Dort looks almost checked out? Maybe hurt. He looks slower at basically all aspects of the game. Bell clearly doesn't wanna go home yet.

Madsen said Dort was a step slow tonight, that's why Ilic played starter minutes. Madsen said Dort will bounce back

Started with the Wake game.

He looks a step slower than earlier this season. Did he block any shots last night?

Slow start could have killed us again. Cal needs a lot more energy from the tip off for the next game. Take advantage of that home field advantage. At least we didn’t end the season with another loss.

Exactly! Thankfully, they turned it around in the 2nd half. Good movement and excellent shooting. Camden needs to finish better at the rim, and Bell still needs to improve on defense. I like the energy and shooting from Campbell.

It was one of the Bears’ better second halves. D could be better though.

Pippen could not stay in front of Washington or Crawford, right? But the threes from Bell & Camden; well we are going to miss those next year!

Speaking of Crawford…he plays like Kidd back in college a little. Smart player, good court vision, and not a great shooter from outside.

Finally a starter showed up to play, it’s been st least 5 games.

The first half was a little concerning with Chicago hitting 3s and scoring inside, plus our guards getting in foul trouble, but I wasn’t concerned as we were scoring well too

Their early second half burst was extinguished with our run and even though they got within striking distance a few times it always felt Cal could handle them

Bell was scorching the nets and then Justin and Dai Dai did their thing.

This is the first game in a long while where our bench played well…. Milos with perhaps his best game, Campbell with 3 and D, and Carr with 7 assists, many of which were wow

BJ Fisher had an open 3 but drove. I thought he’d pull up from 8 feet because he had a lot of space, but he challenged the big at the rim with a great finish off the contact for a personal highlight for the walkon

They match up well with mid-majors.

It’s the P4 rosters they struggle with, especially Ilic.

Why were there so few students at the game? Midterms?

AK: I had the same thought. From a public relations/recruiting standpoint, empty stands are not a good look. However, I remember when Steve Fisher (the former SDSU coach who really brought the program to national prominence) was first hired, turnout at games was so bad that he and his staff used to walk around campus passing out free tickets but look at where the program is now. Our climb out of the deep hole that was the Wyking Jones/Mark Fox era continues, but we are moving in the right direction. Basketball gods, pray for us.

Spring Break is next week. So, maybe a lot of them got a head start with this hot weather.

Apparently, quite a few opening round NIT games had "poor" attendance".

AKBear's avatar

I think this is normal but it would be nice to buck the trend.

They should have been selected to the NCAA tournament instead of SMU. SMU lost badly in their first round playin game. They sucked in that game.

In fact, the committee is now accusing Enfield/SMU of misleading them into believing their best player would be available for the tourney (see link I provided below).
