Welcome to the DBD, a W4C community board where one can talk about pretty much anything, like…
The Robin character was originally created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson, to serve as a junior counterpart and the sidekick to the superhero Batman. As a team, Batman and Robin have commonly been referred to as the Caped Crusaders and the Dynamic Duo. The character's first incarnation, Dick Grayson, debuted in Detective Comics #38 (April 1940). Conceived as a way to attract young readers, Robin garnered an overwhelmingly positive critical reception, doubling the sales of the Batman titles.
watched Orsen Welles "Touch of Evil" yesterday - the tracking shots, camera angles, zooms and creative filmmaking techniques were awe inspiring - but the plot was super convoluted and difficult to follow.
sorta. Saw Dungeon's and Dragons: Honor among Thieves yesterday. Very entertaining. Even if not a D&D nerd (which I am not), doesn't take away from the good action adventure of it. And the production refrains from to much 'try hard to make spectacle' that this genre of film can get into.
I remember watching the old Superfriends cartoons Sat morning growing up. I watched the first few batman movies late 80s early 90s but haven't watched any of the recent movies, except for the Heath Ledger Joker one. The only other one I watched was Aquaman.
I was an extra in a movie they filmed on campus and was fortunate enough to have been picked to sit right next to him!! It was so fun….I got to chat with him for like 4 hours while we filmed. It was the day after he won the Best Supporting Actor for Good Will Hunting…we had some good laughs. A real Chitwood highlight!
I remember in Batman Forever, the one with Val Kilmer as Batman and Chris O'Donnell as Robin, they included an easter egg of Robin and his "Holey ..." lines from the TV shows.
They landed on Claw Island.
Robin: Holey rusted metal, Batman!
Batman: Huh?
Robin: The ground, it's all metal. It's full of holes. You know, holey.
My entirely ignorant speculation is that it will turn out to be hush money to many people for numerous things and the the money, rather than being a simple campaign finance violation, will turn out to involve all manner of money laundering of Ruskie drug money.
Mavs are thinking of shutting Luka and Kyrie down. They're 1 game out of the play-in game but lose the tiebreaker to OKC. What a bad trade. They're going to lose Dinwiddie, DFS, and 3 draft picks and probably not extend Kyrie. Luka said it hasn't been fun playing BB which probably means he doesn't like playing with Kyrie.
The San Francisco Giants achieved 100% efficiency today by maximizing their talents in a wonderful bounce back game after a tough weekend in New York. Facing the Chicago White Sox in their home opener, they hit seven (7) home runs, including a grand slam in the 9th inning. The lineup was built to go long and hard and it did exactly that.
Giants almost went back to back to back to back to back. In the middle, Joc hit a FB to deep right field. So it just ended up back to back, Joc flyout, back to back.
The rollercoaster Dodgers offense was on the upswing on Monday night, especially so in a seven-run fifth inning in a 13-4 win over the Rockies at Dodger Stadium.
All seven runs in the fifth came after two outs. The Dodgers hit for the cycle in the inning, including a double by Freddie Freeman and a triple by James Outman. J.D. Martinez greeted reliever Jake Bird with a near grand slam down the right field line on the first pitch, which was called foul and upheld upon review.
Martinez settled for a two-run single to tie the game, then three batters later Jason Heyward hit a two-run shot to right field to cap the scoring, the seventh consecutive Dodger to reach base (and score) in the inning.
The A’s kicked off the final series of their inaugural homestand tonight against the Cleveland Guardians at a cold and windy Oakland Coliseum. The Guardians (3-1) sent righty Zach Plesac to the mound, while righty James Kaprielian got the start for the Athletics (1-2).
The Guardians jumped on “Kap” early when Steven Kwan, a nearby Fremont native, doubled, Jose Ramirez walked, and Josh Naylor singled to center scoring Kwan. Andres Gimenez then doubled to right field scoring Ramirez.
Jace Peterson got things started for the A’s with a walk. Seth Brown moved him to third with a sky-high pop up that fell between three Guardian defenders. Conner Capel then drove in the first run of the night with an infield single to the second baseman. At the end of the first inning the score was 2-1, Guardians.
BERKELEY – Entering tonight's midweek game Cal baseball head coach Mike Neu knew he was short on pitchers. Andres Galan gave him just what the Golden Bears needed, a five-hit quality start as Cal defeated visiting Pacific 5-4 on Monday night at Stu Gordon Stadium.
Cal (12-12) had just enough offense to get back into the win column, scoring five runs on eight hits. However, it was the Bears' pitching led by Andres Galan's (1-1) career night that was the difference. Galan's previous best for innings pitched was 2.2 at Arizona on March 10. Tonight, he went six complete, scattering five hits, three runs (one earned) with a walk, and four strikeouts to earn his first career victory.
SEATTLE – Although California men's gymnastics has a week off before its final appearance of the season, the team still has reason to celebrate as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) released its All-MPSF list for the first time in history on Monday. Six Golden Bears earned all-conference honors to boost their résumés heading into next weekend's NCAA Championships.
Each member of the list either led hissquad in each event at last weekend's MPSF Championships or collected the next-highest overall score.
Freshman Khalen Curry led the way for Cal in two events – floor and vault – becoming one of seven gymnasts to earn multiple All-MPSF honors. His floor score of 13.700 last Saturday was a personal best, while he previously set a program record (now No. 3) on vault with a score of 14.700 in February.
PITTSBURGH, Penn.- In an absolute whirlwind of events, the No. 7 California gymnastics team took first place at the Pittsburgh Regional with its highest road and postseason score in school history. The Golden Bears tallied a 198.075, which is the highest score by any team in an NCAA Regional Final this season. They now advance to the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in program history.
No. 2 Florida (197.800) took second place and will join Cal at Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas from April 13-15. No. 10 Michigan State (197.650) and No. 15 Arizona State (197.475) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Cal trailed for the entirety of the meet, but this year's team has made a habit of completely rewriting the record book on a weekly basis. This week was no different as the Bears used that ability to move up in the standings after every rotation until they stood alone at the top following their final event.
Hitting 198 (again!) bodes well for the team - last season's National Championship score was 198.2. We've hit 198.1+ twice this season . . . so it's within us to do well. We have to clean up some vault stuff - but we're super strong on floor and beam.
BERKELEY- After an incredible outing at the Mustang Invitational this past weekend, Ainsley Radell and Ashley Delgado of the No. 9 California beach volleyball team were named the AVCA/CBVB Pair of the Week, the organization announced Monday.
The captain duo became the first Golden Bear pair to earn the national honor after leading the team to a 4-0 record and posting a 4-0 record of its own. On the season the two boast a 16-4 overall record and have won six-straight matches.
SAN FRANCISCO – California infielder Elon Butler has been named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after a standout weekend during the Golden Bears' series victory over No. 24 Utah.
Butler hit two home runs in Cal's series-clinching win over the Utes on Sunday, a 3-run shot in the third and a solo homer in the sixth that turned out to be the game-winner in a 5-4 victory. The San Jose, California, native hit .500 for the series after recording two hits with a double and an RBI in Friday's game.
Playing in multiple positions defensively, Butler has been a lineup mainstay all season and recorded eight putouts with seven assists at second base in the weekend series against Utah. She is currently hitting .272 with six home runs and is fourth on the team with 18 RBI.
Felt a noticeable quake here in downtown Oakland near Chinatown (or is that on the edge of Chinatown near downtown Oakland? I digress...).
USGS says it was a M4.6, 2 km N of Tres Pinos (not far from Hollister).
EDIT: downgraded by USGS to M4.5.
DBD Lunch
Oh man crazy day, but leftover chicken salad sandwich? (my wife made the chicken salad, and it got warmish) was super awesome.
a good chicken salad is one of my favorites
Pulled pork, cole slaw, special sauce and manchego cheese on a sourdough roll.

