The San Francisco Giants took extreme measures Wednesday to respond to their two-week offensive slump. LaMonte Wade, Jr,. and Sam Huff were designated for assignment and the team added first baseman Dominic Smith and outfielder Daniel Johnson directly into the starting lineup, along with new backup catcher Andrew Knizner. The result? The team erased a five-run deficit, scoring more than five runs for the first time in 19 days in a 6-5 victory.
KALISPELL, Mont. -- Competing in his first-ever knockout round, Cam Bufford started off on the wrong foot, grounding his first two swings to the left side of the infield. So, with some guidance from assistant coach James Harris tossing the ball to him, he calmed down and took a few pitches to reset.
Another day, another loss. The A’s dropped their ninth straight game on a warm Wednesday night in Sacramento, falling to the Twins for the third straight time 6-1 and now face the prospect of getting swept in a four-game series at home. No bueno.
The Dodgers were outclassed by Mets pitching on Wednesday night, as they dropped the penultimate match of this four game set by a final score of 6-0.
The Mets were greeted with a hit by pitch from Tony Gonsolin to Francisco Lindor, followed by a fielding error from Kiké Hernández to put runners at the corners with nobody out. Juan Soto drove in the game’s first run on a ground out before Pete Alonso teed off on the first pitch he saw the other way for a two-run home run to push the Mets’ lead to three.
Dodgers had just 1 bad inning until the low leverage reliever gave up 3 in the 8th. And really in the first inning, it was a HBP to Lindor leading off, then Kiké booted a double play ball, and the 3rd batter got out. So really should've been no runs. The more concerning part is that the Dodgers couldn't hit the breaking pitches. Once Canning got out of the 1st and started throwing more breaking pitches, Dodgers couldn't touch him. That's been a theme all season. Slow throwing Ryan Yarbrough shut then down.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Recent Cal graduate Dare Rose earned his first national championship of the meet in the 50-meter butterfly at the 2025 Toyota National Championship in Indianapolis, Indiana.
After securing a second seed in the A-final this morning, Rose shaved .06 seconds off his preliminary time to earn a first-place finish in a time of 23.06 to secure a trip to Singapore for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships. It will be his fourth consecutive appearance at the world championships.
INDIANAPOLIS – Claire Weinstein is putting together quite a resume before ever setting foot on Cal's campus.
The incoming freshman won the USA Swimming national championship in the 200-meter freestyle on Wednesday night at the IU Natatorium, punching her ticket to the 2025 World Championships this summer in Singapore in her second event. The 2024 Olympic silver medalist previously qualified for Worlds in the 800-meter freestyle with a runner-up finish on Tuesday.
California Athletics has announced the addition of Oski's Village, a new pregame fan fest area for home football games this fall.
Oski's Village will be the premier pregame experience at Cal football games, bringing together Golden Bear fans of all ages. Admission is free and open to the public, but you can upgrade your experience by purchasing a Premium Hospitality Package available on a season and single game basis. Game tickets are not included.
BERKELEY – Dhiaukuei "DK" Manyiel Dut, a 7-foot-0 forward from Rumbek, South Sudan, has signed to play for the California men's basketball program in the 2025-26 season. Dut spent the past two seasons at Georgia State, including a redshirt year in 2023-24, and will have three years of eligibility upon arriving in Berkeley.

A firing squad may be less barbaric than lethal injection. There's plenty of evidence that lethal injection is anything but comfortable for the condemned as they often writhe in pain or strain against their restraints. And this goes on sometimes for extended periods, sometimes up to an hour.
At least with a firing squad the condemned often dies within 8 to 10 minutes as they bleed out. If the firing squad did a particularly good job, it doesn't take that long as the heart is obliterated by a fusillade of bullets.
Hanging probably has the highest likelihood of being quick and relatively painless. a proper drop based on the condemned's weight can snap the neck quickly and painlessly. Otherwise, they slowly strangle.
There is no guaranteed way that is painless and/or terrorless for a human to be put to death. Not even the guillotine. And when the Japanese apply capital punishment, terror is the point. The condemned is not given a date and time of execution. It's been said that prisoners in the Japanese justice system will be simply taken from their cell without notice and put to death.
Capital punishment is barbaric. We show ourselves to be cruel when we give any entity our imprimatur to kill in our name.

maybe fly into ABQ and drive to White Sands and then to PHX. there is also this on a full moon nights which we are trying to get the timing right. i would think they have it on "new moon" nights when you can see more stars. maybe the average person would just trip over something in the dark so full moon is better!
in grad school our balloon expt launched from Ft Sumner and they told is that if it drifted into Mexico, the Mexicans would shoot it down. and if it drifted into or over the White Sands Missile Range the Americans would shoot it down!

i have never been to Crater Lake and i hear it will be closed for a few years after this.
Crater Lake National Park's Cleetwood Cove Trail, the only permitted access to the lake, will be closed for construction from the summer of 2026 until the summer of 2029. This means swimming, boating, and hiking to the lake will not be possible during that time. The closure is due to a project to improve the trail and marina, including rockfall mitigation and replacing the dock,.

Beach or mountains?
Mountain lakes are the best.
or Mountain Lake beaches.
This is probably the best answer. Why not both?
(Unless you're into surfing, of course.)
Emerald Bay in Tahoe is a particularly nice spot for this
mountains 99 - beach 1
i like the beach just fine. i always enjoy my time there.
i LOVE the mountains. i am not religious but for me there is something spiritual about the mountains.
places still on my list .. Patagonia, Himalayas, North Cascades.
Yes.
Whichever the weather is better at.
