challenge alongside Jaydn Ott to encourage young student literacy. He has been a sturdy golden bear on and off the field.
You’d have to guess that the incoming changes in NIL is a huge part of this shocking decision to make this move. The House Settlement is going to bring all NIL processes in-house this summer, so collectives have to use this money or lose it, meaning huge offers from Power programs are going out all over.
Next up on the depth chart would be Ben Marshall, Jeffrey Johnson (one catch last year), and Mason Mini (five catches with Idaho last year). If Endries were to leave, tight end would become a huge spring portal priority.
The good news is that there might be some wiggle room for the Bears to figure out this situation. According to this report, Endries has not officially entered the transfer portal, so it seems as if Cal will have some time to try and figure out a proper NIL number that could match or better any offers.
But it doesn’t look great right now.
It is a shame for us old guard college football fans. Now, it is all about the money. NIL has forever changed college sports.
The transfer portal is making college sports less fun. Every year we don't know who is coming or staying.
I'm almost to the point of not following college sports.
