Started Loudermilk, a Farrelly brothers dark comedy series from '17 - '20 (30 30-min eps) starring Ron Livingston. Set in Seattle, Livingston is a brooding, irascible former rock journalist that's been sober for 5 years and now works as a sobriety counselor. Chitwood family fave Brian Regan had a small role in ep 3...good stuff.
Multiple laughs in the first 3 episodes, along with some poignant, A-ha moments and some rather cringeworthy bits. But looking forward to watching some more.
I stumbled across this recently. Got 8 eps in. Enjoyable, but the guy faking it isn’t doing it for me. Anyway, it’s gone from Prime now, so not sure how to watch more.
While stretching after my run I was watching the ABC affiliate which is owned by Sinclair. It had a national story about the resignation of the Harvard president. Opining was a professor from Suffolk Community College and the group Campus Reform. Not sure Harvard is too worried about his opinions.
As a recent entrant to the sport, I still need to learn to go downhill. The bulk of my skiing has been backcountry day trips and backcountry camping. I crush it going uphill, but spend a lot of time falling when it is time to turn the skiis downill. I just need to spend more time on lifts to get better. As someone who works a regular weekday schedule, the biggest obstacle for me is spending so much money to spend time on a mountain with the crowds of weekend and holiday skiers.
Don't know where you live, Peetyjay. Nice thing about Boston is that you can take the metro (T) to the Blue Hills ski area on a weekday evening to get a ski lesson. I also found that ice skating lessons was good prep for downhill skiing.
i believe Peetyjay lives a stones throw from all the Tahoe resorts. i think the "problem" is that when there is decent snow, there are tons of people too.
Yes, this exactly. Two years ago my friend bought me a pass to Northstar and we spent 3 hours to get there. Normally the drive would take only 1 hour from our house. Honestly, I should get a pass to Boreal as it is closer and not nearly as crowded. I just need one season of good turns and I should be much improved, much more confident in the backcountry.
indeed, downhill skiing at a resort is absurdly expensive, especially if you dont have some sort of season pass.
i enjoy the ups as much as the downs these days but that is because i have spent so many years getting mediocrely-decent at the downhill part and it is nice to enjoy the soft snow on the way down.
The season pass (Epic for me and daughter) makes it work financially. Otherwise the day ticket costs are crazy. Locals are getting pushed out of snow day skiing if they don’t have a pass
Not going to be happening in DC. Forecast now is for all rain event even though it’s gotten a little colder. I noticed they have put brine down on some streets in case there’s some ice.
it is not going to be a standard ski season for me, especially since we didnt renew our Ikon passes.
i am in Seattle all next week and there is some good snow coming, so hoping to drive up to Crystal Mountain for a day. i've never skied any of the near-Seattle ski places, so that should be fun and new.
it is remarkable how much planning is required and crap you have to take just to get in one day of skiing. luckily i get free bags on the airline, but it still means schlepping around a lot of stuff
- skiing w/ HAG for a couple days in Feb (lower chances now that i need to go to Sweden for a funeral)
- skiing w/ my grad school sk companion along the Powder Highway in Canadian Rockies in early Mar - this is going to be the most likely skiing for me this year.
- skiing in Europe during the last week in Mar - highly dependent on what happens w/ snow this season, as that might be a little late ..
If you end up at Northstar mid-Feb, let me know. We’ll be there for five days. And I have some buddy passes (still $$ but cheaper than retail). You can see my daughter wearing some your daughters’ old Cal shirts ;-)
Women's basketball team (10-3) hosts the Washington schools this weekend. UW tonight at 7:00 and WSU Sunday at noon. Crucial games for the Bears, really need to win these to have a realistic shot at the post season. (No pressure.) I'm sure there'll be a preview on the main page and a recap on Monday.
trying to figure out my game watching plans for Mon night. i am flying to Seattle tomorrow since older one is still hobbled from knee injury and requested i make dinner and drive them to class for the week.
UW is hosting some watch party, but the 7000 free tickets were snapped up too quickly to get in on that.
I checked in on the score while at Ride + Charlatans show at Fillmore. Was looking forward to speed watching it when I got home. Check the score at the gig and (in my mind) deleted the recording.
rather embarrassingly i was missed my train stop on the way home last night because i fell asleep on train.
i had a few drinks but it was only 1000p. in all the 20+ yrs of living here i have only done that a handful of times and it is usually painful enough that you dont do it again for a long time.
i had to wait 20+ min for an Uber in the 32F weather and then it was another 20 min and $30 to get home.
I've only done that once and it was because I made the mistake of trying to keep up with Rishi in drinking cocktails when he was in game shape and I was years into retirement
In the 50+ years of riding BART, I've only missed my stop a handful of times and only once because I wasn't paying attention. The other times were because the train was too packed for me to disembark in time. That's probably a thing of the past for me in my lifetime, unless BART ridership rebounds tremendously.
I had a very costly nap after Cal’s Big Game win in ‘04…12:30 kick, with plenty of adult refreshments prior, some raucous post-game celebrations at Henry’s and Larry Blake’s after, plus a big Lair reunion dinner down somewhere on Shattuck, followed by more Jack Daniels-infused mirth back up on Telegraph to close the evening. Remember catching the last BART train back to the City, and predictably passed out, only to wake up at SFO instead of Montgomery. Had to make my way to the cab line and took a taxi back to my apartment in the City….it cost me like $70. Dagger.
I used to run home from work four nights a week and take the subway home on Fridays. A few times I fell asleep on the Metro even though it was only a handful of stops and ended up beyond my stop. Fortunately it was easy to get a train back to my stop.
There are some stops in Boston (like Auditorium) where, if you missed your stop, you have to leave the station, cross the street, and then pay to re-enter and go back down again to get the train going the other way.

Also Ron Livingston does a great job playing Ron Livingston. Basically taking his Office Space character and turning him into a rehab counselor.
Update if you find it playing somewhere.
I’m finishing S1 now on Netflix.
Oh, thought it was Prime. I’ll have to check Netflix. Maybe it moved?
Thanks.

Claudine Gay will nonetheless retain her $900,000 per year professorship at Harvard, no?

My cabin up by the Lair has started getting a helluva lot busier on AirBnB since Dodge Ridge opened, I believe today.
other possible plans in works ..

Bears beat UW!
Go Bears!!!

Michigan vs UW
TIL that UW won the other day ;-)
Watched Q1 at restaurant in Truckee and never bothered to see how the game ended.

Warriors give up big lead and then Jokic hits deep three in final seconds to steal the win.
the shot by Jokic was pretty amazing but the Warriors folded in last 5 min and let the Nuggets come back from a 15+ point deficit.
the good thing is that at least it means i am getting over the jet lag (from India) if i can stay up till midnight to watch a game

What ever happened to that dude? I wonder if he's like a fat dad with three kids by now.

But we got the Axe, as we do now….
I passed out on BART one time going the other way, woke up in Hayward and had to cab back to Berkeley as I’d missed the last train. It happens!
But only to the best of us…;-)
