Forget adding teams, the Pac 12 might be in danger of losing teams. Cal can easily find itself on the Island of Misfit toys if USC, Oregon, and UW were to leave for the Big Ten or some sort of new super conference.
Larry Scott really set back the Pac 12 in terms of national relevance and more importantly money/revenue. The Pac 12 should have eliminated the 9 game conference schedule years ago and went to 8 as they would have helped with national ranking and perception as it would have increased each programs win totals.
Agreed. I am against adding any teams. The Pac 12 is already diluted. Dropping a conference game and adding another cupcake to the schedule (a la the SEC) is a good idea.
IMO we should boot utah and the incorrectly named bison while giving asu and the cats a one time opportunity to justify their existence in the PACIFIC conference. old school baby.
It’s expand or die. That’s the name of the game. The only problem is none of the left behind Big 12 add much in terms of revenue, same is true with MWC teams.
That means the best possible option is a merger/alliance with the Big 10 that would help counter the SEC.
We ditch the 9 game conference schedule and go to 8 conference games, 2 or 3 OOC games with the Big 10, and 1 or 2 mid tier games with MWC.
Set up a King of the North(ern Aggression) Football Championship game between the Big Pac at the Rose bowl and that champion plays the South Eastern Cartel Champion.
Not that I want them to, but I could see adding 4 teams: 3 best available Big12 + maybe Boise State or a 4th Big12 , and then moving Utah and potentially Colorado to the North division depending on where that fourth team is.
You can only really have 2 divisions in a conference still, otherwise you'd just have no divisions and a points system to choose the conference championship.. and all the fun that goes along with that mess. Moving Utah (and possibly Colorado) to the North would make geographic sense with the addition of OK State + TCU+ 2 of TexasTech/Boise State/Baylor.
Cant imagine not playing all teams in your division, but we'll see how the SEC does it.
Clearly with 7 divisional games we'd have some complications with one or both potentially both of: A. Reducing the number of total conference games down to 8 from 9 (if that was even being considered) (and again, lets see what the SEC does) and; B. Maintaining the annual USC and UCLA tradition.
New conference name: The Wild West, aka "Double W"
I don’t see us adding two teams from the leftovers of the Big 12. The only thing kind of saving the Pac 12 right now is the geography and traveling distance/logistics of the 3 most desirable schools that the Big 10 would want.
Hopefully the Pac 12 commissioner, along with the Rose Bowl committee are working with the Big 10 to form an alliance that would protect both the Pac 12 and the Rose Bowls place in CFB going forward.
I’m perfectly fine with adding our footprint in Texas and Oklahoma. It would help with recruiting, and it would be nice to visit the area, regardless of religions.

If we add Big 12 teams, do we change our name?
Wait, Ur real name is Bob R.?
