You know, I was not sure I could forgive him for messing with the JKS recruitment, but I feel a lot more mellow with Tosh inbound. I don’t think he’ll ever be a favorite but I wish him well.
During the cold months, I’ve found knee-high socks make a significant difference in my comfort. I happened upon some good options at Mary and Joe’s in Albany (CA). Colorful, breathable ones.
We had a tuxedo cat just like this that we had to put down at the end of April. We had her for about 18 years. She led a full life. She loved to just lay down right next to us or on my lap when I was trying to work.
As I recall, Archie asked Mike how he put his socks and shoes on. Mike responded, "Sock, shoe, sock shoe".
Archie: "My way is better. What if you've got a sock and shoe on one foot and there's a fire and it's raining? You have to rush out of the house and you're going to get one of your feet wet!"
Who will be next? I think teams in for Kyle Tucker will pivot to Bellinger after Tucker is signed. I think Bellinger should go back to NYC for the short porch. His home road splits weren't that good.
Also where will Alonso go? Back to the Mets?
Bregman, Bo Bichette, Suarez. Lots of free agents waiting to sign.
Dodgers get Edwin Diaz for 3/69 (noice). He's been a top 3-4 closer for the last few years (except for his torn ACL celebrating in the WBC). Hopefully this ends up better than Tanner Scott's contract.
Schwarber back to the Phillies for 5/150. This should be a decent contract for him. He's basically a DH and age 32 - 37 seasons. His bat speed will probably slow down but I think his first 3 seasons should be pretty elite.
Juxtaposition of “This should be a decent contract for him” and $150,000,000 is a good commentary on the state of things in major sports leagues these days.
Phillies have two other ex-Nats on their payroll who have total contracts at least twice that much (Turner and Harper). Nats can’t/wont pay that much and the results show.
There's a disease within men's football & basketball in Berkeley. It's overconfidence. I look at last night's game vs Dominican and in football vs San Diego St and Stanford. I've seen it for years - games we're expected to win, and something happens to the players. It's happened under our best coaches. The players show up. They look like they're giving their all, but something's off. It's something like a 3% drop in effort and focus. Barely perceptible, but enough to change outcomes.
Alabama gets up for Eastern Illinois. We can't get up for Stanford. Mark Madsen realized that he didn't do enough to get the team up for a dead week game. I'm sure The Bears will be up for and crush Northwestern State. The telltale signs will appear at the next game after a big win, vs Morgan State. If the performance is lackluster, the issue will be an ongoing problem vs the bottom of the ACC.
Tosh won't be in place yet, but will the team get up for Hawaii? Going forward, Tosh will have to battle this syndrome (along with everything else on his plate) to get Cal over the hump.
I'm hoping that Rolo gets the team up for a game in Hawaii. I hope that JKS gets them fired up for a home game. I bet that he played with and against many of the players on the other sideline so he wants to play well. Since pretty much no one opted out, I'm hoping that means they'll come out with energy.
I'm not sure this is specific to Cal, I suspect a lot of college teams deal with this. It's just that the best ones have enough talent to cover for the off days and coaches who are better at pepping up a dead team (and credit to Madsen for getting them going after the half).
Good discussion (at 3:30 of video) of Tosh’s drive to succeed, and juggling Cal HC responsibilities with representing Oregon in the CFP, in this interview with Lanning. https://youtu.be/Knx14rMR41U?si=OIL69YlS3_4pDkHQ
Other colleges
It appears Mendoza is in line for some crazy money. Jaylon Tyson’s brother also a top ten projected pick: https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2026/story/_/id/47243299/2026-nfl-mock-draft-first-round-predictions-32-picks-field-yates

Thumbs up for the mention of Mary and Joe's.
Yeah, down to earth vibe (what you want when sock hunting) in there; their pet dog contentedly sits and watches you shop.

- The Clinton family cat that was a Tuxedo cat.
Funny that "Socks" should be the title of today's DBD. Check out today's Pearls Before Swine strip -

EDIT: BTW, I put socks and shoes on in the following order - left sock, left shoe, right sock, right shoe. That is all.
That was in an old All in the Family episode
Yes, it was.

Mike: "I'll hop around on one foot and stay dry!"

Alonso to the Orioles.
I didn't see this one coming. Interesting the Os are giving him that much money.
My first thought when I saw this was to remember Chris Davis.
Well, he did go to a team that wears Orange and Black. Just not the team I favor.

GO BEARS!
Hope todays DBD turnout is better than yesterday's!
