IT'S TIME FOR ONE-TIME EPISODE OF OSKI DISCIPLE GOES ON A TIRADE
I've noticed lately there is an increasing number of -- for lack of a better word -- stupid comments on the main board, particularly when the state of football and athletics in general are being discussed. I don't care if someone says that Wilcox is the next Andy Smith or if they say that he is worse than Holmoe. What I object to is the total disregard for empirical fact or the twisting of facts or the making up of facts. The comments section on many posts has been looking like the worst of Bear Insider. I've reached the point where I'm trying to skim comments because there are still some worth reading but we seem to have a lot of bozos on the board or at least people who are posting emotionally and not intelligently. Thankfully DBD has not been infected by this rash of ill-conceived comments and remains a safe haven for intelligent, witty discourse (myself excluded).
you mean emotional reactions that have no logic or reasonable thought put into them isn't your thing? The absurdity of the recent dramatic overreactions just makes me shake my head. Put your meerkat head up and look around, folks. Cal looks just like a ton of other schools right now and better than many
STANFORD – The California softball team (30-16, 7-11 ACC) defeated No. 15/16 Stanford (32-9, 11-7 ACC), 10-8, in front of a NCAA record-setting crowd of 13,207 fans on Saturday at Stanford Stadium.
Cal Rugby makes it to the national champsionship on May 3rd against Life's so-called "college" team. Rugby is much more even this season than, say, a decade ago. Where previously the top three teams were head and shoulders better than anyone else and were a foregone conclusion to make the quarterfinals - the top 16 could absolutely upset the top teams and it is an absolute dog fight within the top 8. Life will probably be favored.
Life is a chiropractic college. I feel like they've had a very strong rugby 7's program for at least as long as Cal has been playing 7's. This is the first I recall them having a strong 15's team.
They have always had a strong 15s over their short history. They started playing in 2011, reaching the quarterfinals in their inaugural season. They then won a national championship in 2013 and then again in 2016 and back to back over Cal in 2018 and 2019. That's one rugby natty for Cal since 2011 and four for Life.
Senior Garrett MacQuiddy capped off an eventful day for the California track & field team Friday evening by setting the school record in the 1500m with a time of 3:38.50 at the Bryan Clay Invitational.MacQuiddy, who finished fourth in his section, broke the previous program standard of 3:39.43 set by alumnus Thomas Joyce in 2015
STANFORD- The No. 9 California beach volleyball team closed out the regular season with a pair of sweeps over Santa Clara and UC Davis on Saturday at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Dozens of the nation's finest gymnasts crowded into the Crisler Center on Saturday, ready to give their best for a raucous crowd and for each other as the "Super Six" teams – Nebraska, Oklahoma, Penn State, Michigan, Stanford and Illinois – took aim at the national championship
WALNUT – The California track & field team finished up three days of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday, posting three more program top-10 marks and several personal bests at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
BERKELEY – The west region No. 1 California rugby team defeated No. 2 Saint Mary's Saturday afternoon at a sold-out Witter Rugby Field in the 2025 D1A National Collegiate Championship semifinals to punch its ticket to the title match. The Golden Bears will head to Indianapolis on May 3 to take on east region No. 1 Life University in the national championship.
BERKELEY – NC State (27-12, 12-6 ACC) closed out a three-game ACC series sweep of the California baseball team (18-21, 6-15 ACC) with a 5-2 victory over the Golden Bears on Saturday at Stu Gordon Stadium.
STANFORD- The No. 9 California beach volleyball team split its Friday duals to star the Stanford Invite in Stanford, CA. The Golden Bears (23-7) blanked No. 19 Washington for their program-record 12th straight win before falling to No. 3 Stanford 4-1.
BERKELEY– The California baseball team (18-20, 6-14 ACC) jumped out to six-run lead after four innings before NC State (26-12, 11-6 ACC) scored the game's final seven runs in a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over the Golden Bears on Friday evening at Stu Gordon Stadium in the second game of an ACC series. Brayden Fraasman (1-5, R, HR, RBI) homererd down the left field line in the top of the seventh off losing pitcher Cole Tremain (4-4) to provide the winning Wolf Pack run.
