CB for Cal. In the depth chart for 3 years, appearing in four games with three tackles. He transferred to East LA CC where he had 40 tackles/5 INTs and then Utah State for his final season where he didn't play.
Two year JUCO player at East LA CC as an offensive tackle. Went to Cal for one season and was buried in the depth chart with no appearances in the 2023 season. After the spring game 2024, he announced he was portaling - committing to Texas State a month later. In December 2024, he announced he was still available, so is apparently at risk of having his D1 football journey ending.
This was the four-star QB recruit whose high-school coach left him in a football game despite leading 86-0 (10 TD throws) in the first half and started the second half to throw three more. He committed to Cal in 2022 - hyped us up and then flipped to UCLA. He redshirted for a year. The next year, he was fourth on the depth chart behind Dante Moore, Ethan Garbers, and Collin Schlee. The year after that he moved up to second string after Moore and Schlee both portaled, starting one game after Garbers got hurt. Had he stayed at Cal, he would have earned the starting job as Sam Jackson flamed out, Ben Finley over-played his hand, and probably would have started in front of freshman Fernando Mendoza. Martin portaled and is now at Maryland.

Berkeley has a middle school (originally a junior high school) named for Rev. Dr. King.
BTW, did you know that Berkeley Unified School District pioneered the junior high school concept, grades 7 & 8? Willard Jr. High was the first such school. Garfield Jr. High, named for President James A. Garfield followed. My dad attended Garfield Jr. High. I attended junior high in the same building, only it was renamed Martin Luther King, Jr., Junior High School.
My junior high was 7 and 8 grade but it seems like most school districts are moving away from junior high concept to the middle school for grades 6, 7, 8. Does anyone know why school districts are doing this?
I don't know why the term Junior High would fall out of favor to be superseded or replaced by middle school. "Middle school" has been around almost as long "Junior High", maybe longer.
At least in Berkeley, the change to Middle School also included a grade configuration change. Junior High was grades 7 and 8. Middle School is grades 6, 7, and 8.
Being a Berkeley native of a certain age, it will always be Grove St. in my mind, though I have thoroughly banished it from my speech in favor of MLK Way or sometime when lazy and a wee bit saucy, "the Milky Way".
I seem to remember in the 80s and maybe 90s the hightop versions were a sign you were a skinhead. Though maybe I'm remember the incorrect shoe. Recently it seems like it's just a popular teen/20s shoe.
I am having leftover Moroccan lamb tagine. There is no single "right" version - but this is close to the version that I make. Lamb gives it a gamey-funkiness that has savory and umami. Apricots offer sweetness to offset the gaminess. Chickpeas give the sauce texture and substance. And Ras El Hanout is warm, delicious, and isn't easily recognizable - apart from a welcoming cinnamon flavor. I make it in a slow cooker and it makes the house smell delicious.
I am in currently on this culinary journey of exploring dishes that liberally use warm spices. Think Hungarian, Caribbean, African. I want to make dishes that have a spice masalas that are frickin' scrumptious, don't have flavor profiles easily found in the US, and without people saying "that's a curry".
I have guests flying in from Austin tonight. I'm making a broiled salmon w/ miso/yuzu paste on top. Sides are roasted garlic potatoes, balsamic brussel sprouts, sauteed zuccinni w/ Portuguese sofrito, roasted mushrooms later sautéed in butter, braised asparagus tips in chicken consommé, and a mixed salad with... honestly, Hidden Valley Italian vinaigrette from a powder package but just using good oil & vinegar. Ranch Water is being served as a social lubricant.
My flight from ATL to CDG through EWR was delayed 4 hours so I would've missed my connection. Luckily the previous flight was delayed about 4 hours and ended up leaving at the same time my original flight was going to leave, so no issues. Was worried there for a long while. I kept checking the history of the flights over the week before. I asked the person at the checkin counter about a different flight through ORD but she said she didn't want to have to worry about ORD and saw that there were seats on the previous delayed flight.
The burger joint debuted in 2002 as a secret venue inside the former Le Parker Meridien hotel (which has been transformed into the luxurious Thompson Central Park), and soon became a worldwide sensation. Hidden behind a floor-to-ceiling Wizard of Oz velvet red curtain in a hotel's lobby, a neon burger sign is all that denotes what lies beyond.
The burger joint was the first to start the burger craze.
I remember that place. I stayed at that hotel - cheap, super dark, orange highlights were very cool. And that black curtain. I went back there and was like... how much for a burger, GTF out of here. Little did I know that I passed up the supposed best burger in the world.

