About 3 or 4 years ago, I read that *if you live long enough* the odds are that you'll end up with prostate cancer. Some ridiculous percentage of men over the age of 85 (like 90%) have prostate cancer.
I had a cousin (my dad's 1st cousin) who got prostate cancer. He lived to be 85; it was the proximate cause of his death. Roger died 9 years ago.
Not great. Minor operation. Nurse took the anesthesia off early for some reason when the procedure was still ongoing. I'm not proud that I yelled at the nurse, but it hurt like a mofo.
Well, I didn't know this until yesterday at pre-op consult. You can undergo a colonoscopy sans the sedative. When I asked how a patients reacts...."Some groaning, if any."
A glance at the article suggests that "everyone" is "people in the northeast". And a lot of them are going to California, not just the South.
Speaking of Northeast, one of the first guys I met at Bowles Hall was from NY. Ted Roeder, who lived across the hall. Great guy. If you're out there Ted, I hope you're doing well!
Showing that home field advantage sometimes isn't.
EDIT: this is what I don't like about the best-of-three format - the loser of Game 1 immediately has its back to the wall. OTOH, it beats a single game playoff where there is no tomorrow. Ask the 2014 Pirates how that worked for them.
I didn't watch the VP debate. So how was it? I did see a clip where JD Vance asked when they did fact check that the Haitian migrants weren't citizens, "I thought we weren't being fact checked"... So you just admitted you lied??
The VP debate was underwhelming in some ways, a departure in another way.
The departure was that Walz and Vance actually seemed to operate from a place of respect toward the other. Given the brands of the two tickets, I think this helps Harris-Walz more than it does Trump-Vance.
After battling North Carolina on the road last week, the California men's soccer team (3-5-1, 0-3-1 ACC) returns to the cozy confines of Edwards Stadium to host Louisville in an Atlantic Coast Conference match Thursday at 3 p.m. PT.
SEASIDE – Last year, the California women's golf team made a habit of ending tournaments strong.
After a slow start to this week's 2024 Molly Invitational, the Golden Bears did it again, shooting a 9-under-par 279 in Tuesday's final round at Bayonet Golf Course to finish in second place.
Nine former players from the California baseball program saw action for Major League Baseball teams during the league's 2024 regular season and were among 36 Pro Bears that were on professional baseball rosters in 2024.
Among the nine players on MLB rosters during the 2024 regular season was one who advanced to the league's playoffs in RHP Lucas Erceg of the Kansas City Royals. Erceg, who had 14 saves in a combined 61 appearances for Kansas City and Oakland, was traded from the A's to the Royals on July 30 and picked up 11 of his saves with Kansas City, including in all three games of a sweep at Washington in the final week of the regular season that helped the Royals clinch an American League Wild Card Series playoff spot.
Sophomore defender Malia McMahon of the No. 13 California women's soccer team was named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
McMahon, who shared the honor with Duke goalkeeper Leah Freeman, went the distance in the Golden Bears' two ACC wins over No. 16 Pitt and Miami this past week.
Championship-winning cultures are exceedingly hard to come by, but when one is cultivated, it doesn't happen by accident.
As fleeting as prolonged excellence might be, for over half a century, California men's water polo has continued to refine and redefine its culture on the way to racking up a record 17 NCAA Championships – seven more than any other program since 1973.
Immense talent and leadership have been constants within the Bears' championship DNA ever since Kirk Everist returned to his alma mater as head coach in 2002. But, while Everist's various eras of Golden Bear supremacy have also come to be defined by words like family, resilience, grit, and sacrifice, none of the qualities associated with championship-winning water polo will see a team get to the top and stay there without the right people to embody them.
The California football team returns to Berkeley for its ACC home opener with a 7:30 p.m. PT kickoff against No. 8 Miami at California Memorial Stadium. The Golden Bears (3-1,0-1 ACC) and Hurricanes (5-0,1-0 ACC) will meet for the fifth time in history.
Brick Morse — aka The Eternal Sophomore — played football for California in the early 1890s. He was a founder of the Cal Glee Club and composed both “Sons of California” and “Hail to California.” As a sportswriter he coined the term Wonder Team for Andy Smith’s great sides of the early 1920s. Brick founded the Big City society and wrote the first history of Cal football which was published in 1938. In addition to football, Morse lettered in baseball and track at Cal.

Weird nonsense going on...
I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a data breach or other system failure at BofA in the near future.
Hmm...I'm getting accounts temporarily unavailable.
Same. Earlier today, balances in some of my accounts were showing as zero. And now those accounts are showing yesterday's balances.

HOW'D THAT LAST DOCTOR VISIT GO?
Fine. Keeping the extra mass off, and BP staying under control.
do virtual ones count? had to get a refill for my prostate/ED meds.
7 out of 7 of my uncles have had prostate cancer, so i figure i will get it in the not too distant future.

A sure sign that you're with a bunch of old people is that all you talk about is your medical problems.

What kind of groaning, doc?
Gave me the prescription I needed.

I’d wager a fair sum that Harvard specifically is not losing out here (WSJ wish fulfillment aside). BU, BC, or Tufts, maybe.
The WSJ is even more Manhattan centric than the NYT. Temple is in the south to them.
Wow. I didn't know Philadelphia was below the Mason-Dixon Line. Did it get moved?
