I am boosted but am not all up to date in my boosts…I am thinking I should go to CVS and get a more up-to-date shot…is there one I should ask for based on the latest variants, or will they just give me whichever one?
If you really want one right now, get the Bivalent booster. Brand matters not. I have ended up with a mix of Pfizer (early shots) and Moderna boosters because there were a few studies suggesting that was marginally more effective. But if you can wait a few weeks, there will be a dramatically updated one available. Mind you, this was my advice to myself waiting for the bivalent and I got the 'rona for the 3rd time in the meantime, so my advice may suck.
Exactly, tailgating on grass, on campus with trees around I get, but in places like Candlestick's or the Coliseum's parking lots are read head scratchers to me.
I prefer on campus too but there is something kind of charmingly industrial about the parking lot - particularly when there are a lot of ppl doing it, like for a baseball playoff game at Oakland (remember those?)
Why are they head scratchers? The parking lots are (were) the best available spaces for tailgating at the cited locations. If you don't have a grove of trees (a la Ole Miss) or an otherwise non-parking lot setting, where else are you going to tailgate but a parking lot?
Lack of ambience. I'd rather pass on tailgating all together rather than do it surrounded by asphalt, concrete and cars. The "tailgates" I see and have attended on the Cal campus make sense.
That game ended up as such a disappointment as Wilcox’s Bears shit the bed in the kicking game AND let f-ing Zach Evans go up the gut to score from mid-field as TCU was ostensibly content to run out the clock in the 1H and maybe get a FG attempt.
Newellbany and I did, however, enjoy some all-world BBQ at the Woodshed restaurant for dinner that night…one of those all-time memorable meals.
Watching Hijack, suggested last week. In the middle of episode 2. Good so far. I wonder if it's going to be like 24 where each episode is about 1 hour of the flight.
Cugel, you mentioned Out of the Past on here last week so I watched it - very good! So cool to see SF in the 40s, and the dialogue was amazing. Mitchum was such a badass but a suave and sophisticated badass who always had a turn of phrase at the ready - wish we had more of those in today’s cinema! It’s quite refreshing viewed from the current era of seemingly endless superhero movies (I hope that is almost over???). Anyway, good rec!
One of the funniest is he tells his center, "You know I'm going in deeper than the other guys."
Also, wife and I are binge watching Dallas, the classic series. Our football program needs to be a hybrid of JR and Bobby Ewing, conscientious, but with nasty teeth.
I'm trying something new. Every time I'm reminded of a particularly cringey moment of my past, I remind myself that I have yet to try to overthrow American democracy by committing election fraud, pay off a hooker, illegally keep top secret documents, fire at protestors to hold a bible upside down, etc.
Collin Morikawa was the co-leader after the first two day of the Tour Championship. On Saturday he chose to wear a red shirt and fell seven stokes behind. Turns out the other co-leader shot 63 on Sunday so Collin wouldn't have won anyhow, but a red shirt? He still won $2 million so not a bad weekend.
For the second straight game, the Oakland Athletics’ bats fell silent in a 6-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
Paul Blackburn found himself in some early trouble as Tim Anderson sent a fly ball to right that Seth Brown was unable to come up with for a double. Blackburn got Andrew Benintendi to pop out for the first out, but then walked Eloy Jimenez. Andrew Vaughn followed with a single to left that scored Anderson to put Chicago in front 1-0. The throw home was cut off and the A’s were able to nab Jimenez who went too far rounding second for the second out. That play would be big as Yoan Moncada singled to right to put runners at the corners, but Blackburn got Gavin Sheets to pop out to avoid any more damage.
The 2023 San Francisco Giants continue to defy the odds.
In the face of total humiliation, of crushing defeat against some of the hottest teams in baseball, these kids refuse to shout ‘uncle!’
The Angels and Rangers and Rays and Braves and Phillies and Braves again have tried to sweep the Giants but have come up short. One measly game short, and to the bamboozlement of their fans and their opponents, just when everyone thinks they’re going to throw in the towel, the team fields the best version of themselves. Yes, like they did in Philadelphia on Wednesday and Atlanta on Sunday and in San Francisco the Sunday before that, the Giants have claimed a minor battle in the series’ war.
It took a few innings, but the Dodgers finally found a steady stream of offense, scoring in five consecutive innings to beat the Red Sox 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park in Boston.
The Dodgers won another series, their eighth in a row, and improved to 21-4 in August, without losing consecutive games all month.
Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have fueled the Dodgers offense all season, but especially so this week, with both scorching hot at the plate. That was also true on Sunday with a pair of three-hit games. Freeman hit two doubles to set a new Los Angeles Dodgers record with 50 doubles in a season. Betts hit a two-run home run onto Landsdowne Street behind the Green Monster and drove in another run in the eighth, continuing one of the best hot streaks in Dodgers history.
BERKELEY- Co-head coaches Elisabeth Crandall-Howell and Justin Howell of the California women's gymnastics team bolstered their coaching staff Friday afternoon by naming Cal alumna Nevaeh DeSouza as an assistant coach.
"I am delighted to be adding [DeSouza] to our coaching staff," Crandall-Howell said. "[DeSouza} has an incredible passion for both the sport of gymnastics and for learning. As a Cal alumna, she understands the daily life and commitment of the student-athletes. She is an enthusiastic and empathetic leader and an inquisitive learner. These qualities will make her a valuable addition to the Cal gymnastics staff."
BERKELEY – Sixth-year seniors Matthew Cindric and Jackson Sirmon have been selected as season captains for the 2023 campaign in a vote of their Cal football teammates. Cindric will serve as a season captain for the second consecutive campaign, while Sirmon will be in the role for the first time with the Golden Bears.
Cal opens its 2023 season on Saturday at North Texas in a game to be televised by ESPNU (3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. PT).
The Bears will host perennial national and SEC power Auburn in their home opener Sept. 9 when the Tigers visit Berkeley for the first-ever meeting between the teams. The Saturday night ESPN game and Gold Out contest will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT under the lights at California Memorial Stadium, which is celebrating 100 years in 2023.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Defender Kevin Carmichael headed in a first-half equalizer, and the California men's soccer team held on for a 1-1 tie with 18th-ranked Wake Forest on Sunday at Spry Stadium. The result was the Golden Bears' second 1-1 tie in the state of North Carolina, including Thursday's 1-1 draw at No. 10 UNC Greensboro.
"We had our chances," Cal head coach Leonard Griffin said. "I'm extremely satisfied, but as a competitor you always want the win. To come on the road and get two results in the draws is a huge sign for our group for our overall confidence and belief in ourselves. Hopefully this will be a springboard to give us momentum the rest of the season."
BERKELEY – The California field hockey team struck first and battled all afternoon against No. 3 Maryland. Unfortunately for the Golden Bears, three goals by the Terrapins in the fourth quarter was the difference as Maryland came away with the hard-fought 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Underhill Field.
Through two periods the Bears (0-2) once again had the advantage on shots and penalty corners. At the intermission, the Bears had a 6-1 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corners. However, late in the third quarter and most of the fourth, Maryland (2-0) took control. The Terrapins finished the second half with 12 shots and seven penalty corners which led to three goals late to put the game away.
BERKELEY – The California field hockey team dominated possession and filled up the stat sheet on Friday afternoon against visiting Miami (Ohio), but the Golden Bears could not send a ball to the back of the net and fell to the visiting Redhawks 2-0 at Underhill Field in the 2023 debut.
Cal (0-1) started an all-international lineup for the first time in Donna Fong Director of Field Hockey Shellie Onstead's career. Nine Bears made their debut; seven in the starting lineup. Cal outshot Miami 11-3, had a 6-3 shots-on-goal advantage and the Bears also owned an 11-0 advantage on penalty corners.
SAN JOSE – California men's gymnastics' Tyler Shimizu finished up competition at the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships on Saturday night, recording improvements on all three of his routines as he faced a high-pressure environment featuring the best gymnasts in the nation.
Shimizu's most drastic improvement was on pommel horse, scoring nearly two points higher at 13.200 than his Thursday routine of 11.250. His second-largest jump came on floor, moving from 12.850 to 13.300, while he also recorded a small improvement on parallel bars to 13.100 from 13.050.
As the first one here today I'd like to remind all visitors of a few rules: no flash photography, hold all your applause to the end, no outside food or drink and no red. Enjoy your stay at DBD, check out the concession areas and souvenir shop. And oh by the way, Go Bears!!!

