Golden Nuggets: Oski the Bear Finds Out, Bill Belichick's Bad Trip to Berkeley, and a mess of Hot Links
someone help me acquire oskii.com
Hello and welcome to Golden Nuggets, our weekly recap article where we try to highlight all the fun, funny, or interesting things you might have missed roughly over the last week across Bear Territory (the whole damn world of course).
Just Use Adobe Photoshop…
Man. What a week! For those of you that went to the game last week, you undoubtedly saw the above, totally real, not fake, and definitely not currently available for $5,595 (Kevin Kennedy let’s talk) image up on the jumbotron during the Cal vs. UNC game. You might have been a bit confused, but we here at Golden Nuggets are here to clear things up and help you out.
This past week, internet investigative reporter Pablo Torre dropped the latest episode of his podcast/YouTube Show “Pablo Torre Finds Out” an exposé into Bill Belichick and his 24-year old girlfriend’s professional relationship. If you’re deeply invested into the internet culture, I highly suggest viewing it in full to get a sense of how UNC arrived at their present situation.
About midway through the episode, it’s revealed that much like me, Jordon Hudson is an aspiring graphic designer who made Bill Belichick’s website (https://billbelichick.com/). The tumblr-era layout is…interesting? creative? a choice? I guess ultimately what you need to know is that all to came to light last Friday at about 9 AM, roughly 10.5 hours before the 7:30 kickoff. Which means someone in the Cal Athletics Score Department of Scoreboard Operations Memes Subdepartment created that beautiful Oski website (it was not me!) for our glorious benefit.
You can read more about the successful trolling efforts from this past weekend at SF GATE here.

Alice Waters Guide to Berkeley
Far be it from me to tell Alice Waters where the best Bay Area haunts are, but Arts Intel Report caught up with her to get the secrets. Read them here. Of course she’s wrong because she doesn’t mention Haas or California Memorial Stadium anywhere in the article, but still worth a read!

At First I Didn’t Want To Share This…
But the Athletic interviewed residents up on Panoramic Hill and around other stadiums in the country about what it was like living next to a football stadium. If anyone is interested in selling their houses up there, I know a few buyers that won’t quite yell as much..

Okay, not sure I want to admit this here, but I grew up on Panoramic Hill (in a house my grandfather built and my mom grew up in). I never understood the attitude emanating from the hill and I think my Dad, a Cal engineering professor (who passed in 2020), wanted to live there BECAUSE of it’s proximity to work and the football stadium.
We got to walk to games, hear the cannon if we weren’t at games, hear Greek Theater concerts when the wind was blowing our way….all we had to put up with was traffic on KNOWN days 6-8 times a year. All of which every resident knew when they moved in. Wouldn’t have traded it for the world…..
I’m glad when the lights went in they were designed to minimize shine into houses; O’wise, those complaints fall on my deaf ears.
The safety issues are real but are there regardless of football crowds. One stalled car or downed wire and egress by car is blocked. There are numerous marked foot routes for evacuations due to strong preparedness from the residents and the fire department.
My now wife and I met working at a law office in Berkeley about 25 years ago. The woman in The Athletic article is the wife of the main partner. They were—and apparently remain—two of the most ridiculous and staggeringly entitled humans I’ve encountered on this planet. My wife and I have been cackling about this non stop this week since we read it.
