[WaPo} CDC to change their guidance from current 5-day isolation. According to their contact, they will go to 24 hours after a fever, even if you still have mild symptoms. The thinking is that almost everyone has some sort of immunity now.
It makes sense to me, probably could have been done earlier. COVID-19 just doesn't seem to present a large public-health risk anymore. Vaccines are widely available and almost everyone has been exposed at this point.
The symptoms and severity can vary so much, as they can with other respiratory ailments, that its really hard to "one size fits all" it. If you are really sick, Covid or something else, you probably are (and need to be) down for few days. If your system is doing a good job of managing whatever it is, proceed with caution accordingly.
I have had Covid three times and have yet to have a fever. I guess I can just let it rip (except that I generally feel so shitty you couldn't pry me off the couch).
Yeah, I’m sort of in this mindset as well. Plus, this fall my wife tested positive for Covid for a month on tests given out at her work, so she isolated for a month (she is super serious about Covid unfortunately). Then it turned out the tests given out at her work were counterfeit! I tried three other brands on her and all negative so she was able to come out. I don’t even know if she really did have Covid even, but it just makes me feel like fuck all this, just tell me if I’m dying or not
Books, CDs. I don't use them (CDs are in boxes in the basement and all my music is stored on various computers/drives, while most of the books are on a giant bookshelf), but I can't convince myself to toss them or give them away.
T-shirts. I'm not sure how many I have but it's probably more than 30. I basically rotate through them, except for special occasions like game days. I put freshly washed ones on top and grab ones to wear from the bottom.
My dry cleaner stopped accepting them and the recyclers don't want them in the recycle bin. So now they're gathering in my closet until I can bundle them up and toss them.
I find it hard to believe that you can't recycle metal hangers. Not curbside, because hangers would make a mess. But there are other options. For instance, in Berkeley you can make donations of recyclable materials (including metal hangers) at the BuyBack (entrance on 2nd St just north of Gilman St.).
For us, counties manage the recycling. My county and the next closest county don't accept wire hangars. I mean, they'll accept them, but they go in the trash. The recycling center near my lake house doesn't accept wire. The closest one near Chapel Hill that accepts wire, but that's more than an hour round trip. It's just not worth it.
Books, but I’m thinking of donating a lot of old ones, especially old textbooks. I won’t get rid of my class notes from Cal though, still have those!!!
that's great. i have all my notes from undergrad and grad school.
the best ones are from my Classics undergrad architecture courses. in order to be able to pass the slideshow-based tests, i quickly drew the pictures in the notebooks. so if i ever go to Greece (maybe this summer), i'll be able to take my notebooks along for reference.
the physics ones are oddly useful right now too since i my job has something to do w/ physics for the first time in all the years.
I had a couple of classes where I got paid for copying my notes for some special needs students so really took pains to make them clear and organized. My wife and kids gently mock me about this, but I am taking those things to the grave, baby!!!!
Shirts. The variation in climate makes a range of weights mandatory. Add in official uniforms and team gear, again with variation in weather you have to cope with, plus indoors vs outdoors, and you blow well past that number. And clothes hangers as a result.
The Golden State Warriors cruised past the Utah Jazz on Monday night, extending their winning streak to five games in a 129-107 victory. The Dubs are now 26-25 on the season and 1.5 games ahead of the Jazz for the 10th seed in the Western Conference.
The Warriors found themselves in the penalty early in the first quarter, but more than made up for Utah’s advantage at the free-throw line through turnovers and three-point shooting. After the first frame, the Dubs led by eight points.
Warriors looked good last night. Klay finally looked good. I wonder if realizing that he isn't the 37 pt quarter, 60 point game guy anymore is lifting some of the pressure off himself.
Klay Thompson drops strong hint regarding Warriors' future beyond this season
Phoenix Open will discuss changes to their security after this last one. They talk about weather related logistics but completely gloss over how things got a little crazy because they had so many drunk guys in the galleries.
I went to the WMPO back in ‘13 when I lived in PHX, and still drank but before I met the miserable ex and became a drunk…I was much more of a responsible drinker then and remained well-behaved on my visit. The crowd was as well…it’s just gotten worse and worse each year.
I think it's a crime that the AT&T Pro-Am, Phoenix Open and LA Open are held so early in the season. I understand that the chances of poor weather in February are much lower in California and Arizona than the rest of the country, but it is often at the expense of rounds when poor weather does inevitably interfere (as it did at the AT&T this year).
SF Giants get some pop in their OF via Jorge Soler. Then again, they could sign a chimp with cimbals and do better. However, that's a lot of money to have the entire outfield hit near the Mendoza line.
As an unabashed critique of Farhan, his lack of baseball knowledge, and his silly Moneyball nonsense, this is the second move he has made in 5+ years that I like. At least now you have 1 guy in the lineup opponents have to worry about pitching to…sure, he’s the only guy not named Buster that you can say that about in Farhan’s 5 years, and he’s still only a .243 career hitter, but at least it’s something. No one else in that lineup is dangerous.
As a Cubs fan, I always liked Soler, especially because he always turned up his game in the playoffs. He was unbelievable in the 2015 NLDS against the Cards, and I think on the Bravos he was WS MVP right?
Some Republicans boycotted the SuperBowl because it was between Woke Kelce/Swift & Pelosi's 49ers. So many boycotted that it was the most watched telecast in history

