I think that this is a, “No more excuses” type of season and that he realizes it with a strong sense that an end is coming.

Either we end our losing ways and start a new, upward trajectory with winning records or we end Wilcox’s tenure.

We can’t have excuses like a rebuilding year, new Coordinators / systems, a tough schedule, or even injuries at this stage of his tenure.

I am hoping for the best (again) but the current situation has to end one or of the other.

I don’t think this is a make or break year, but the trajectory has to point upward. Wilcox knows that. I was impressed that he canned the OC and O-line coach in the middle of the season last year.

Madsen really does not seem like a stuck-in-a-loop kind of person. He’s let’s-break-out-of-the-loop, and what’s more, we’re going to do it RIGHT NOW!!! No 5 year plan. Perfect person for the new portal. 21 wins is possible!

I will argue that Wilcox and Spavital have also done a good job using the portal to revamp the offense as well as deepen the defense. Looking forward to seeing seeing the results this fall!!!

Wow...Madsen hasn't coached a single game at Cal yet and already the DOOOOOMMM is out and about.

You didn't have to. The attitude is strikingly apparent.

It also dovetails with your comments about Wilcox and Knowlton.

Who else has had a similar Pac-12 record over six years?

Your points about compensation suggests that you think college football is a drain on the mission of higher education. Do you feel that way? Do you also feel that compensation should reflect what the market will bear?

I’m certainly not satisfied with just winning the Big Game.

Wilcox is a proud, competitive person. I’m sure he has all the internal pressure he needs to motivate him. Obviously this is just a guess, but one can assume that one of the reasons he didn’t take the Oregon job is that he wants to show that he can make the Cal program a success, rather than just jumping on the Oregon bandwagon. The only missing dimension for Cal is offense, and I’m pretty confident that is being solved. I just wish the schedule was a wee bit easier. But who knows, Cal have an excellent chance of ripping through the non-conference at 3-0. Pick up 3 of 9 in the conference, go bowling, and it can all be up from there. Can’t wait till kickoff!!!

Wilcox is under more pressure than you think. A change in chancellor (which we know will happen next June), brings a change in AD, brings a change in head coaches. And it may not even take a change in chancellor to make a change in the AD. See the investigation into the McKay tenure and firing.

Regardless, it's all irrelevant if the results are as mediocre as you think it will be and there's a will to move on.

Knowlton is also under investigation for his role in Teri McKeever's tenure. He could be fired for cause. That's not to say he will be, just saying he's not guaranteed anything at this point.

How do you know that Knowlton will be around in 12 months much less 7 years from now?
