Yeah, I would like to see an ongoing public tally of all expenses related to this purge. That way when people are paying triple for their home construction and salads, the can also see how much of their tax money was spent as well.
Just because there's a cost to a function or a thing, doesn't mean that there is no benefit to the taxpayer who doesn't draw a benefit from that program. Many things have indirect benefits for folks who receive nothing from a program.
I'll give you what should be an obvious example - Social Security. The fact that there's less poverty among senior citizens is actually a comfort to a great many people who don't get monthly benefits since we don't have to see multitudes of old folks on the streets struggling to keep body and soul together. That alone is worth something.
Also, any program that reduces poverty anywhere in any age group, *especially children*, is a net benefit to society, even if your kid(s) have enough.

My question is how are we going to celebrate Data Projection Day? Can someone bake a cake? Should we exchange gifts? Should we decorate? Meanwhile I just can't wait for the "exciting content" coming this week.
got laid off from quantum computing job in Fri (IonQ). mostly good and i am not unhappy or worried about it.
While it was not expected, it wasn’t a complete shock either. My job to use machine learning techniques at a quantum computing company was something of a mismatch and so it is probably for the best.
Going forward, I think I am going stay in the quantum computing field since I have some experience in it now and it looks to be growing rapidly.
happy to have some time off during the ski season for a change and kids old enough that i dont need to be home 100% of the time.
in a fun coincidence, my wife is also currently unemployed. so we have some time together to figure out next phase of life. given that younger child is graduating from HS in Jun and will be gone soon, it gives us a lot more flexibility.
That sounds like a good list of skiing! I think it has snowed 1" at Sugar Bowl since start of January. Lots of cold weather and wind making conditions very icy. Looks like that might change heading into next weekend with some actual weather headed our way. Finally!
Layoff itself never fun, so I’m glad you have a list of fun to come and that it is good timing for you. A friend of ours was laid off the end of last week, seems like a lot happening right now.
Whenever you do a sprinter start (or anything where you want to go forward), you literally start with your non-dominant side's foot forward and your stronger dominant leg curled and extending behind to propel you forward. Even when you skate, surf, or snowboard - your non-dominant foot is forward so that your stronger leg can do the harder balancing/turning work.
Rowers tend to put their best forward, but they're not directly using their feet. Maybe ultimate frisbee where you pivot around your dominant leg? Maybe throwing sports like shotput where you start backwards and kick with your dominant foot backwards first?
My daughter started snowboarding recently. She could not figure out which foot to put forward. My friend, who is extremely experienced, phenomenal snowboarder, her stand in front of him and pushed her off balance. The foot she put forward to catch her fall was supposed to be the one to put forward on her board. After two days of snowboarding, she decided that in fact, it is her other foot she is more comfortable having forward. She has been riding like this all season now. The moral of the story, before you can put your best foot forward, please figure out which one indeed, is your best foot.
Yes. Bindings are setup different for each. I believe the rear foot is more neutral and front foot is angled...not sure since my friend set it up and since I don't snowboard, did not pay attention.
Placekickers and punters generally have a favored foot. I would imagine that it generally corresponds to their dominant hand.
If a person doesn't easily express dominance with one foot or the other, it might also correspond to similar dexterity in their hands. Just spitballin'.
Not that I am aware, but she is pretty agile so maybe competence/confidence in both was close enough to cause confusion for her for a while. Also, I am a right handed, goofy footed by default, but capable of going regular when needed (forced myself to surf regular once I realized facing the wave is much more dynamic), so maybe something genetic there, too.
Soccer players favor a foot. Left footers are rare making them more valuable. A large part of my success as a player came from working diligently to strenthen my left footed game. It's infinitely easier to be good with both feet than it is to be good with both hands.
So let me get this straight. You eat Indian food right-handed with the implication that you're not eating with the peasant butt-wiping left hand. They know that you know that you know that. And they do that even though you're clearly high enough social economic class to obviously afford toilet paper since birth which you would use with your dominant hand (which they think is your right) - and everyone knows that - so they know that you know that they know that you know you superficially eat with your modern butt wiping hand. But you know and they don't know your dominant hand is actually your left and presumably your hand of wiping choice. So you know that they know that you know that they know that you know, but know that they don't know that you're actually NOT eating with your wiping hand. Wipeception.
EDIT: the only reason I'm not 100% certain is because of a later Paul Simon song, "Cecila".

Yup. Miami has 4 wins. Shouldn't have ever been this close. Miami had a good play on the game tying 3. I think we were going to foul before the shot to force 2 FTs, but their play went to the opposite side of the court and we didn't have anyone close.

It’s time once again for Oski Disciple’s Question of the Day.
People often try to put their best foot forward. Can’t putting your second best food forward be good enough? After all, it’s in the top two.
Whenever you do a sprinter start (or anything where you want to go forward), you literally start with your non-dominant side's foot forward and your stronger dominant leg curled and extending behind to propel you forward. Even when you skate, surf, or snowboard - your non-dominant foot is forward so that your stronger leg can do the harder balancing/turning work.

isnt there a difference between "goofy" and "regular" feet setup for snowboarding? my older child does goofy which sounds like your story.
Yes. Bindings are setup different for each. I believe the rear foot is more neutral and front foot is angled...not sure since my friend set it up and since I don't snowboard, did not pay attention.
Is she ambidextrous? Genuinely curious.

i am left handed w/ most things .. but for golf and eating Indian food i use my right hand