SEATTLE – The 15th-ranked California women's tennis team ended its run in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-1 consolation win over host and 21st-ranked Washington on Sunday night at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Freshman Mao Mushika won in three sets over Melissa Sakar to clinch the victory.
BERKELEY - The No. 2 California women's gymnastics team used a clutch performance in the floor exercise to rally for a 197.125 - 196.850 win over No. 17 Arizona on Sunday at Haas Pavilion.
SEATTLE, Wash. The California women's basketball team got off to a fast start going up by as many as 13 points in the first quarter, but had to grind it out to earn a 59-57 win at Washington Sunday afternoon at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, Washington. The win gives the Golden Bears (15-10, Pac 5-8) their first season sweep of Washington (13-10, 3-9) along with Washington State since the 2018-19 season and marks the most conference wins under Cal head coach Charmin Smith. At 15-10, Cal is off to its best 25-game start since the 2018-19 season (started 15-10).
BERKELEY – Alex Chang won a three-setter over Chris Papa to clinch the California men's tennis team's 4-0 victory over Pepperdine on Sunday at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Cal junior also paired with Ryder Jackson to clinch the doubles point.
LAFAYETTE, La. – Randi Roelling went 5.1 innings in the circle and allowed just one run with four strikeouts to lead the California softball team to a 3-1 eight-inning victory over No. 21 Louisiana on Sunday at Lamson Park.
Acacia Anders went 2-for-3 and was responsible for the game-winning RBI, while Kaylee Pond and Hope Alley recorded two hits apiece for the Bears.
California track & field closed out its weekend with yet another standout day, posting a veritable cornucopia of impressive times and marks that included three all-time program bests, five podium finishes, 17 total personal records and an additional special milestone.

i have even heard medical people say that they dont want to test and dont want to find out since they dont want the hassle of a 5-day isolation.

Awesome. Look forward to paying my respects. He was such a good dude.
How should one RSVP?
Asking for a friend.
Whoa, what, Cugel passed away? Oh man, had no idea, so sorry to hear
A couple of months ago. Brain cancer.

Ah man, such awful news, this slipped by me. Seemed like such a good dude
that is a nice place to have it. that is the one on top w/ views of the Bay and the field right?
Something you own more than 30 of
National Park tokens…
Books. Laboratory Notebooks. wrenches (maybe). paint brushes (from tiny through huge). socks.
Shoes
Concert tees
Vinyl
Spoons
Flannel shirts
Pearl snap western shirts
Cookbooks
Cocktail rocks glasses
Hot sauces
Books, CDs. I don't use them (CDs are in boxes in the basement and all my music is stored on various computers/drives, while most of the books are on a giant bookshelf), but I can't convince myself to toss them or give them away.
Books, CDs, pairs of shoes.
T-shirts. I'm not sure how many I have but it's probably more than 30. I basically rotate through them, except for special occasions like game days. I put freshly washed ones on top and grab ones to wear from the bottom.
i would think you have at least 30 pieces of just Cal clothing/t-shirts
I just looked at my tshirt drawer. Probably closer to 50+
Books, CDs, DVDs, Cal football programs.
Wire hangers.
My dry cleaner stopped accepting them and the recyclers don't want them in the recycle bin. So now they're gathering in my closet until I can bundle them up and toss them.
"No wire hangers!"
Evaaaaah!
That's the first thing I thought of.
We take them in the scrap metal bin at the landfill. Our curbside program in Davis doesn't want them.
The sad truth about recycling is that most of it goes in the trash anyway.
Books, but I’m thinking of donating a lot of old ones, especially old textbooks. I won’t get rid of my class notes from Cal though, still have those!!!

CDs (still) - I stopped counting at 750 and it would be worse if I hadn’t switched to digital only and now streaming.
ah yes .. i probably have about 300. i still listen to mine. there is a niceness to putting them in and sitting down to listen.
that being said my 30+ yr CD player finally broke and i am in the market for a new one. any suggestions? was looking at this Yamaha 5 disc player

i wish i could say i had more than 30 records. i just got a turntable and slowly building up a collection. maybe i have 15 right now.
I think I ended up giving all my CDs to Goodwill when we moved. Decided that whatever I wanted to listen to I could find online.
