Here in Pasadena the effects of both the tropical storm and the earthquake were felt very minimally.

Yeah, my Sister in Law has a near-by house! Crazy!

SGBear's avatar

That time you went horseback riding

Justbear's avatar

Probably when our family visited my father's friend who owned a ranch in Nebraska. That was some 20+ years ago. Can't remember if I rode after it

Cugel's avatar

Uh, never; not like my sister in England.

She was good riding as well!

My maternal grandparents farmed in Nebraska. When I was about four or five, we visited and a neighbor brought a couple of his horses over. I got thrown and that the last time I was on a horse.

Professor Henry Hill (Gary Conservatory of Music, '05) is famous for pioneering the "Think System" of musicology. Just ask anyone about his credentials.

ak_A_bear's avatar

Does he know his Bear Territory?

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Henry Hill was also Ray Liotta’s character in Goodfellas…

Something you used to eat but haven't in at least a decade

Berkelium97's avatar

Oatmeal. I always had it for breakfast when I was an undergrad because it was cheap, easy to make, and reasonably healthy. At some point I hit a wall and suddenly became sick of it.

dcblue's avatar

And I'm the flip side. Rarely used to eat it. But over the last year I've had a lot of dental work done and looking for more soft foods to eat. Oatmeal made it on to the menu.

SGBear's avatar

Cinnamon Toast.

The idea of having a butter & sugar encrusted toast doesn't really appeal to me anymore. Don't get me wrong - I'd gladly eat a cinnamon roll, which probably has gobs more sugar and butter in it.

Macarolina's avatar

cinnamon honey butter brought me back to cinnamon toast-- less gunk, way less sugar, still delicious.

I'll give you the reverse.

When I was a kid, I had a huge aversion to cashews because I thought I got really sick from them. Now, as an adult, I have cashews in trail mix almost every day as my mid-afternoon office snack.

I'd have to think about this... I'm pretty easy.

How are folks in SoCal handling the storm?

dcblue's avatar

Between the earthquake and the tropical storm I think God is expressing his displeasure with USC and UCLA. Isn't that how it works?

Great news. Thanks, C!

Some heavy rain but nothing out of the ordinary for what we've had this year, compared to the winter storms. The reports of high winds and gusts did not pan out in my area.

A crape myrtle tree in our yard did get pummeled and most of its branches were battered. So, never forget.

Justbear's avatar

I loved the rain. I didn't get a storm in orange county.

Spain's Olga Carmona had the best and worst day of her life at the World Cup final 1-0 win. Carmona netted a perfectly angled left-footer just inside England's right post in the 28th minute. She found out after the game that her father had died just before the game.

How to with John Wilson (HBO/Max) remains as delightfully weird, irreverent, and entertaining as ever. It's a comedic docuseries that takes some element of everyday life and starts tunneling down a very entertaining rabbit hole about it (occasionally with some surprising changes in direction). It's a good match for fans of Larry David-esque observational humor and/or anyone who wants to see some bizarre and hilarious b-roll footage filmed throughout NYC

There are lots of really fun TV shows to watch right now - watched a fun movie on Saturday - Rye Lane a Rom-Com my wife picked (I don't think she wants ANY of the dramas I pick) anyway, I quite enjoyed it as well, even though in real life I never cried when a woman broke up with me - well because that never happened to me at all.

Might actually work, the local drivers are not particularly aggressive (although of course my baseline here is Maryland and New Jersey, so it's possible I'm underestimating). We recently got a crosswalk converted to scramble at the end of a heavily commercial block and it's been a surprisingly big improvement.