QUESTION for my DBD family…

I think I heard they were coming out with a new booster in September focused on the latest variants.
I would take whatever they have that's most most modern - that's what I did last week at Kaiser - didn't feel a thing at all.
Tailgating
OSU in Columbus was great. Some wealthy OSU donor hooked us up. Maybe the last time I hung out with Bryan Harland.
That was a good one as well. I brought No 2 and 3. 2nd time I met up with the Ohio CGB contingent.
1st was the First Four game in Dayton, with tbb, OhioBear, and CALumbus Bear. What a disappointing game.
Prolific!
I've always been baffled by tailgating in a parking lot. It's a fricking parking lot for crying out loud. What kind of fun is that?
By definition, tailgating requires vehicles with tailgates. Which have to be parked at the time.
Since Berkeley essentially lacks any semblance of adequate parking, it precludes setting the table on the tailgate,
Eh, not so much - I always "tailgate" from parking + table.
A table doubtless pulled out of the back after opening the tailgate.
True, but there's both!
Well... the Ole Miss is not in a parking lot at all.
Also, very nice photo.
Exactly, tailgating on grass, on campus with trees around I get, but in places like Candlestick's or the Coliseum's parking lots are read head scratchers to me.

I get your point about ambience. I also prefer trees to asphalt and concrete.
What about artificial turf, like Kleeburger?
I resemble someone in that photograph
You look like the "Retire Starkey" guy?
LOL
I wish I could be there.
was hot as hell that day. Looking forward to sitting in the sun in North Texas on Saturday! Not

You missed that kid getting his shoe stuck in the tree post game
hahaha that was epic
oh god I probably have video of all that somewhere. That was the best.
I grew up in Modesto.
Heat don't scare me.
Go Bears!
That tailgate at TCU was a good one.
UNC was good. Ole Miss was amazing. Looking forward to Auburn. And the other ACC ones that we'll be having.
Ole Miss was fucking amazing - best ever?
Yeah, Ole Miss was awesome, and the post-Win revelry made it even better!

Watching Hijack, suggested last week. In the middle of episode 2. Good so far. I wonder if it's going to be like 24 where each episode is about 1 hour of the flight.
It is. 7 hours of real time. It’s very good.

Ah, really glad you liked that movie.
It was a cool bonus that it was set in SF. Despite all the changes the City has gone through, it is so instantly recognizable.
Also what a cool art form the dialogue was!
Hard Knocks.
Rodgers is hilarious.

*****SPOILER ALERT*****
Who shot JR?
I know, right?
Just saw the second time he got shot.
Both times, I yelling at the screen, "Headshot! Give him the coup de gras!"
We're enjoying that Lakers (70's-80's) show quite a bit - we would not say it's great, but it is a lot of fun.
Like the Showtime Lakers, it plays fast and loose . . . with the facts.
DBD Lunch
Leftovers; awesome (Asian, beef, two types of noodles, bell peppers and some other chewy veggies.
