Thought he got a raw deal from Barbour, especially when you talk about coaches that were committed to Cal...he wasn't going anywhere. Sorry it didn't work out for him at Cal, but the grad rate issues did him in.
He just burned out at Cal. Which is too bad, because he seemed like the best best Cal has ever had for a good coach who would stick around and help build a real program.
My most distinct memory of visiting Pearl Harbor many years ago is the dude who pilots the boat that takes you out to the USS Arizona Memorial. He had the crispest, whitest white uniform in the world and the absolutely shiniest black shoes. The Navy takes that shit seriously.
Interesting WaPo story about the first round the world commercial flight:
That event, 80 years ago Tuesday, propelled the United States into war and forced the Pacific Clipper’s crew of 12 to make a dangerous — and historic — detour from their scheduled flight plan.
Instead of heading home by going east, they took the massive Boeing 314 in the opposite direction, flying blind with no charts and no support from the airline. They were shot at twice, narrowly escaped getting blown up and otherwise avoided disaster while piloting the first commercial flight to circumnavigate the globe. They flew more than 30,000 miles over vast expanses of empty oceans and remote landscapes on five continents while crossing the equator four times.
To top it off, the crew managed this feat without the aid of maps or radio contact, using only celestial navigation and an atlas obtained from a library in New Zealand.
“Flying around the world with no charts is astounding,” said F. Robert van der Linden, curator of Air Transportation and Special Purpose Aircraft at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. “They didn’t get lost and they had only one engine problem, which they fixed. These planes were beautiful, but they were hard to fly.”
Jean Witter was a Big Game hero eight days before Pearl Harbor (blocked a punt for a safety). He immediately enlisted. Witter was killed on Guadalcanal in November 1942 and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.
In one of the later seasons, the show talked about the Webb. Even back then, the talk was about extensive delays and problems with the Webb. Roughly 15 years later...
And Jungle Cruise boat "drivers" are also called skippers. Fun fact, all Skippers on the Jungle Cruise are named "Skip" if a fellow Skipper can't see your name tag.
I can ('t) believe they worked in the traditional Disneyland jungle cruise script into the Jungle Cruise movie complete with the back side of water joke.
Chicken katsu curry….curry was just veggies and the cubed golden curry from the market. Katsu was flattened chicken breasts in egg/panko crust. Just delicious.

I never got into the Matrix. A bunch of friends are like, you need to watch. How can you not like it, you're a programmer. I watched about 5 min of the first one with them and just stopped watching and went back to work. Didn't enjoy it at all.
Same with The Hobbit and LOTR. Not into any of that stuff at all.
Would Chinese people see the LOTR as people trying to avoid wearing a gold ring or desperately trying to wear a gold ring? Because that would impact how Chinese people view the movies.
Watching season 3 of Lost in Space on Netflix. I have enjoyed this series and am bummed it is ending, I was hoping for 4 seasons but it seems to be wrapping up nicely.
High Town on STARZ is an enjoyable ride & makes we wanna visit Provincetown/Cape Cod, where I’ve never been...may have to do a 2nd Coast to COVID 2020 road trip w/ the pups next summer...On to OMICRON 2022?
Day 2 - feels like a normal cold, so far. Dr. Ms. Newellbany has banished me to two rooms - the home office (during work hours) and the basement (after work). But she doesn't want me to any kitchen stuff and there's a TV down there, so it ain't bad.
My cats have been especially awesome. Cats are just the best when you aren't feeling well.
I remember after getting surgery to fix my achilles, I slept in the 2nd floor TV room so I wouldn't have to go up to the 3rd floor master suite. I woke up the first or second night and the cat had curled up in my arm and fallen asleep. The first time she had done that with me.
That Florida team trounced us, tho Cal has struggled with long, athletic guys that D us the F up ever since Dr. Naismith started teaching the game....maybe if we had more than just 1 point guard on the roster it’d have been different?
This is fascinating. There's always a bit of panic anytime anyone transfers out. We think it's a bad sign about the state of the program.
But this list shows that players transfer out of every program, and we're actually on the good side the average. Transferring is just part of college football and, at this pace, it's nothing to panic about.
Especially now that it's easy to do. You don't need a coaching change or a waiver...you can move schools and play immediately bc you don't like the weather.

this is great. the guitar solo is still that same.
for Xmas i bought my younger one the Led Zeppelin 4 LP.
She owns a turntable & stereo?
I've got 2 turntables...AND a microphone....
she has one of those cheap $100 turntables that has some speakers built in.
she has a few vinyls like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish. wants more for Xmas.
she actually likes classic rock, so i got her Abbey Road and LZ IV
I read the other day that vinyl is now (once again) the top selling form of music albums. Vinyl people are super committed to vinyl.
teens are very into it too so there is both young and old driving up sales.
also, when new things are released, vinyl is now an option.

Used to live about 800 feet from the Arizona Memorial, it was just offshore. Father was a Navy captain.

Only the OG know that "The Skipper" is Safeway's brand for knock-off Dr. Pepper.
Yup, had that as a kid (when even Mr. Pibb was too hoity-toity).
didn't Shasta have a version also?
Fact...my Dad would buy it at the Grand Avenue Safeway for my sis when she was in middle school.
Is it your fault then that I never developed a taste for Dr Pepper, having been subjected to cheap, off-brand knock-off soda at Casa Chitwood?
No, this was after we had already begun our matriculation at University...

Market coming back today after last week's carnage.
Market so good today I just hit all of my end-of-year financial goals!
last month the missus was like "did you see our increase for the year?" (the answer was no I don't log on to the accounts) and it's been bonkers
I'm still down slightly from my year high (from like 2 weeks ago) but it's been a decent several years.

nothing special, just really good. a little oil, turmeric, paprika, salt, pepper.
tossed it over some rice with chickpeas for a simple and easy dinner
Do you bread or cover the cauliflower in anything? I'm thinking of stealing this for the weekend.

Per 247, the number of folks transferring out for each Pac12 team are:
Arizona: 7
ASU: 6
Cal: 3
CU: 10
Oregon: 2
Stanfurd: 4
UCLA: 8
USC: 5
Utah: 3
Washington: 5
WSU: 9
All of these are immediate transfers (ie, usually grads). Actually, there is only a single non-immediate transfer in all of the NCAA.