The A’s arrived in Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers on Tuesday evening and started their road trip strong, beating their California rivals in a convincing 11-1 rout against the reigning World Series champions.
Los Angeles entered this series with the best record in baseball at 27-14. Left-hander Jeffrey Springs drew the start for the first game of the series, a tough task for any pitcher going up against this Dodgers lineup. He had put together back-to-back quality starts after struggling for most of April so the hope was that he could keep that roll going.
It’s impossible to draw up the blueprint for the perfect win for the moment. Impossible, yes, because you can’t script a baseball game (or at least you can’t expect it to follow the script; by all means, write away). But also impossible because, in order to arrive at the perfect win for the moment, you must at least stop for gas in Badlossland, or maybe grab a burger at Ohno Hill, or perhaps take a pee break at Shitsville.
D-Backs walked Heliot Ramos to get to Jung-Hoo Lee late in the game, and Lee promptly parked a home run on the right-field landing to send his fans (on Korean Heritage Night) into a frenzy.
No longer the punching bag of recent years, for a lack of a better word, an intriguing Athletics team came to Dodger Stadium and properly introduced itself by smashing the NL West leaders in an 11-1 victory on Tuesday. With this win, the A’s further improved their impressive road record to 14-7, the best one in all of baseball.
Landon Knack made some solid starts this season, however, they came against offenses that don’t cause much of a scare, particularly in the Marlins and Rockies. Well, the Athletics aren’t exactly a powerhouse, but they’re a significant improvement over those other two, and they showed as much, punishing Knack for five runs in this one.
RENO, Nev. – The California men's golf team ended the second day of the 2025 NCAA Reno Regional in fifth place at 9-over-par after completing the remainder of round one and playing an impeccable first 13-14 holes of round two at Montreux Golf & Country Club.
After finishing the first round – which resumed at noon PT Tuesday after high winds limited play to roughly just two hours Monday – in 12th place with a 20-over-par 308, the Golden Bears skyrocketed seven spots up the leaderboard by shooting 11-under-par collectively through the first 75% of the second round before play was suspended due to darkness at 8 p.m. PT.
Per Google AI, “Increased bear activity, especially in areas like Southwest Reno, is prompting residents to be more bear-wise and secure their trash.” The bear population is said to be growing at a 5% annual rate in the region. You know it, you tell that story, you tell the whole damn world this is Bear Territory.
END OF REGULAR SEASON - Cal closes its regular season by hosting a three-game ACC series against Boston College at Stu Gordon Stadium. The series will be played Thursday-Saturday instead of the customary Friday-Sunday to help allow for travel to the ACC Baseball Championship May 20-25 in Durham, N.C.
The California track & field team will kick off its outdoor postseason this week at the ACC Outdoor Championships, which will be contested from Thursday-Saturday at Wake Forest's Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Each day of competition will be aired on ACCNX.
Each day of the meet will start at 8 a.m. PT. The first Thursday event to feature a Golden Bear will be the men's javelin at 8 a.m. PT, while Cal's Friday slate begins at 9:30 a.m. PT (women's heptathlon) and its Saturday competition at 11 a.m. PT (men's discus, women's high jump).
For some, it doesn't mean much. But it's a motto that California outfielder Holly Medina embodies. Reminded every time she's in the batter's box and with every sip of water – with the initials AO1 written on her bat and water bottle – she is never concerned about the opinions of others nor needs their acceptance.

Watching MobLand. It is entertaining enough and just a lot of dumb fun.
Finished Andor Season 2 last and it was a masterpiece of story telling that just so happens to be set in a galaxy far, far away.
Despite knowing how this story ends for Andor and most characters, it was still a very emotional ending that was very well done.
