I've started wearing one of those blood glucose monitors to see why my blood work always shows me as prediabetic even though I'm pretty healthy. I had a pretty good idea of what to expect, but I am still quite surprised as to what I've learned - specifically to be able to actually see and feel what a blood sugar mini-cycle feels like. It also curiously answered the bored-or-hungry question. As it turns out, I am not hungry when my blood sugars are low. But I do feel hungry my blood sugar levels are high because I've eaten something a few hours ago and the levels are lowering due to insulin, so I snack to sate those feelings which keeps my blood sugar levels high. Nothing big and usually something so-called healthy. But even healthy things boost your glucose. So my many-small-meals-per-day - which was recommended by doctors for decades - appears to be hurting me.
Aha! This also kinda sorta answers my questions about my eating habits and the effect it might have on my health. It seems to suggest that eating meals at regular intervals is preferred as a potential preventive measure, as opposed to all day grazing.
There is a photo of me and my wife. We are sitting by a river hundreds of miles from civilization. My eyes are closed as I am midway through a laugh and it looks like I didn't have a care in the world - because I didn't.
My big brother, my mother and I playing in the snow in Tahoe. I'm about four or five. My mother appears to be laughing, in any case she looks very happy. Most of my memories of her are of when she was wracked by mental illness and doing things like yelling at inanimate objects.
In a living room in front of a fireplace are a mother in a velvet armchair reading a book with two of her sons behind her. Opposite the mother is a father, her husband, also in a velvet armchair, beaming as he gazes upon his wife and the two sons. Behind the father stands his eldest son and seated to his left is their only daughter. These are my father's father's parents, my grandfather, and his three siblings. The living room is in my home, in Berkeley.
I know this picture is somewhere, but a picture of my sister and I sitting on the killer whale statues at Sea World, along with my mom and grandmother. My mom sent this picture to her half sister which prompted them to choose San Diego when they came here with their kids.
my sister and i standing atop Machu Picchu .. i was probably 6, she was 4. we had just finished living in Brazil for 6 months and were doing a 1 month S American trip before coming home.
i have not been back but there is definitely a lasting memory of how impressive a site it was.
My sister and I are 1 year and 6 days apart (I am older). We are about 6 and 7 years old, respectively. Late 1970s. I am sitting in a chair and my sister is standing behind me. She is wearing a pretty powder blue dress. I am wearing...gasp...a white collared shirt, green felt bow tie, and a red plaid sportcoat.
I only vaguely remember that it was part of a group of family portraits, maybe even at Christmas one year. It was definitely professionally done (though a so-called professional letting me sit for a picture with that jacket on is malpractice, IMHO...lol). The only reason why I might doubt that is because I'm not aware of any other pictures from that sitting.
The mere presence of Luka Dončić was enough for the Lakers to snap the Clippers curse as they dominated their cross-town rivals on Tuesday, 122-97.
LeBron James was energetic and dominant, finishing with 26 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and three steals. Rui Hachimura scored 20 points to go with his six rebounds and two assists. Austin Reaves dished nine dimes to go with his 20 points and six rebounds.
The Trump administration removed the $800 de minimus requirement for any package from China. This means every package will have to be inspected and a tariff paid. Americans ship ourselves 4 million packages per day from China. This will absolutely brick all in-bound China delivery services - especially the US Postal Office - who do not have the staff to inspect every package. And we'll see the impact on all inbound shipments.
First it was Greenland. Then it was Panama, then Canada as a new state . Now it’s Gaza. Where is next for the new great colonial power on the block - Europe?
the odd thing i dont get is "how do making these absurd statements help his agenda"? one can see that the threat of tariffs might get some concessions. this Gaza stuff isnt even a thing on either political party's agenda.
Yes this. But also once a developer, always a developer. And now he needs to compete with Jared and Ivanka's new European Riviera (Albania, active development there).
I am also quite sure no one in the State Dept was aware of what he was going to say re Let's Just Clear Out Gaza and Do a Resort Development. That was all off the cuff, he liked what he heard (from himself) and just keeps going with it.
over! and the off the cuff Gaza stuff seems to be confirmed by NYT reporting that there were no conversations with State or Defense about the proposal. Glad there seems to be a walkback happening.
Remember, Trump is a real estate developer, and Gaza is one HUGE redevelopment project. Plenty of opportunities to make money on projects funded with other people's money. Not to mention the inevitable bribes, kickbacks, and favored partner deals.
Coming off an ACC win against Pitt in which the No. 21 California women's basketball team (19-4; 7-3 ACC) scored its most points (84) and had its largest win margin (31 points) during conference play, the Golden Bears hit the road to face Louisville (15-7, 8-3) at the KFC Yum! Center on Thursday at 5 p.m. PT.
