Golden Nuggets: Hydrogen Heist and a Tip on Where To Find (Steal) $25,000 in Eggs
Women's Water Polo Senior Day, 57,000 Eggs, the EDSBS Charity Bowl, and a Masters Recap
Hello and welcome to Golden Nuggets! In this weekly write up, we try our best to cover all things Cal, Berkeley, Bearkeley, UC Berkeley, University of Cal Berkeley, University of Berkeley at Cal, BerkeleyInspire, and California State University Berkeley that happened more or less in the last week! Everything except that thing. Let’s dig in!
Women’s Water Polo Senior Day
We start this week by recognizing the Seniors on Women’s Water Polo. Congrats to Ruby Swadling, Rozanne Voorvelt, Jessie Rose, Elena Flynn, Janna Tauscher, and Claire Rowell!
Would You Like Some of Oski’s Eggs?
Just in time for Easter, and the collapse of the global trade market, UC Berkeley news highlighted the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology on campus that houses roughly 57,883 eggs (3 of which came from Oski. I know he’s a Bear, but he’s some sort of cosmic-horror bear. I don’t know how he does it, and I’m pretty I’m incapable of knowing). This impressive collection (worth just under $25,000 given the current price of eggs) is one of the largest in North America and ranges from hummingbirds to the now extinct elephant bird which I just learned is a thing. Charity Bowl Update
Hello and thanks to those of you that have donated to the Every Day Should Be Saturday (EDSBS) Charity Bowl that is currently raising money through Friday to help settle refugees in the greater Atlanta area. As of Tuesday night, Cal is sitting pretty in 20th place with $3,140 raised and currently 5th in the ACC behind Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Stanford, and Pittsburgh. It’s been said that the charity bowl often leads to improved on-field performance so please donate today at https://edsbscharitybowl.com/!
For those just joining us, you’re encouraged to donate in quantities of petty. In other words, meaningful numbers of scores across collegiate sports. I’ll cover this down below, but was delighted to see a donation in light of Mykolas Alekna’s new world record of $75.56. Here’s a few other ideas for you:
$104 for the 104 National Team Titles won by Cal
$10 for Mya Lauzon’s Perfect 10 on the Floor Exercise
$120 for the distance in feet off campus to the new Raising Cane’s
$59 for the number of Nobel Laureates that have called UC Berkeley home at some point
$19.82 for The Play, the greatest play in sports history (get out of here with that The Revenge crap)
Anyways, it’s a great cause and a great time and you can help propel Cal back to a top 10 finish this year! Donate now and often! Any and everything is appreciated!
The Masters Tournament Recap
Cal alums had a great week over at August National this past week, home of the Masters Tournament. While Rory McIlroy took the top price, all Cal alums that competed hit over par while Max Homa earned an invite back next year by finishing in the Top 12. Colin Morikawa just missed the cut (but is likely to be back) tying for 14th while Ben An finished tied for 21st and Michael Kim finished tied for 27th. Let’s take a look back at some of the fun.
Max Homa got back into a groove, playing on the weekend for the first time in a few months. All thanks to his Mini Putter.
Max also managed to hit an errant caddy
Michael Kim had a fun week and recorded the whole thing. Here is his Augusta Diaries (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
Collin Morikawa had a nice post at the end. (This remains a Morikawa Household)
Ben An reacted like most of us.
Next year will be the year all 4 agree to a 4-Way Tie and don the green jackets. Book it.

I have read this headline no less than 10 times and everytime I mis-read “universe” for “university” and imagine a giant Hydrogen Heist in the Chemistry Building. Anyways, read more about how UC Berkeley researcher’s found the universe’s missing hydrogen gas.
Steve Kroner got a chance to catch up with Ron Rivera and the result (as always) is great. Read it here.
