In response to this topic a few days ago, it looks like there is 1 week between the end of the Singapore event I need to be at and the Dodgers/Cubs series in Tokyo. Not sure I can find somewhere to go for cheap to work remotely for 1 week.
I guess that could be an option. There was a scheduled event in Bangkok Dec 2020 and then Covid cancelled it. I was going to stay an extra few days to see the temples.
quantum computing is doing well at the moment and i think people are generally happy that our stock has spiked 150% in just the last month. i am sure there is some short term euphoria w/ good earnings as well as us recently signing up a big customer.
that being said, it always comes back down. maybe this time it will be different ..
there is another company (competitor) Quantinuum that is preparing for an IPO. $10B seems like a lot, but probably good overall for the industry.
at work people are generally happy and still work just as hard before our IPO a few years ago.
there are starting to be some more questions around ethics and how we feel about a good fraction of our revenues coming from DOD or other defense dept contracts.
Dunno. I work remote so won't see my colleagues until next Tuesday. But I'm guessing people will be not so great given the environment and budget cuts.
I also wonder if they got rid of the quarterly Great Place to Work events. 1st and 3rd Q are employees only around lunch and some afternoon activity. Summer is usually a large family event. In Hillsboro it's a huge party where basically all employees in Hillsboro bring their family. And Christmas is usually a +1 nice dinner event with your team/group.
They've always treated employees well, though not as well as someone like Google. Intel doesn't provide free lunches but does provide free soda/coffee/fruit, etc.
I could see company morale dropping with Intel getting rid of the free stuff during the day. Overall, I can't imagine it costs the company very much to provide those things.
Cal-Oregon 2008. It was early enough in our relationship that buying tickets seemed risky. Rained like crazy and her boots got filled with water, so we bailed at halftime and watched the end on TV. We’ve been married quite awhile now!
I think the first Cal game I took my current wife to (as my then-girlfriend) was against WSU in 2005, when Joe Ayoob improbably led a big comeback in the fourth quarter. That was a good one!
We were also at the Marshawn Lynch cart ride game, and then (unfortunately) the 2007 Riley-runs-out-the-clock OSU game. 2 out of 3 ain't bad!
Mine knew I was a Cal fan before she agreed to marry me. The first game we saw as a couple was Cal vs. Arizona in 1985. The second game we saw was after we became engaged, in which the Bears defeated USC, 14-9.
Yeah. I brought a girlfriend to a game. We dated for 3.5 years, so I guess it was successful. Did she have a good time? Eh, that's a different question. In my experience, very few women are actually sports fans and that most follow just enough to participate/experience the situation. If your SO is an actual fan, you're lucky to share that in common.
it was the Cal-Purdue disaster in '92. i think she thought it was going to be more of a date/talk but once we got there and her being ex-Cal-band, it did not turn out that way. mostly just social stuff.
Just finished season 4 of Only Murders in the Building. As you can guess, there is a murder at the end of the last episode. I enjoyed the season. 16/19 WB [HULU]
I finished Disclaimer last night on AppleTV and it was a powerful but rough final episode to watch due to the content in the episode. Great series and would recommend.
I am really enjoying RoP but it seems a lot of LOTR fans do not like it. Maybe it is just the hardcore Tolkien and LOTR fans that hate it but they are very loud in their dislike of the series.
Texas A&M-Commerce football is 1-8, which is understandable since they are in their 3rd Division 1 season. However, they are now East Texas A&M, a mid-season change. eaTm?
BERKELEY (AP) – The California men's basketball team erased an early double-digit lead and defeated Cal Poly 91-73 on Tuesday night to improve to 2-0 for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
TEMPE, Ariz. – Graduate student Isabelle Stadden was a double-winner and the No. 8 California women's swimming & diving team notched an impressive victory in the 200-yard medley relay during the first day of a tri-meet against No. 4 Stanford and No. 18 Arizona State on Thursday evening at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 1 men's swimming & diving team opened the two-day tri-meet against No. 6 Arizona State and No. 9 Stanford with a trio of first-place finishes in Tempe, Ariz.
The Golden Bears began the night with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The A lineup of graduate student Bjorn Seeliger, freshman Yamato Okadome, graduate student Dare Rose and senior Jack Alexy finished in a time of 1:23.53. Cal's B lineup of senior Kai Crews, junior Luca Pusateri Gissendaner, sophomore Samuel Quarles and freshman Lucca Battaglini placed sixth with a time of 1:26.50.
ROME, Ga. – California women's tennis senior Katja Wiersholm won twice on the first day of the ITA Conference Masters Championships on Thursday to reach Friday's singles quarterfinals at the Rome Tennis Center.
The 33rd-ranked Golden Bear – who's seeded third – defeated Nevada's Amahee Charrier 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round of 32. Wiersholm then beat Xavier's Madeleine Rexroat 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16. She next plays UC San Diego's Julia Haynes on Friday at 7:30 a.m. PT.
MALIBU – The California men's tennis team rolled to victory in all seven of its matches on the first day of the ITA West Sectional Championships on Thursday at Pepperdine. Cal saw three of its doubles teams advance to the quarterfinals and four Golden Bears reach the singles round of 16 on Friday.
BERKELEY – The California women's basketball team put the clamps on visiting Idaho State in front of thousands of local youths from around the East Bay to come away with the 88-36 victory at Haas Pavilion on Thursday afternoon. The 52-point margin of victory marked Cal's largest since the Golden Bears (2-0) defeated Cal State Northridge 106-44 on Dec. 30, 2015, and was the fourth largest since the 2002-03 season. The Bears were able to hold the Bengals (1-1) to under 10 points in three of the four quarters and just 22% from the field.
Kennedy Goss, a former Cal lacrosse player who graduated from Cal in media studies in May 2024, has been selected as this year's recipient of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's Tina Sloan Green Award. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who promote a culture of equity and inclusion within athletics. Goss becomes the first Cal student-athlete to win the honor.

