AD plays 3 quarters and in true AD style is now out injured for several weeks

Adductor strains suck. Just a stupid twitchy little muscle that freaks out if you turn weird.

Eagles smash Chiefs 40-22 and it wasn't nearly as close as the score indicates

Eagles defense should get MVP.

or even Saquon Barkley because you could tell that the Chief's defense was so intent on stopping him that everything else on offense was fine for the Eagles.

this was also one of the most dominant defensive performances in a Super Bowl that i remember along with the '86 Bears and whenever the Ravens won.

The Chiefs O-line got thoroughly beat across the board, and that was the story of the game. Almost everything else was a product of that.

The o-line was the problem in the other Mahomes era Chiefs Super Bowl loss as well. Andy Reid and the front office will need to take a serious look at that group, not just a couple of individuals.

Their Oline used to be fine when Mitchell Schwartz was there.

Yup, this was basically a mirror image of the Bucs game. Mahomes was harassed constantly by a four-man rush and the Chiefs' defense was not able to do the same on the other end.

Kind of makes me frustrated that the 2019 49ers squad couldn't do the same, but I'm thinking the KC OL was better back then.

There is a Great-Horned Owl that graces the upper branches of my cedar in the front yard nightly. Its deep hooting is superb.

When you hear those owls, it sounds so owly that it sounds fake. Like it's like exactly you hear on a cartoon or something. HooHOOOOOhooHOOOOOOOOOO!! And it's frickin' loud.

We have them in the area. They are somewhat transitory, so some years there have been several talking from tree to tree right around the house, other times just one, as the others move to other trees a mile away that appeals to them better at the time.

LOVE to hear and see them; they are also a big help with field mice and gophers.

One really big one that is bigger than our little 16 pound dog really scares the dog whenever she sees or hears it; at least she is smart enough to know that owl is nothing to mess with!

I found evidence of a macabre oak titmouse mauling on my walkway yesterday morning and I suspect it was the owl’s breakfast, though it could have been that the titmouse was killed by colliding with the window pane and a raptor simply scavenged the carcass.

I’m jealous. There was family of barred owl with three owlets last spring on the island I often walk around. Would love when I could hear the hoot around sunset. Haven’t seen or heard them in months.

Superbowl halftime time performer went of script to protest

Probably almost no one was still paying attention at that point. It was the worst super bowl halftime I've ever seen, and I have seen them all. I don't know what they were attempting to do, or who to reach, but it was an utter failure.

And a real disappointment after what I thought was a pretty decent pregame.

It's what everyone was talking about at the cardiologist office's this morning. It seemed pretty polarizing. You either got it or it wasn't in your wheelhouse.

space_lab's avatar

I can see why the cardiologist would care, it gave a lot of old folks heart attacks 😂.

I don’t follow rap much—the Dre halftime a few years ago was more my speed—but I enjoyed it. Not Like Us killed, loved the Serena cameo.

i rather liked it. i liked the part at the start when 150 people came out of that one cab on stage!

i had to read a bit about the message it was trying to send as hip-hop is not what i listen to that often.

It’s time once again for Oski Disciple’s Question of the Day.

I saw a can that said “Evaporated Milk,” if the milk has evaporated, what the hell is in the can?

Expand full comment
SGBear's avatar

Fully evaporated milk is powdered milk. I have a can of it sitting in a ziploc bag in my pantry because sometimes you get a random recipe that calls for it - especially baked items. Like Christina Tosi's Cereal Milk Cookies. They're probably not as good as they cost in Manhattan - but they're still pretty frickin' good.

Both evaporated and powered milk are not bad items to keep on hand in the pantry. Great shelf life, and handy in a pinch, as well as useful in cooking. Also good whenever refrigeration is an issue, like camping away from the RV, or during power outages. I can also recall a couple of times there was a milk shortage, an "issue" for someone who has been a happy to be a milk drinker for over 67 years.

KLIM was the first powdered milk I was introduced to as a very young child.

My dad was part of the generation that was raised on Ovaltine. My grandparents tried to serve it to the grandkids and we rebelled against it. But then my parents bought Carnation Instant Breakfast - which is essentially powdered nonfat milk, sugar, and some emulsifiers - which is weird because you mixed it in milk - so you essentially got a double-milk/sugar drink. If you ask a powdered milk company what you should have for breakfast - it's what they're selling.

i drank a lot of Ovaltine too. does Nestle Quik count? i definitely had more of that.

Expand full comment
FiatSlug's avatar

Quik definitely counts. Quik was also a go to.

You know what actually worked? a teaspoon scoop of peanut butter which was then covered in Quik. Not a Reese's, but still not a bad combo.

AndyPanda's avatar

Nestle Quik always counts. We have a container of it in the kitchen cabinet; have a mug every once in a while, and use it as a chocolate powder in baked goods some times.

What's evaporated is about 60% of the water, concentrating the milk solids and changing the viscosity.

mostly sugar.

in Vietnam was had a lot of coffee w/ condensed milk. i am sure they are very different but i put the 2 in the same category.

I've said this before on the DBD. I bought a giant box of Chai Masala only to realize that I don't like masala tea - I like the taste of hot sweetened condensed milk.

FiatSlug's avatar

The only diff between evaporated milk and condensed milk is that condensed milk has added sugar.

I was introduced to Vietnamese coffee years ago at a Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Oakland (no, not Le Cheval) on 13th Street. The name escapes me. It closed down in 2018 or 2019, I think.
