Small improvements over the Wyking era aside, unfortunately it doesn't appear that the site of the NCAAs will have any impact on Cal mens basketball for several years to come.
It's unlikely to matter for 2021, but things can turn around quite quickly in basketball IF you can get the recruits (or find the gems via grad transfers, which is probably a more likely path for Mark Fox and the Bears). Besides, it's *not that hard* to make the 68 team field, so I'm not going to write 2022 off just yet.
That's true, I just don't think Fox has shown an ability to recruit particularly well or elevate a program above the middle of the pact. Maybe we squeak in his fourth year or fifth year and get bumped in the first-round--likely enough to get him an extension so to repeat the cycle all over again. I know I sound cynical, but I'm not seeing the makings of something that will have anything more than very infrequent success.
Agreed. 5 good players plus adequate subs can make a successful team. Much easier to turn things around in BB than football because of FB requiring a much larger roster size and need for even greater depth.
I absolutely love this idea, can't wait to watch the tournament I personally think it is the best postseason in sports.
