Dodgers SP Roki Sasaki has good debut as he sets 'em up looking for his 100 mph fastball that tails slightly in and then mows them down with a splitter that has a wicked tail down and outside. He is going to dominate in the MLB until his elbow explodes throwing 92 mph splitters that tail that hard.

In some of the most ridiculous voting you'll ever see Cal Women' basketball coach Charmin Smith finished third in ACC coach of the year voting. Finishing ahead of her were Notre Dame's coach whose team was picked for first but finished second and NC State's coach whose team was tabbed for second and won the conference. The Bears were predicted to place 14th and finished 7th with twice as many wins as losses in their first year of ACC play. And by the way, Charmin finished a very distant third. Absurd. https://theacc.com/news/2025/3/4/acc-womens-basketball-announces-2024-25-award-winners.aspx

Provincialism, plain and simple.

Any school west of the Mississippi could only be interlopers, plain and simple. And they may be right. But it goes much deeper than that. This is still looking at the new schools as newbies and outsiders, all the same.

Winning conferences, or coming very close to it, even when reasonable expectations were to do so, is generally valued better than significant improvement when there is still a significant ways to go. And across sports and levels, and has been the case for years. This is about what you would expect if the actual identities were masked, and only the finishes/records were considered.

One of the buildings on the list of government buildings to be sold is down the street from me. It houses the State Department Bureau of Diplomatic Security. It was bought by the U.S. in 2017. Wonder who was President then.

Also, I read that Mike Johnson’s chief of staff was arrested for dui within an hour of the speech last night.

It could be reasonably argued that Cal and Stanford will actually have a P4 conference to be in for the next several years, vs having to descend into a G6+/"mid-major" had the ACC shattered into oblivion as the Pac did should we get to a P3 scenario, making them relative winners compared to the alternative.

It's basically set up for another major realignment around 2030, which pretty much everyone thinks is coming. Cal needs to make its case to remain in the big leagues by then.

That's when the key contracts come up, which will trigger at least evaluation of major moves. This settlement makes it likely the ACC survives at least until then, though it will also be easier at that time for it to experience a Pac-like shift.
