isnt this the beach where they meet up at the end of Shawshank Redemption ??

Yes. At least, that's what was in the movie. In the book, it's different.

We dye eggs the day before and start the day with treat baskets and an egg hunt. Then we usually spend a good amount of time outside: this year we went to an Orioles game where a special guest showed up (and received an enthusiastic response on the jumbotron): https://www.instagram.com/p/C5MPphWu4Q-/?utm_source=ig_embed

We used to do egg dying, little baskets of treats, and ham. Now that we are empty nesters, those things have all gone away.

same. we used to make up a multi-clue scavenger hunt for the kids where they would eventually find one or two big presents. it was fun when they were < 10 yrs old and had to look all over the house for the next clue, etc etc ..

last year i was being a little lazy (and funny) and the kids are not little kids anymore so i came up w/ this abbreviated scavenger hunt.

Still color some eggs and eat some chocolate eggs. No reason at all for that tradition to end.

I'm a HUGE fan of UNC BB. Back in the early 80s, the only MBB game on TV was Sat morning, and the only teams that played were UNC, fUCLA, Indiana, and ND I think. So somehow I chose UNC around 81 or so.

Go Heels! Thoughts on Caddeau and Trimble spending so much time on the bench for the second half of the Alabama game?

Expand full comment

My big thing in the middle of the 2nd was that Wojick was getting destroyed by Nelson when switching. Yeah he has a threat of an outside shot, but Trimble has proven to be a much better defender, and he can shot when he's all squared to the basket and can drive. I would've rather played him tham Wojick. Cadeau runs the O better than when RJ tries to go 1 on 1 on a pick. He tried to play too much hero ball and draw the foul. I think that's on the relative inexperience of Hubert Davis.

Disappointed, but I had them beating Arizona (more for the matchup with Caleb) and then losing the U Conn. I don't see anyone being U Conn.

Expand full comment

Overall the team still played with a short bench, but I think they played about as well as they can with the limited bench. I hope Jalen Washington doesn't leave but I think without Bacot he's the started next year. He's more an outside threat and less a banger inside. I wonder if RJ Davis will leave or stay. With NIL, just like Bacot, he can make probably just as much staying as playing overseas.

Yes, lots. I'm a lifelong fan of Columbia football (imagine Cal and Columbia being your favorite college football programs). My mother did her graduate work there and my favorite writers went there (Kerouac and Ginsberg). The Lions most famous victory was over Furd in the 1934 Rose Bowl, 7-0.

TIL: Columbia is at 116th and Broadway. The football stadium is on 218th. It's a 10 minute walk to the 110th street entrance, take the northbound 1 and exit at 215th street exit and then walk 8 minutes. All things considered, that's pretty convenient for Manhattan.

The 3-point line at Moda Center (Portland OR) were mismatched for an Elite Eight game. And not by just a little. Both coaches knew, but one player claimed that they weren't told of the difference. NC State won by 10 and now both their women's and men's BB teams are in their respective Final Fours.

I continue to despise John Fisher, Rob Manfred, and all the owners for voting to allow the A's to move to Slots Vegas.

I will always carry my fandom, but it effectively stopped when Vegas became the primary target last year. Ironically, that was on our 37th wedding anniversary.

The winning blow came from Max Muncy, with a two-run no-doubter home run by Max Muncy in the eighth inning, giving the Dodgers their first lead of the game.
