Probably leftover food from the Shiva I was at for a HS friend's mom (HSB's friend as well). They were leaving for NYC the day after so they handed out a bunch of food. Roasted Potatoes and some sort of shell pasta with Pesto. There was also green beans and salmon but those were gone by the time I got to it.
No 3 and his mom went to Hyphy burger which I think right now is all the rage. It's a smashburger type burger. They said it was pretty good, but not great. The best thing is that they have shakes with cereal in them. He got the Captain Crunch shake which they both loved. I had a taste and it was fine, but I don't like Captain Crunch so that makes sense. They had an extra burger because his mom likes plain cheese burgers and the menu item said burger with cheese. They missed that the other options were to remove everything instead of add everything so it came dressed. So they ordered another one for her and gave me the extra.
Things taste better when I eat a meal following a nice workout. Today after swimming laps at Mills College, I got a salmon steak and cooked that in a pan over some veggies. Fallin’ off the bones good. Too often, when you get salmon in a restaurant, they overcook it.
That sounds good. No 3's favorite way to eat salmon is skin side down on low heat and salt and pepper the top. Put the lid on and cook until it's barely done. The skin will be nice and crispy and the meat super tender.
Cross (17/19 Amazon Prime). Series based on the books by James Patterson. I never read the books but Season 1 was great. Alex Cross is played by Aldis Hodge, who was Hardison in Leverage. Season 2 Episode 1 was a good beginning to season 2.
Olympics coverage. since i have Peacock TV sub i just dial in exactly the sport or event i want to watch.
sometimes i am motivated to wake up early (500a) and watching something live. today i watched the Mens GS skiing a few hours later when i was working out.
the first computer i think i ever used at a PET. maybe those were in middle school with a cassette tape drive for storing your data.
the first one we got at home was an IBM PC w/ dual floppy disk drives. it was too expensive at the time to pay for a 20MB hard drive (or something like that).
I ended up getting a 20 MB half height Seagate ST-225 hard drive from the West Coast computer faire in Moscone center (yes I'm a nerd) and put it in. A different year, I also got the multifunction card to upgrade the ram to a whole 640 K and also other output ports like a game controller.
Oh maybe it wasn't madden. It was just X and O and you chose the play and it was simulated. Maybe the original Madden was during college. I remember playing it with college roommate on a flight down to LA. it was to down view with actual players.
First computer in the house was a school loaner. I don't remember what kind it was, but every kid got to take it home for one night. None of us knew what what it did, though, so we sorta just stared at it.
Eventually got an Apple II-e. I think that was our first.
First one I used was an IBM XT (I recall it was a 286)
The first computer in the house growing up was an original IBM 5150
First computer that was mine was a 486 that was upgraded with a Pentium overdrive that my dad's company just threw away. That upgrade sped up Doom and made it possible for me to play Quake when that first came out
I think the XTs had EGA graphics so they could show 16 colors at once, vs our original PCs that had CGA graphics with 4 colors at once. Yet, we could still play all the old games. I probably had 200+ 5 1/4 floppy disks with games and other stuff. Old Atari games like Dig Dug. The original Flight Simulator. Loderunner. So many great games.