BERKELEY – The No. 5 California women's water polo team overcame an early deficit to stake a halftime lead but ultimately fell to No. 2 Stanford 12-8 in the annual Big Splash on Friday evening to wrap up the regular season.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The California women's golf team shook up the ACC on Friday, knocking off No. 11 Virginia 3-2 in the first round of match play of the ACC Championship before ultimately falling to No. 3 Florida State 3-0 in the semifinals.
CARY, N.C. – The 10th-ranked and fourth-seeded California men's tennis team saw a familiar opponent in its first appearance in the ACC Championship, as sixth-ranked and fifth-seeded Virginia stood between the Golden Bears and a berth in the conference tournament semifinals. In the teams' first meeting of the year, Cal defeated the Cavaliers 4-3 in Charlottesville, Virginia, during the regular season. But this time the Bears fell 4-2 in Cary Tennis Park.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The California men's gymnastics team posted a season-high 319.091 points in the qualifying round of the NCAA Championships at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Friday morning and qualified seven gymnasts for Saturday's championship round. The team total beat the Golden Bears' previous season best of 315.450, which was set at this year's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, and placed the Bears fourth overall in Friday's session.
CARY, N.C. – In a rematch of their regular-season contest, the 20th-ranked California women's tennis team fell to seventh-ranked Virginia in a tightly contested 4-0 quarterfinal match in the ACC Championship on Friday at Cary Tennis Park.
The Golden Bears – who defeated the Cavaliers 4-1 on March 21 on the road – ended their conference tournament run with a 13-8 record. The Cavaliers (19-4) advanced to the semifinals.
Giants go with Austin Wynns after trading Joey Bart. Wynns doesn't work out, so he bounces around the league and ends up going to the Reds and gets almost as many RBIs yesterday in a single game as his entire Giants career. Also, Joey Bart is doing well now that he's out of SF.
At first when I looked at the play I thought definite error on the 1B. But I didn't notice that the batter would beaten Fried to the base, so yes a hit.
They're going to need to put in taller foul poles there.
The A’s got punched in the mouth on Sunday afternoon, getting walloped by the Milwaukee Brewers 14-1 in the series finale as the road trip comes to an end on a losing note.
Starting for the A’s today was lefty Jeffrey Springs. Making his fourth start of the season Springs got hit hard in the first inning, continuing a trend for Springs here in 2025. A pair of errors from battery mate Shea Langeliers didn’t make things any easier for Springs but the left-hander was struggling out of the gate, which is becoming a common theme for him. Springs allowed another run in the second inning and another in the third off a home run. His day would come to an early end as he would ultimately fall to 3-2 in his A’s career.
Mets sweep the Cardinals. Lindor, Soto both did their part.
went to this game on Sun afternoon. gorgeous sunny afternoon, perfect for spring baseball. a little light on attendance since it was Easter Sunday.
Lindor hits a solo HR in the leadoff spot and that got the party started. eventually the Cards tied it up 3-3 in the 7th and the Mets had to find some more runs to win.
Scoring was at a premium all weekend at Globe Life Field, and Sunday was no exception. It took until the eighth inning for the first run of the series finale, and it was scored on an out. Freddie Freeman’s sacrifice fly against old friend Chris Martin plated Will Smith to give the Dodgers a 1-0 win over the Rangers.
Ws build early lead (23 pts), squander lead (down to 3) and manage to play solid at the end to preserve the win and go up 1-0 on Rockets in playoff series.
either Ws defense was really good, or the Rockets young players just struggled to score. should be a good series.
For any Rockets fan, this was the worst nightmare of proving every doubt about their postseason chances right: young team that turns it over too much and not a good enough half-court offense to generate points in the clutch. They probably won't shoot this badly every time, but . . . yikes!
Kerr was right. As long as the Warriors don't try to push up the court too much and use 2 hands to grab rebounds, they'll be alright. A lot of the Rockets comeback was due to not using 2 hands to grab rebounds (looking at you Buddy) and forcing the fast break (looking at you Buddy). But it wasn't just Buddy. When Steph isn't in the game and they have non-shooters, their O grinds to a halt.
