The 4th quarter and the immediate aftermath of the Big Game was a lot of fun. So was my recent trip to a premier league match last May, especially with the home team winning, 3-0. Christmas Eve with the whole family -- 22 of us -- was great.
Well, I hope you like roller-coasters, because the Golden State Warriors took everyone for a ride on Monday night against the Orlando Magic. They fell behind by 11 points in the first quarter. They erased the deficit perfectly, leaving the game tied at halftime. They built up a 15-point lead in the third quarter. They blew that entire lead, trailing at one moment in the fourth quarter.
PALOS VERDES – The California women's golf team ended a second straight round in the top five at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge, posting an 8-over-par 576 through 36 holes at Palos Verdes Golf Club.
BERKELEY – Al Grigsby, a former California men's basketball standout who helped the Golden Bears to their two most recent NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances, is the 2025 recipient of the Pete Newell Career Achievement Award. Grigsby will be honored with the award in person during Cal's home game against Wake Forest on Saturday.
Don't quite understand this one. Grigsby already has his number retired (a headscratcher even then as it is today). This award is to recognize "career achievement," but his resume is a little random. I love Big Al. Don't get me wrong. But more has been done to celebrate him than his more decorated counterparts in Kidd and Murray.
6 years of eligibility was relatively unprecedented at the time, but now guys like Grant Newell get 7 seven years of eligibility for less than a doctor's note.
BERKELEY – Following a weekend in which she became just the 17th player in the history of women's college basketball to reach 400 career 3-pointers and set the program record for single-season 3-pointers made (69), California guard Ioanna Krimili was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Year Watch List. The announcement was made by the US Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Monday and consists of 50 of the top women's college basketball players in the country.
i recall watching the Oscars regularly. have not seen them in years. maybe that was more driven by the fact my parents would always watch despite the fact they almost NEVER went to the movies.
I use to watch the Oscars but as I've become more and more of a serious cinephile and read about and watched more films I've seen how ridiculous the whole charade is. Haven't watched it in many years.
It’s time once again for Oski Disciple’s Question of the Day.
Would you take your neurologist seriously if he was wearing a cowboy hat?
Think of a recent time when you really had a ball

BAD TRADES
Boston trades Mookie Betts for Alex Verdugo and Connor Wong.
Dodgers traded a very young Pedro Martinez for Delino Deshields.

I thought for a second they'd found another year of eligibility for him.

We could use him.

POLITICS
Hmm...is this how a non-US born person can become president?
I have to believe that a political backlash is coming here. Elon is overreaching so far it's insane.
Wait till the Koch Brothers show up.
Or at least the surviving Koch Brother.

Sunday night I maintained my perfect record of never having watched the Grammys. I also have a perfect record of never having cared about the Grammys.
same, same. i didnt even know they happened last night until now although i did have a general idea this is approximately the season for it.
I learned it happened via a picture of Kanye and his partner on the red carpet. Glad my kids weren’t looking over my shoulder!

I still always make it a point to watch the Oscars. Other awards shows are whatever.
