The California Golden Bears (2-2) travel to San Juan Capistrano, Calif., in Orange County, to face off against the UTEP Miners (4-0) in the SoCal Challenge, the pre-season men’s college basketball tournament. The trip down south is California’s first away game of the season after playing four straight at home.

The University of Texas El Paso Miners will defend their perfect 4-0 record, a feat UTEP last achieved in the 2019 season when they got off to a 5-0 start.

UTEP is licking its chops after the Golden Bears fell to Montana State last week, 60-63, and will be playing for an upset against a “Power Five” team.

The UTEP Miners have averaged a whopping 101 points per game after starting their season with a 120-71 match-up against NCAA Division III McMurry University and a 123-72 victory over the NAIA team, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.

UTEP has recently played close to the wire against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (89-76) and the Austin Peay Governors (71-63), but the Miners have a habit of breaking away in the second half. UTEP has never trailed in the final period of a game this season.
