I have to snicker at the description of a cheeseburger as a "delicacy". Or a cheeseburger as a "projectile". Sounds to me like an attempt to make the story juicier than it was.
Not sure if this was a "you're encouraged to retire" by the front office. I know that there were grumblings by their blog that he was just a shill for the front office in terms of analytics and stuff. And, tell me if you've heard this before, he wasn't very smart in using his roster.
Blake Snell was brilliant, and he had to be in a tense, low-scoring Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers left-hander struck out 10 in eight scoreless innings in a 2-1 squeaker over the Brewers on Monday night in Milwaukee.
Snell allowed a leadoff single to Caleb Durbin in the third inning, but one out later picked him off first base. Snell retired his final 17 batters in a row to finish off his night, facing the minimum 24 batters. It’s the longest postseason start by Clayton Kershaw in 2020 of the Game 2 wild card series, also against the Brewers.
Last Brewers batter had a chance to take one for the team and tie the game, but he dodged the pitch. Pretty hard to override instinct in that moment, but what might have been . . .
You also have to acknowledge that the rules require a batter hit by a pitch to have made an effort to avoid being hit in order to be awarded first base. Standing in the batter's box like a statue doesn't result in being awarded first.
I love when you see something in baseball that you have never seen before even after watching for a lifetime.
there was this crazy inning ending double play.. where the ball is hit to deep center. the centerfield bobbles it, the ball bounces off the fences, and he throws runner out at home on a bases-loaded force out. the runners all stalled on the bases because it wasnt clear if the ball was going to be caught or not.
What's crazy is there was a similar play earlier this year where the outfielder bobbled it and the Dodgers runner on 3rd ran at first contact. I remember it being an Apple game because Dontrelle Willis was the color guy and didn't know the rule either, and he played in the MLB (even though he was a pitcher).
So I guess Teo wasn't paying attention back then because he tagged, went back when he saw it bobbled, and then went home. Should've just kept running after it was bobbled. Shouldn't have even been looking back as soon as he started running.
On October 13, 1995, exactly 30 years ago, they won their second game of the ALCS to take a 2-1 lead. Today, with their 10-3 dismantling of the Blue Jays the Mariners take a 2-0 lead. It is the best position they have ever been in during the postseason. As the ALCS now comes to Seattle for three games the M’s need only go 2-1 at home, something they’ve done countless times before. Folks, the M’s have never had it this good.
The California women's basketball team is hosting its sixth annual Race For Change at Lake Merritt in Oakland on Oct. 18 at 2:30 p.m. PT. High minus diopter means a slightly bigger eyeball, which might tend to stretch the retina. Or so I recall from my father, a Berkeley Optometry school graduate.
I'm a lazy swimmer. I have been known to use them to just hang out in a body of water rather than have to tread water. I also use a life vest because it's a floaty specifically tailored for me. I don't care if they're uncool.
There's an argument that if the Republican candidate (Silwa) drops out then the race could tighten enough for Cuomo to win. I'm pretty skeptical of that, though; I'm not sure how many Republicans who are currently supporting Silwa are willing to cast their votes for Cuomo, who they hate. Not voting is also an option.
Do not underestimate the desire of so-called "conservative" voters to seriously screw with Mamdani's candidacy. Especially in places like Queens and Staten Island.
If Sliwa were to withdraw, that could very easily tighten the race.

Yeah, but for a pitch that's that far in it's almost ever called.

Teoscar Hernandez seems to have frequent brain farts like this. Dodger fans seem frustrated with him.
Most of the issues with him have been his defense. This is his first base running mistake I remember from him.
Excellent advice. It's exactly what Little Leaguers are told.
