Saw Taylor Swift last night at SoFi.

Bonkers. Just, bonkers.

Never would've taken you for a Swiftie.

I appreciate talent….and am starved for it considering Wilcox can’t produce a single NFL-caliber player on Offense!! ;-)

And all the hot moms accompanying their daughters wouldn't have anything to do with it would it?

Given the comment below, ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT DCBLUE'S NIECE

Expand full comment

One of my nieces was there. She had a little one earlier this summer. She's always been a Swiftie so I'm guessing a night out of Taylor and a few hours respite from the baby put her in heaven.

Expand full comment

It was nuts. She started at 8:10, and played til about 11:30…only respites were the 3-5 minute breaks she took throughout to change her wardrobe.

I like and respect Taylor Swift - helluva performer and uber-talented. I knew maybe 1/3 of the 35-40 songs she played.

Can say without a doubt it was one of the most impressive performances I have ever seen. Just a magical escape to see the unbridled joy of 70,000 some-odd people all celebrating Cal’s potential move to the Atlantic Coast Conference, er, I mean a world-wide icon giving it all.

Wow, wow, that's all I can say.

And you didn't have to deal with bad weather. Beyonce at FedEx (Commander's) on Sunday and Pink last night at Nats Park both started late because of severe thunderstorms.

Expand full comment

Heavy rain and lightning delayed the start of one of Beyoncé's shows in suburban Washington, D.C. Her tour paid $100,000 to keep 98 D.C. metro stations open an extra hour, so fans could get home.

Athletics drop series opener to the Rangers 5-3 in Oakland

https://www.athleticsnation.com/2023/8/7/23824004/athletics-rangers-5-3-waldichuk-dunning

The Oakland Athletics faced the high-flying Texas Rangers today in the first game of a three-game series at the Oakland Coliseum. Both teams swept their opponents at home this weekend leading up to tonight’s game. The A’s took two straight from their across the bay rivals the Giants while the Rangers dominated the visiting Miami Marlins for a three-game sweep in Arlington.

The A’s sent lefty Ken Waldichuk (2-7, 6.52 ERA) to the mound to face the Rangers righty Dane Dunning (9-4, 3.14 ERA).

Giants blessed by Angels with a miracle 9th inning, win 8-3

Tonight, the San Francisco Giants faced a team that’s been struggling a lot worse than they have been since August 1st. A weekend in Oakland left me in a daze — did that really happen? Did they really lose two games to a team giving away wins? And here they were tonight facing an Angels team that’s 0-6 in August and just 11-11 in the second half.

But the Angels have Shohei Ohtani, which is better than what the A’s — or Giants — have.

Dodgers offense overwhelms Padres, lifts Tony Gonsolin

https://www.truebluela.com/2023/8/7/23823350/dodgers-offense-mookie-betts-tony-gonsolin-padres

There aren’t many obstacles this Dodgers offense can’t overcome. Monday was just another example, when an eight-run fourth inning and many more runs after that erased a nightmare inning by Tony Gonsolin in a 13-7 win over the Padres on Monday afternoon at Petco Park in San Diego.

Eight runs are the most scored in one inning by the Dodgers this season, one more than their fifth-inning tally on April 3 against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium.

That when life expectancies were in the 30-40 age range, people commonly tended to drop dead in their 30s. Rather, those expectancies reflect extremely high levels of infant and childhood mortality. If someone reached adulthood, they tended to live well past typical life expectancy into their 40s, 50s, or even 60s.

"The Crossways" appears twice. Once in the north between Middlefield Rd and Overlook Rd and in the south as a pedestrian path between The Uplands and Hillcrest Road.

It seems that "Bridge Road" between Tunnel Rd and Alvarado Rd used to be called "The Bridge Road" but apparently not anymore. I don't know what the story is there.

Expand full comment

I honestly don't know why that particular short block between Middlefield Rd and Overlook Rd is shown as The Crossways; it isn't named that at all. It's actually The Shortcut.

What Google Maps shows as The Shortcut between Walnut St. and Oxford St. is actually Oxford School Way; it is a footpath, not a street. I've been trying to get it corrected for at least 6 months now to no avail. It is listed as a path by Berkeley Path Wanderers Association (their Path List is at https://www.berkeleypaths.org/path-list).

HIV/AIDS used to be a rampant wildfire - a fairly quick death sentence - for many in sub-Saharan Africa. Medicinal advancement and the US government's PEPFAR program has helped organize help. The program has saved about 25 million lives at the cost of about $100 billion. GOP now wants to defund PEPFAR because the work often goes through health agencies - some of which do family planning and abortion - which the GOP doesn't like. If the GOP gets its way, millions of Africans may die.

CAL-BERKELEY ATHLETICS IS IN SEVERE DEBT AND ACC KICKING TIRES ON EXPANSION COULD BE GOLDEN BEARS’ SAVING GRACE

No public school in the country has more athletics debt than the University of California-Berkeley. It is operating significantly in the red, to the point that the university is paying back some of the athletic department’s debt to help ease the burden and make it look like it was operating in the green.

The Golden Bears’ monster debt, based on the 2021-2022 fiscal year report, totals $439,974,051. San Diego State is the next-closest school in terms of outstanding athletics debt at $332,247,260— nearly $120 million less.

, Cinnamon.

In the past, cinnamon in the US was Ceylon Cinnamon. With the rise of globalism, cinnamon is more commonly sourced from Cassia Cinnamon, which has a broader growing area. Ceylon and Cassia taste quite similar, so most people don't notice the difference. However, Cassia has higher levels of coumarin - a toxin. If you ate a teaspoon of cassia cinnamon a day, you would risk liver failure. Not sure what kind of cinnamon stick you have? Cassia has a thicker bark that stays intact and is a hard. Ceylon has thinner bark, is more brittle/fibrous. So next time you're buying cinnamon, read the label. Ceylon Cinnamon is also noticeably more expensive.