PALOS VERDES – Junior Adora Liu shot under par for the second straight day and freshman Marie-Agnes Fischer recorded her best round as a Golden Bear on Tuesday as the California women's golf team closed out the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club in eighth place.
The second annual Go Girls*, Go Bears, Go Play Field Day – an event hosted by the Cameron Institute that allows students ages 6-13 to interact with Cal student-athletes and try out different sports and drills - is set for Feb. 16 at Edwards Stadium.
Admission is free and the event takes place from 12-2 p.m. PT. Following the event, all youth participants will be granted free admission to the Cal women's basketball game against Syracuse at 3 p.m. Adults tickets are available for $5.
After an outstanding performance at NC State last weekend, senior Mya Lauzon of the No. 7 California women's gymnastics team was named the ACC Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Lauzon, who became the first Golden Bear to win the award on Jan. 7, is now also the team's first repeat winner. Cal has won four weekly honors in the first five weeks of its inaugural ACC season.
BERKELEY – The California men's basketball team continues its three-game home stand Wednesday when it hosts NC State. The late-night ACC contest will tip off at 8 p.m. PT in Haas Pavilion and will be broadcast on ACC Network and 810 AM.
California women's basketball guards Ioanna Krimili and Kayla Williams were named to the Women's College All-Star Game Midseason Watch List on Tuesday. They were selected by a distinguished panel of national media experts to potentially compete in the national showcase event April 5 in Tampa.
California men's swimming graduate student Lucas Henveaux has been tabbed ACC Co-Swimmer of the Week for the first time this season, the conference announced Tuesday.
Henveaux had a record-breaking senior day as he set three records, including two Spieker Aquatic Complex records and one program record. In the meet against No. 9 Stanford, he clocked a 14.29.74 in the 1650-yard freestyle, setting the fastest mark in the country this season while cementing himself atop of Cal's all-time top 10 list in the event.
California men's gymnastics' Aidan Li has been named the MPSF Specialist of the Week for his outstanding performance at Stanford this past Sunday, when he posted the nation's highest pommel horse score of the week (14.650) on the way to his third straight event title and out-scored second place by eight-tenths of a point.
My expectation is that he'll be a GM of Football - just like is being done across other football programs including what Andrew Luck is doing at Furd. Any number of elements can be handed over to him, but other schools have leaned heavily on making the person essentially the GM of recruiting - who knows the amount of resources they have and being tactical about going after players who are now essentially all free-agents every year.
The scuttlebutt from the insiders over at BearInsider is that Rivera is going to have control over hiring/firing decisions for football and will report directly to the Chancellor, not the AD. This seems pretty huge, if true. It would basically be taking Cal football away from Knowlton's control and letting it operate more autonomously.
The report I heard on the radio here is GM of football. They mentioned it in passing because of his time here. Seems like a good job for him because he has always repped Cal but not sure how good a field coach he is.
even the NFL doesnt have this sort of yearly renegotiating of salaries. i suppose w/ only 4 yrs of college it makes sense. however, it has pretty much changed college sports forever (in not a good way)
There are two actors on Chicago Fire that are Aussie and I had no clue until they were interviewed on some talk show. I'm not sure I had seen them on any other show so I had no clue.
My favorite planet is the Daily Planet. Pretty good newspaper and they seem to always get the scoop on stories. It's almost like their reporters are superhuman.
"Planet" is defined as a mostly spherical substellar object. On one end of the mass spectrum, it can't be so small in mass that its gravity doesn't naturally hold its shape together into a sphere - which is why Pluto is not a planet - it's an orbiting near-planetoid sized rock. On the other hand, it can't be so large that it self-ignites and becomes a star. Binary star systems are generally stable because the two bodies act upon each other in a predictable way with a known solution. Three stars do not have a closed-loop solution, so over the long-term seem chaotic in movement.

I bet he would make more money on bribes and kickbacks than as an actual developer. Also, less actual work.
That is his preferred business model.

DBD AV CLUB
An actor/actress whose American accent is so good that you can easily forget they are not American
Damien Lewis - Captain Winters from Band of Brothers and Bobby Axelrod from Billions. I have never heard him slip up and forgot he's British.
Good call. I was really surprised when I learned Lewis was a Brit.
I didn't know either, until I saw him interviewed after Homeland.
Australians tend to be pretty masterful at this. Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Hugh Jackman, etc.
I figure they all know that career opportunities are limited down under, so they need to be able to play American to really hit it big.
Charlize Theron in Devil's Advocate. She's South African with a mild accent, but did a Southern drawl very, very well.
Karen Gillan in the Jumanji movies and in Guardians of the Galaxy. She is a Scot with a very thick accent...you wouldn't know it from her acting.
There are two actors on Chicago Fire that are Aussie and I had no clue until they were interviewed on some talk show. I'm not sure I had seen them on any other show so I had no clue.
Kate Winselt. Brilliant actress and totally convincing the many times she's played a Yank.
