Cal Football: Hayward 2021 4* DE/LB Kaleb Elarms-Orr announces commitment to Bears
Local talent, NFL upside
When his mother was a masters student at California, an infant Kaleb Elarms-Orr would come along with her to class. Now, the 4* defensive end/linebacker, who plays for local school Moreau Catholic in Hayward, is coming home. Elarms-Orr is the Bears’ 19th commit of the 2021 class.
Elarms-Orr stands at 6-3 and weighs 222 pounds. He currently plays both outside and inside linebacker and has the traits to play our new STAR position. He can also line up with his hands on the ground.
Elarms-Orr held offers from the Naval Academy, Arizona, Colorado, Washington State, and Boise State, among others.
Although Elarms-Orr’s 247Sports Composite rating ranks him as a high 3*, 247Sports’ analysts list him as a 4* and rank him the 17th best player in California. National recruiting editor Brandon Huffman projects Elarms-Orr as a multi-year starter and a 4th-7th round NFL Draft pick.
You can view his latest highlight reel on Hudl.
Cal fans, what traits do you notice in Elarms-Orr’s film? Where do you project he will end up?
Welcome (home) to Berkeley, Kaleb! GO BEARS!
Kaleb Elarms-Orr
Moreau Catholic HS
c/o 2021, DE (in HS), potential OLB (?) at Cal
6'3" 222 lbs
Kaleb, a Cal legacy, is just down the 580 in Hayward. He now starting his third varsity FB season, a year after racking up a ridiculous 121 tackles, 35 TFL, and 14 sacks in only 10 games as a junior. He plays as a Defensive End in a two-point stance, but his leaner frame makes him more suited as an OLB. It is my speculation, but it seems like he might compete for the RUSH OLB role or even a MLB molder after Devante Down or Evan Weaver.
Looking at his highlight tape, http://www.hudl.com/v/2CTJRx, you can see where those 35 TFL come from. He has a ridiculously quick first step that allows him to be next to a lineman's shoulder before the latter can even land his first kick step backward. He follows up that first step with equally quick 2nd and 3rd steps with fluid hips. Which means it looks like he's bull-rushing, but he squirts into a gap diagonally literally faster than a fat guy can fall. So you see lineman whiffing. It's just a hype reel of him living in his opponent's backfield.
He is quick in pursuit, with another gear in speed - meaning that he's fast, as well as quick. So he should be good in support.
Clearly, he is at the size disadvantage vs linemen when he gets tied up - but shows he can shed a block pretty well.
So... Cal gets yet ANOTHER 4-star DE/OLB. To the point where I am curious where and how Sirmon is going to use all these studs. And KEO is one of the better ones. He just looks so good. We've got a group of young men in the '20 and '21 classes who are savages on defense. It is going to be really difficult to run vs. Cal in a few years.
KEO mentioned in an interview that Sirmon has him slotted for ILB.
I pity PAC12 RBs for the next 4 years.