THE MOST TENSE flare-up in what team sources otherwise described as a relatively cordial cold war between Jonathan Kuminga and Steve Kerr came on the afternoon of Dec. 10.
The Golden State Warriors had been eliminated from the NBA Cup two weeks earlier, giving them a rare break in the schedule. They'd won in Chicago the previous Sunday night and didn't play again until Friday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Detroit center Isaiah Stewart was suspended seven games by the NBA on Wednesday, while three other players were also penalized for their roles in a fight during a game between the Pistons and Charlotte Hornets.
Hornets forwards Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabate were each suspended four games for fighting and escalating the altercation, while Pistons center Jalen Duren got two games for initiating the altercation and fighting, the league announced.
The NFL offseason is underway after the Seahawks dominated the Patriots to win Super Bowl LX. Now we can really start looking forward to the draft, which begins on April 23 in Pittsburgh.
Mendoza #1 to the Raiders. As a Raiders fan (sorta since they moved), I don't want Mendoza. I think he has limitations, and as a team with a bad OL, I don't think he's a good fit.
The attributes that make California men's basketball fans fond of Rytis Petraitis – the winning plays, the extra injection of hustle, the extensive bumps and bruises – can be traced back to his younger days growing up in the same house as one of the top rebounders in the old Pac-10 Conference.
Petraitis' mom, Reda Petraitis, finished fourth in the Pac-10 in rebounding as a senior at Oregon State in 1999-00 with an average of 7.4 boards per game. As with many elite rebounders, it was Reda's focused determination and competitiveness that made her so successful on the boards.
I'm definitely going to bring my A game. We need to sweep this East Coast trip to stay on-track.
Also hoping that Chris Bell really brings it in his return to the dome, where he played three seasons.
Syracuse is in shambles this year. They're likely to fire HC Autry after this year, and there was something weird going on when Carmelo's son Kiyan Anthony was benched.
After my first time at Dinosaur BBQ, I called my friend from grad school, which was UT-Austin. He's a BBQ enthusiast who was, at the time, living in NYC.
I told him that I had found the best BBQ in the State of New York, and it's in Syracuse.
He said that's funny, because HE had found the best BBQ in the State of New York, and it's in Harlem.
We then argued vociferously for 20 minutes about which BBQ was better. We yelled at each other about the smallest details of the BBQ, and then eventually about each other's qualifications to even have an opinion on the matter.
Eventually, we sorted out that we were both arguing on behalf of Dinosaur BBQ. They have their original location in Syracuse and had opened up one in Harlem. Our wives had a field day with that one.
I respect the garbage plate experience, even if I don't quite understand it. But Rochester is on the wrong side of Syracuse for me - I'm coming from Albany. And I have to drive back home tonight so, to your point, I won't be nearly drunk enough.
I was visiting with a friend a few years ago and we didn't have time for a garbage plate until late morning/early afternoon when we were both stone sober. It was...not great. So yeah, best to be really drunk, probably also doesn't hurt to be 19 years old and really drunk.
The California women's basketball team (15-10, 6-6 ACC) will look to build off its first-ever ACC weekend road sweep after defeating Georgia Tech and Pitt when it hosts visiting Virginia on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT at Haas Pavilion.
This will mark the seventh overall meeting between the two programs with the series tied at 3-3. Cal won the most recent matchup, 76-70, in Charlottesville on Feb. 20, 2025. In that game, Lulu Twidale hit the biggest shot of the night when she nailed a triple in the corner that put Cal up by six with just 15 seconds left.

California track & field pole vaulters Ali Sahaida and Sam Novak have been selected as ACC award-winners for their impressive outings this past weekend, as announced by the conference Tuesday. Sahaida was named the ACC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while Sam Novak was recognized as the ACC Men's Freshman of the Week - becoming the first Golden Bear pole vaulting duo to be honored on the same day.
California women's gymnastics' Sage Melkonian has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Co-Specialist of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first weekly conference honor of Melkonian's career and the fourth notched by a Golden Bear this season after Annalise Newman-Achee was named ACC Gymnast of the Week following week one and Tonya Paulsson was awarded ACC Newcomer of the Week after weeks one and five.
Junior guard Gisella Maul of the California women's basketball team was named a U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Week honoree, it was announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon. Maul joins four other players across the country who received the weekly accolade, which is drawn from weekly conference honors as well as at-large additions. She becomes the seventh ACC player this season to earn the recognition.

