STANFORD – The California women's tennis team captured its fifth consecutive victory Saturday when freshman Sophie Hernandez earned the first clinching win of her career in a 4-3 result over No. 27 Stanford at Taube Pavilion. The match was Cal's first at the new Cardinal facility.

Virginia scored six times with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, but the Golden Bears were within one strike of a victory before a hit batsmen and back-to-back two-RBI doubles by Chone James and Walker Buchanan. Both were hitting as pinch hitters for the second time in the inning as the Cavaliers sent 12 batters the plate in the frame.
BERKELEY – California rugby struck early against Army to take a lead the Golden Bears would never relinquish en route to capturing a 24-19 victory on Homecoming in Berkeley. The Bears scored four tries by as many players in front of a packed Witter Rugby Field on Saturday afternoon.
STANFORD – California men's gymnastics closed out its regular season Saturday with one last meet at No. 2 Stanford, sharing the floor with the Cardinal for the fifth time this year. The Golden Bears finished just .100 away from their season-best team score for a very solid outing as Stanford came out on top, 324.350-313.200.
MANHATTAN BEACH – The No. 7 California beach volleyball team split its final two duals of the East Meets West Invitational Saturday in Manhattan Beach against a pair of future conference opponents. The Golden Bears swept No. 11 LSU 5-0 to start the day but were defeated by No. 12 Texas 3-2 to end the weekend.
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – California track & field's Seth Johnson finished up competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, claiming his first All-America nod after placing 15th in the heptathlon with 5441 points. Johnson's total was the highest by a Golden Bear at the NCAA Indoor Championships since Mike Morrison's 5872 in 2011.