Superfriends
I remember watching the old Superfriends cartoons Sat morning growing up. I watched the first few batman movies late 80s early 90s but haven't watched any of the recent movies, except for the Heath Ledger Joker one. The only other one I watched was Aquaman.
I love knowing that one of the narrator voices for Superfriends was none other than Ted Knight: "Meanwhile, back at the Hall of Justice"
one of the best cartoons from my childhood. i make jokes about the Wonder Twins quite often and no one else seems to know what i am talking about.
the bad guys in the Legion of Doom were well done also. very colorful characters that had a natural nemesis in one of the Superfriends.
Wonder twin powers activate, shape of... an ice sled.
I think the Bizarro Jerry episode came from the Bizzaro Superfriends episodes since Seinfeld is such a huge Superman fan.
Could be, but you know, Bizarro himself predated Superfriends by several years.
Robin

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/04/04/press-public-await-donald-trump-arraignment-00090318
I have been avoiding the news. Lots of coverage but no one really know any facts, so just lots of people speculating and spinning.
I wish there was a perp walk.
Leaked: 42 felony counts
Actually 34 counts....
Oh, goody...! That suggests this is much more than just hush money payments.
My entirely ignorant speculation is that it will turn out to be hush money to many people for numerous things and the the money, rather than being a simple campaign finance violation, will turn out to involve all manner of money laundering of Ruskie drug money.

I'm first again so I'll start the day with this: The University of California is the greatest public institute of higher education in the world.
And we have the axe!
And have, according to Knowlton, for several years.