That UNC roster was good. Dean Smith got more wins than Rupp the next game or two in that tournament.
The team the next year was even better. Don't know how they didn't win it all. I think that 97-98 might have been the same team we beat in the Pete Newell Classic where Dean Smith got an award, but he had retired and wasn't there.
DBD Lunch
yesterday i went to Katz's deli and had a half-half bologna-pastrami sandwich, a pickle, and a chocolate egg cream
it was great!
also no line to get in at Katz's which is rare. maybe the cold and snow scared all the tourists away?
https://photos.app.goo.gl/9LB5KNvqXfAwMSSR9
today we are driving up to VT. maybe something random at home before we hit the road.
Check out Honey Road someday when you get a chance. One of the owners is a Cal alumna
https://www.honeyroadrestaurant.com/
oh good to know about Cal alum. we have been there and we really like it.
the place i posted about last week, The Wise Fool, was started by a person who used to work there.
how do you do it? I-87 to glens falls, then Rt 4 to Fairhaven then to vergennes then Rt 7 on up?
Or do you go all the way up to Schroon Lake and then over to Ticonderoga and then over the Crown Point Bridge? (This is how I'd do it.)
Or I suppose you could go up I-91, but that's sorta off my radar because of where I start from.
we do them all. in the winter i prefer going interstate the whole way, 95 > 91 > 89.
in the summers (which we have only done a couple times, i like to explore all sorts of country roads.
sometimes Albany > lake geoge and then up. other times Taconic > route 7 all the way.
Well then I'll put in a plug for adding the Crown Point Bridge to your list, if it's not already on it. It's a very scenic drive and it competes for the fastest route from Albany. Exit 28 from 87 to Ticonderoga then north to the bridge.
In the summer, the ferry is also fun, as you probably know.
The bologna part of this took me off guard.
Probably leftover food from the Shiva I was at for a HS friend's mom (HSB's friend as well). They were leaving for NYC the day after so they handed out a bunch of food. Roasted Potatoes and some sort of shell pasta with Pesto. There was also green beans and salmon but those were gone by the time I got to it.
tell us about your burger and shake story from yesterday. i missed some of it when the phone cut out
No 3 and his mom went to Hyphy burger which I think right now is all the rage.
I’m guilty of that at home too.

First Computer
We had a TRS-80 (Trash 80) Model 3 with the tape drive. Then we got an original IBM PC with an Epson dot matrix printer.
we had a Okidata dot matrix printer. good times.
A slide rule.
That is all.
old school
I also had a slide rule long before getting an electronic computer.
But if we're including such devices, my first was an abacus.
Makes total sense to me. Abacus is even more old school than a slide rule.
the first computer i think i ever used at a PET. maybe those were in middle school with a cassette tape drive for storing your data.

that's why we played more video games at your house!!
Or the first Madden at your house.
was that Madden? it was a computer football game, just not sure if was the same strain as Madden
I was a TA in the programming class in 8th grade. I did bring home a Commodore 64 over break to play with.
Horizon Computers 80808
Fat Mac
We may have had a trash 80, but the first computer I really used was a Apple IIe. My cousin would send us floppies with games he had hacked.
First one I used was an IBM XT (I recall it was a 286)
The first computer in the house growing up was an original IBM 5150
First computer that was mine was a 486 that was upgraded with a Pentium overdrive that my dad's company just threw away. That upgrade sped up Doom and made it possible for me to play Quake when that first came out
the XT was the more expensive and "business version" of the orginal PC i think
I think the XTs had EGA graphics so they could show 16 colors at once, vs our original PCs that had CGA graphics with 4 colors at once. Yet, we could still play all the old games. I probably had 200+ 5 1/4 floppy disks with games and other stuff. Old Atari games like Dig Dug. The original Flight Simulator. Loderunner. So many great games.
I vaguely recall that my family's XT was CGA. It appears that EGA was an option about 1 year after it was introduced.
And my game was Digger- a Mr. Do clone that had a PC speaker rendition of the Popcorn Song. Good times :)
Apple IIe
First computer I used was an Apple IIe, and I played Oregon Trail on it.
First computer I owned was some kind of Packard Bell PC that I bought in the mid-'90s. It ran Windows and I used AOL on it.
if everyone in our generation had a dollar for each time we died from dysentery on the Oregon Trail...
In the time it took for you to write that, Ed Dickson scored a TD AND you died of dysentery.

Which is why I clicked because I didn't think they would BAN them.

Excellent line play was a fundamental of Al Davis teams. It has been a missing ingredient of Mark Davis teams.
