An anecdote from the Cal @ Duke game in 1962: my dad's life-long pal, Jim Anderson, (or Blockhead as he was known to his teammates,) and a de facto uncle to me, played fullback for the Bears in the early 60s and was on the team that played at Duke in 1962. Cal was integrated and Duke was not. When the Cal team went to check into their hotel in Durham, they were told the Black players couldn't stay there as it was a whites-only hotel; Jim Crow was still very much in existence. As a team, they all walked out and found other accommodations. Go Bears!

That reminds me, is Cal now allowed to travel to and play in these Southern states? I'm sure we are but since when?

We always have been, it was just a matter of how trips were being paid for I think.

I clicked like, but really I loved that.

They've got some key injuries too which makes it hard to read in terms of Duke's overall defensive outlook

Terry Moore has been hurt all season and basically their Craig Woodson and I believe Nick Morris Jr just had a season ending injury. Hard to make sense of it all

I have to mention that Vincent Anthony Jr absolutely a force on the defensive line.

Thanks Christopher. The Duke defense is impressive. Yet, I think Cal plays really well this Saturday night and beats Duke. I think Cal isn't going be the Cal of last year and the many years before that and loses all the mid season games. This may not be logical. I know that. I am going to be there and yell a great deal. I am most likely going to embarrass my family again. I do not care. Go Bears!

The defensive stats that really matter are how many points do they give up and how many turnovers do they get. Cal has been giving up 18 and Duke 26 points. Hopefully that holds up