The Houston Rockets have one of the NBA’s most stifling defenses. In Game 1 of their first-round series, the Golden State Warriors proved they’re not too shabby on the defensive end themselves.
Steph Curry scored 31 points and made five three-pointers as the Warriors took back home-court advantage with a 95-85 win over the Rockets, holding Houston to their lowest point total of the season. The Rockets cut a 23-point Warriors lead all the way down to three points late, but Curry hit a long three to give the Warriors some breathing room.
and Steph hit some of the most ridiculous falling over backwards or sideways 3 pointers that you will ever see. it is somewhat acceptable that anyone might hit 1 of those during a game just from dumb luck. Steph hit at least 3 of those!

Immigration officials - hellbent on destroying the US tourism industry - detained, strip-searched, jailed overnight, and deported two teenage German tourists to [checks notes]... Japan... for the non-crime of not having hotels booked in Hawaii.
the only even-handed thing about immigration officials in this administration is that they feel comfortable using the rules against every foreigner including white Europeans.
[NBC] Trump has drafted an Executive Order that withdraws the US embassies from Sub-Saharan Africa - presumably eliminating any soft power we have their and leaving it to the Russians, Chinese, and local warring parties.
Def Sec Hesgeth apparently shared plans to bomb Houthis in another Signal group chat, which included his wife and brother. The White House continues to say that military plans before they happen are not top secret. What are you going to believe: what we tell you or your own eyes/ears/simple logic?
I have an immigration lawyer friend who now travels with a burner phone and a laptop. She says that she knows of 20 other immigration lawyers personally - not ones you've heard of in the news - who have had traveled and had their phones and laptops seized. The Feds are going through them to get their contacts so they can find, abduct, and imprison their clients. This destroys attorney/client priviledge and is so facsist that I can't even beging to describe how wrong that is to the rule of law. She now travels with a burner phone and laptop - something that the Feds can seize as a red herring. She doesn't even work with illegal immigrants - mostly rich, educated folks who want in white collar jobs. Apparently, the Doge team has gotten the list of everyone who has ever filed an immigration form. Often it is the immigrant themselves. But often, it is a lawyer. This is why you're seeing a bunch "please self deport" letters to immigration lawyers. It is also the nexus of how they're going after immigrants.
What's a little law-breaking about federal data use among friends (the sort of friends who hate immigrants so much they want them all out, not just the ones without official permission to live in the US).
The Diplomat (S2, 18/19 WB, Netflix). Almost everyone on this show does an absolutely fantastic acting job. Projecting power and sometimes allowing you to peek into their flawed personalities. It's a good script and written for adults in that it expects you to keep up a la West Wing. Season 2 is much shorter than Season 1 and not quite as good, but it has plenty of "oh wow" moments. Highly recommend.
The Residence has probably been discussed in this forum previously. It came out on Netflix on March 20.
Mrs Slug and I binged episodes 1 through 6 yesterday while lounging about in jammies. I finished the mini-series by watching episodes 7 and 8 while Mrs Slug was napping. I had to take an oath not to tell her whodunnit.
It is bingeworthy. And no, my guess was not the culprit, but the clues were there.
EDIT 1: Near the end of the series, there was a scene in which a character was on a train like the Steam Trains in Tilden Park. Only that on the side of the coal car were the initials L. A. L. S. R. M., which stands for Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum. It was a kind of weird moment for me in the context of the series. That is all.
EDIT 2: I might just have to go back to the Steam Trains just to ride it, again. I would like a ride through the redwoods, again.

Then don't read comments in Nick Kranz's piece this morning. Too much ish.
I have't read it yet but saw the first couple of sentences. Expecting the worst in the comments.

He talked briefly with the press at the Easter egg roll. Lots of complaints but I never heard him say it didn’t happen.
In Hesgeth's defense at the end of his texts he adds: "mum's the word."
Also, "Bless their hearts"
Pope Francis has died. He was 88 years old and was the Pope for 12 years,
I don’t know, so shortly after a brief meeting with Vance.
Very strange timing.
TIme for Vance to visit Putin.
Hello fascism.

Highly recommend.
i am few episodes behind. this is currently my favorite show on TV.
Apropos, Jonathan Pryce was the perfect person to play Pope Francis