EVER BRING A DATE TO A CAL FOOTBALL GAME?
Cal-Oregon 2008. It was early enough in our relationship that buying tickets seemed risky. Rained like crazy and her boots got filled with water, so we bailed at halftime and watched the end on TV. We’ve been married quite awhile now!
Yes. And we’re still married!
Why disappoint her so early in the relationship.
My GF and I saw a couple of Cal games. She did eventually marry me. She is a fan of NFL MBA, and MLB, but not so much college sports.
Yes. My wife before she was my fiancee.
i made sure we were already married before bringing wife to a Cal game.
Mine knew I was a Cal fan before she agreed to marry me. The first game we saw as a couple was Cal vs. Arizona in 1985. The second game we saw was after we became engaged, in which the Bears defeated USC, 14-9.
A few times. The last of those was the woman I've been married to for the last few decades. She prefers baseball and soccer.
Well, it is Cal football we are talking about.
Yeah. I brought a girlfriend to a game. We dated for 3.5 years, so I guess it was successful. Did she have a good time? Eh, that's a different question. sort of complex friend relationship. didnt go well.
So... she didn't know it was a date.
haha. complicated.
it was the Cal-Purdue disaster in '92. i think she thought it was going to be more of a date/talk but once we got there and her being ex-Cal-band, it did not turn out that way. mostly just social stuff.
we did go to dinner w/ her parents afterwards ...

finished Rings of Power S2 on Amazon. 15+ if you are a LOTR fan
i thought that the final episode was a little bit of a let down after the previous one was so good. still, Galadriel is a bad-ass w/ Elven sword.
I am really enjoying RoP but it seems a lot of LOTR fans do not like it. Maybe it is just the hardcore Tolkien and LOTR fans that hate it but they are very loud in their dislike of the series.

Go Bears!!! Beat the Demon Deacons!
my grad school office mate (6 yrs) went to Wake Forest. she cares close to ZERO about football or any sports. i sent her a note this morning anyways.
This November, besides the Big Game the Bears play Wake Forest, Syracuse and SMU. No Ucla, no U$C, no Washington, no Oregon, not even WSU. Weird.
Yet, the record stays the same.
At least we get UCLA games for 4 years starting in 2 or 3 years.
